This beautiful, completely renovated house is right on a sand beach on east Grand Traverse Bay. The house is good size (2,400 sf) with four bedrooms and three full baths. This is a quiet family location but close to many activities in the area.
The second floor master bedroom is huge and has a king size bed, private brand new gorgeous tiled bath with granite vanity, shower for two, walk in closet, and large windows with a perfect view of sunsets over the bay. On summer nights with the windows open you can hear the waves lapping at the shore. Truly a waterfront feeling.
There are three other bedrooms on the second floor. Two have breathtaking bay views with queen beds. Fourth bedroom has a serene forest view with two twin beds. Across the hall from these bedrooms there is a shared bath, tile and granite, with a tub/shower. A third bathroom with shower is downstairs, also brand new tile and fixtures.
There is a boardwalk with two short sets of stairs leading down to the private beach. The beach is sandy and you can walk for miles or build a sand castle with the kids. There are some smooth fist-sized rocks in the water but there is also a lot of sand and it is a great swimming beach. The tip of Mission Peninsula is straight out from the beach and provides a beautiful backdrop for sunsets. A public access and launch point is several hundred yards away and is used to launch small boats and jet skis. There is a grassy area by the road that could be used to park a trailer.
The first floor has a kitchen, laundry room, a dining and living area combined with a beautiful fireplace made of local rock. Two large sliding doors provide beautiful views and a pleasant bay breeze. In the back a bath with shower for guests. Off the Family room is a screen porch for relaxing and a place to get-away from the group for awhile.
The cottage is about a mile from US-31 with all paved access roads. This makes easy access to towns, fruit and vegetable stands, golf courses, and harbors up and down the east shore of Grand Traverse Bay.

Dot and I are from Michigan, live in the Denver area, and hope to spend a lot of our retirement time at this cottage in a few years. Until then we will be sharing the cottage with others!
Steve Funk purchased this house in 2011
We love the Grand Traverse Bay and found that the Elk Rapids area just felt right to us. This is a quiet, serene location with little boat traffic. The scenic beauty is unsurpassed. There are lots of things to do in a 30 mile radius. More than you could do in a week. And of course everyone is friendly because you are 'up north'.
This is the perfect location for taking long walks on the beach, grilling on the deck while watching the sunset, swimming, boating, or just relaxing with a good book. Restaurants and shops are as close as Elk Rapids 10 minutes away. Even more activities are available within a half hour in Traverse City, the main city in the area. The harbor town of Charlevoix is a half hour north and is where Ernest Hemingway spent his boyhood summers trout fishing. There are many world class golf courses within an hours drive with several hundred holes within a 20 minute drive. Beautiful Mackinaw island is only an hour away.
The famous Traverse City National Cherry Festival is July 2-9, 2016 and the Elk Rapids Harbor Days is August 3-6, 2016. These are two of the more popular festivals in the area and demand a slightly higher rent for these weeks.
Elk Rapids is a fun town that is just big enough. There is a large marina right in town where you can hire a boat to take you salmon fishing on the bay or rent a jet ski or boat yourself. There are several nice restaurants, deli, grocery store, pharmacy, grocery, sports bar, and a popular coffee shop.
This was our first real vacation week at our new cottage! We had wonderful weather and loved walking the beach, swimming, and watching the beautiful sunsets. We picked perfectly ripe cherries at the U-pick orchard a few miles away. Very restful week.
Wonderful house. It has been totally remodeled. Spectacular beach! Very clean. Lots of room for family and/or friends. We had a wonderful time!
We rented this home for a family vacation for ourselves and grown children. It was perfect. All amenities were top notch. Located right on the water and close to Elk Rapids. This home could not have suited our needs better. Highly recommended!
We have been vacationing in the Lake Michigan area yearly for the past 25 years. We have chosen a different rental each time and we think we have finally found the near-perfect vacation home. The house is modern, clean, spacious, well equipped and with a fine sandy beach. It's sufficiently secluded yet only half an hour from Traverse City. Steve Funk, the owner was pleasant and helpful. I would strongly recommend this home.
Very clean property ideally situated on Grand Traverse Bay on a quiet road with upscale homes. Faces west to give you views of fantastic sunsets.
My husband and I absolutely love this home! Yes, there is plenty of room for the kids and grandkids, but we wanted some time to ourselves. This home is lovely and the view of Grand Traverse Bay is stunning. This home is newly redecorated; the kitchen is spacious with all the amenities plus. Great living room, the bathrooms are spacious and gorgeous (check out the master shower - awesome!), screened in porch, huge wrap around deck overlooking the bay. It was perfect from the cleanliness, design, location, everything was great! Elk Rapids is a quick five minute drive. The beach is beautiful; sandy bottom in front of the home - shallow enough that our toddler grandchildren will enjoy it when we return. And, we will return! Dot and Steve answered all our questions, the home was immaculate when we arrived - this place is perfection!
This place was a dream. The only downside AT ALL was that the cleaning crew delayed our check in by 3 hours! Otherwise, awesome location, well stocked, clean, quiet, great beach/fire pit. Plenty of room for our family of 9.
We will be back.
Our cottage is quiet and secluded but close to many activities and sightseeing. The west facing property has a great deck and screened porch from which to enjoy the lake view. A-Ga-Ming championship golf course is less than five miles away. Shanty Creek golf 25 minutes. Shops and restaurants in the harbor town of Elk Rapids is only ten minutes away. Traverse City and Charlevoix are both less than 30 minutes drive. Just one hours drive to beautiful Mackinac Island
Sandy walking beach stretches for miles, fire pit on the beach for evening fires, crystal clear water for swimming or water sport. The sandy lake bottom, shallow, gently sloping waterfront is great for small children and yet still usable for small boats and jet skis (shallow launch several hundred yards away), The water is shallow for a long way out so large boats would need to anchor 100 yards + from shore, Elk Rapids marina is about 7 miles away.
This area is known for cherry orchards as well as apples, peaches and vineyards. In season there are several large fruit stands where you can get fresh fruit, vegetables, and baked goods.
