About Susan Phillips

I am a native New Orleanian and a school teacher. My husband has lived in New Orleans for 14 years and is a real estate professional.

Susan Phillips purchased this apartment in 2010

Why Susan Phillips chose Central City/Garden District

We bought this property when it was blighted and abandoned. We meticulously restored it into our family home with all the modern amenities that we are use to, but also made sure to keep its historic and architectural integrity intact. We love our neighborhood because of its walk ability and all the historic homes surrounding us.

What makes this apartment unique

This one bedroom apartment is located two blocks from the bustling Magazine Street corridor in a peaceful tree lined section of Uptown. Convenient to everything New Orleans has to offer. Short walk to grocery store, pharmacy, bars, restaurants, shopping. Magazine street has a bus line and the historic New Orleans streetcar is 6 blocks away. Lushly landscaped backyard with courtyard is a perfect place to start your day with a cup a coffee or unwind with a glass of wine.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Bunnoi and her friends were ideal guests. They left the apartment in perfect condition and I hardly knew they were there. I would be happy to host her again anytime.

VERY clean unit in beautiful, walkable neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

This is a spotlessly clean, convenient, charming place to stay on a quiet street in the Garden District. It's a very pretty walk past gorgeous old homes and huge trees to get to Magazine Street (2 blocks), and St. Charles to the streetcar (about 6 or 7 blocks.) We felt safe walking together even at night. Within very easy walking distance, we found a grocery, a gaggle of cute shops, and many restaurants with patio seating. We lucked into a fantastic breakfast spot (Slim Goodies Diner - so fun, terrific service even when busy, and you will NOT be disappointed with the food.) We slept well, as the bed and sofa bed were comfortable and we heard zero street noise. The owners were lovely-- helpful and available if we wanted them, but they definitely gave us our space to just enjoy our family vacation. The unit is in the back of the owners' home and has a private entrance. It has divinely high ceilings, washer/dryer, tall windows, a lovely courtyard. Plenty of floor space for our 2 adults and 2 children to feel at ease. I recommend this apartment and it's owners, and I encourage my friends to stay in a home, rather than a hotel, to experience the feeling of living in a classic, beautiful NOLA neighborhood.

Beautifully Renovated Apartment

  • 5 of 5

We had such an enjoyable time staying at Jason and Susan's back house apartment! The apartment was meticulous - looked just like the pictures. And the sheets smelled heavenly!! I loved that the apartment was stocked with Cafe Du Monde coffee. I enjoyed taking my morning cup out to the back courtyard and planning our day. We felt very safe walking up to Magazine Street for dinner and cocktails one night. On street parking right out front was a bonus. We would not hesitate to recommend this vacation rental to all of our friends and family. Our only regret is that our stay was so short and the time went by so fast. Thank you Susan and Jason for the hospitality!!

Wonderful accommodations, great hosts.

  • 5 of 5

We were in New Orleans to move out son in for his first year at Tulane University. The apartment was well appointed - clean, modern and comfortable. It was exactly as depicted in the photographs. The location is perfect, just off of Magazine Street and walkable to stores and restaurants. We had a wonderful dinner at the restaurant at the end of the street - a top rated spot in New Orleans. We had our car (on street parking was available right out front), so we didn't need to take public transportation; however, the blocks are not long in New Orleans so I'm sure the walk to the St Charles trolley wouldn't have been bad. Susan was beyond helpful and accommodating to us and was always available and accessible for questions and help when we needed it. We will plan on staying here in the future when we come to visit our son at Tulane.

Beautiful apartment

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 3 loved staying here. The apartment was beautiful and very well equipped. We were happy with the location. Our only regret is that we did not have more time there! I would recommend this place to any of my friends headed to New Orleans.

Great place in a great location

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was in great shape and very clean. Being located on Laurel street it was only a block and a half from Magazine street. We spent a good deal of time in the French Quarter that was less than a 10 minute drive away. It was very quiet, and parking wasn't much of an issue at any time of day. Definitely worth your while to check this place out. Susan and Jason were very responsive to any questions I had and they followed up with me to make sure I had all I needed as well. When I come back, I will be staying here again.
