We had an excellent time on Crane Lake in Gary's cabin. He was extremely easy to deal with and the property was everything he described and more.
Crane Lake Fun
Another solid year of fun had by our group. Consistent weather and great accommodations as usual.
Its always great to here from my guests. I would like to thank Pete and his high school friends who have been getting together for spring fishing for years.
They have rented the Spruce cabin the last several years. Looking forward to have you back next spring to create new memories and keep old friends close.. Thanks Pete and friends!
Amazing cabin on an amazing lake
Our extended family stayed here for the better part of a week in late August and it was nothing short of fantastic. The lake offers plenty to do (boating, camping, exploring, hiking) and Gary is a warm, welcoming, and generous host. The cabin itself is comfortable, well stocked, and beautiful. We look forward to coming back again next summer!
Peaceful retreat on the lake
Enjoyed ten days in this peaceful log home on Crane lake. The house has all the amenities you like, and you might be surprised at what things you find in the kitchen—we made smoothies, a Sunday roast in a crockpot, etc.
You need a boat to access this property. We rented one from Pine Point Lodge and we’re very happy with their service.
One thing to keep in mind: The house is listed as having three bathrooms, however, one „bathroom“ only has a toilet and a sink, no shower. If you have teenagers or kids in the loft or on the sofabed in the game room, they need to shower in one of the en-suites.
Remember to get groceries on your way to Crane Lake, for example in Orr, because the Marinas only sell the bare necessities.
Thanks Gary for a wonderful time and for sharing this special place.
We had 2 families (10 total). It was great. The cabin was beautiful. Enjoyed the provided kayak and canoe. Kitchen was well appointed and had lots of spices, sugar. flour. You need a boat to access. We got one from Handsberg marina. They were great also—pontoon was new! The cabin is only about a 5 minute boat ride from marina. We’d go there each night for ice cream! The kids and dad’s loved the pool table. One note: our kids are all 13 and above, boys, and shortest one is 5’9”. Most are 6’ and over. This made it a little difficult with the bedding. They count 2 people in the full-size bottom bunk bed, and 2 in the sleeper sofa. Our boys didn’t really fit. Luckily we brought a couple air mattresses.
Beautiful property sitting on a beautiful location
Amazing property with all the amenities you’d expect if you were at home. Fully stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, pool table, outdoor gas grill and a great entertainment setup, overall great experience!
Gateway to the Voyageurs National Park, within minutes of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, and Canada's Quentico Wilderness Area gives this special new log cabin a super location. Park starts at the north end of the lake. Motor boat and fish all day on different lakes Fishing is very good with many types of fish species. Lake trout, walleye, northern, bass, crappie, perch and more, with more lakes to explore out number the type of fish. Canoe from cabin to enter the BWCA with a few hours. Crane Lake offers great fishing and swimming. Swim and fish of the dock or take a 5 minute boat ride to the north end of the lake in the Park and float your boat in to a sandy shallow beach, put the beach chairs and cooler in the lake and enjoy! Must sees are the Vermillion River waterfall dumping into Crane Lake, park service has a dock at the bottom of falls to park and take the trail to the top, quite a sight. Sandpoint Lake features pictographs from our early inhabitants of this area. Go hike the surrounding granite cliffs from the log cabin and enjoy the fantastic views, birding, mushrooming, beach combing, blueberry picking for the pancakes on the griddle is usually very good out you back door from mid June to mid July. The water is super clean and great for water skiing, tubing, and swimming. Sit back on the deck and enjoy the sunsets and moon rising. Enjoy the numerous wildlife with loons coming and going, bald eagles perch form the tops of the tall white pines looking for their fish diner, spruce grouse commonly cross your trail. You are on the edge of the great wilderness of the Minnesota Canada border and the preserved wilderness parks from each, yet after all the exploring come back to the log home for all the comforts you could want on an upscale luxury vacation.
