Marvelous Tuscan holiday!
This villa was PERFECT! We were a party of 4, 2 couples traveling together for the first time. This villa had two separate large bedrooms, each with on suite bathrooms. In the middle, a roomy common area had a full kitchen & living room (with a sleeper sofa & TV). The apartment was clean & well maintained. The beamed roof, shuttered windows, & thick walls added to the ambiance we wanted & the privacy we experienced. This was home base.
From here, we were able to plan day trips to the beauty that Tuscany promises. Nearby Radda in Chianti is quaint- ancient architecture, shopping, restaurants, gelato, espresso. etc. We experienced Florence, Sienna, the walled cities of Montereggio & San Gimignano, & also Pisa & Lucca.
By staying in this villa, we enjoyed the beauty of the Tuscan countryside- the mountains, lush valleys, tall cedars, vineyards, & olive groves as well as city access to museums & galleries & history. We'll be back!
Magic in Chianti, why not ?
We have a bucket list, things to get done before you can't do them any more, and one was to travel to Tuscany with close friends from Denver, and we did. Here is the quick report. We picked up our friends at the airport and used GPS to get us to Radda, for some supplies, and then to Galenda for our home base to move into our shared 2 BR 2bath Villa. Wow, we were instantly rolled back in time, to 16th century working outpost of olive and grape fields. The complex was magnificently restored. It was like a little village with doors, shutters, clothes lines, and fun country type garden setting. The stone walls, the stone walkways, the arch and passage ways were just great, a time machine.
We found our unit, exactly as published yet better. First, it was super big,and easy to handle 4 adults who have never traveled together before. Ha! We had common living area, which we used far more than I anticipated for light cooking ( yes gas stove worked great, and more cooking stuff than in my kitchen ) for games, for socializing, surfing some internet for history on the region ( great WiFi for my work requirement s) , reading and hanging out. We had a balcony off the great room that let in wonderful morning air, sun and morning music from the birds. TV and related gear, there, never turne on! Beds were clean, comfortable, and ready for weary travels. Everyone always slept well sometimes too well! We had plenty of towels, napkins, and hot water never an issue. We liked the tile floors, the high old log/beamed ceilings, and all the ways the 16th century building worked its magic, not too hot, not too cold. One of our travel friends was an engineer, and he was amazed, checking the size and thickness of the walls, the doorways, the art cut outs, the stonework and arches. The beauty, simplicity, yet all creature comforts quickly brought a basic joy to our time at Galenda. Hard to describe the beauty, yet that is a huge part of the stay in this Villa Apt. Everywhere you look, inside and outside, aesthetics are ever present: shutters, doors, rooflines, arches, walkways, gardens, lighting, to birds, deer, cultivated fields, all before you get to the charming little towns or grand cities. We did take a pass on the scooters, holding that back for our next visit.
Everything worked as anticipated, as planned no issues. Clean, inside and out. Fresh countryside air, sounds, smells, energy. Space, huge amounts inside and out. Treat yourself
Great family rendezvous in Tuscany
We had a great extended family vacation based out of your 2 apartments/Villas we rented concurrently. Having two units provided plenty of spacious room for both privacy when desired and fun group settings. There were books left behind from prior travelers outlining fun things to do in the area, and a working/open journal of experiences by prior guests. And we left a few of our own for the next guest. We really enjoyed that the Villas were set in a compound of a former working countryside manor, equipped with many converted building spaces into interesting living areas, a courtyard with tools from years gone by: huge stone olive press, carts, and even a small chapel. There were structures on the compound that were yet to be restored, and you could see the effect of time on the stone work centuries old. Those outside fixtures set in motion some great imagination of what things must have been like in the 1600’s. The apartment facilities were impeccable and exceeded our expectations, from maid service to the early morning sounds of birds starting the day.
This was a different type of vacation than we usually take. It was relaxed, peaceful and reflective in large part because we based it from your Villas in Tuscany. Things were calm and even paced, as we were bathed in the beauty of the working countryside.
We really enjoyed the mix of old and new, old structure with 3 feet thick walls, wooden shuttered windows, and halogen lightening, modern plumbing and fixtures and appliances on the inside, neat and clean. It was fun turning back the clock and staying in such an historic setting. It was great to be in the countryside with all the modern amenities, and great little towns nearby.
We did wonderful excursions out to landmark places in Tuscany, like the walled and tower cities of fame, enjoying the driving as much as the arrival. Others also like the unique country space for walks and private reading and reflection. The cafes and coffee were wonderful and even excursions to grocery store were an adventure. We are telling our friends, and looking for the chance to repeat. We had a truly memorable time and hope to be back soon!
Quaint, cozy, quiet & charming!
We had a wonderful stay at Casa Galenda!!! The two bedroom apartment has everything you need, comfortable beds, roomy bathrooms & full kitchen, which we used every day, breakfast & dinner, as during this time of year most restauarants except for one in nearby Radda were closed! There was a COOP market in Radda that had all the ham, fresh bread, pasta and Chianti we needed! My Mother and I relaxed a great deal, enjoyed our drives to Greve, Panzano, San Gimignano, & Siena very much! Got lost a few times, but in a good way! The fall colors in the Chianti region were spectacular! All the vineyards and Cypress covered hill tops with old farm houses were covered in rows of bright yellow, auburn, gold & rust! Stunning! We ate our way through Tuscany!!! And would have loved to take a cooking class, but the people recommended to teach them were both on their own Holiday! ( probably learning to make BBQ in Texas! ) We named the resident cat "Diana" after the Huntress and I'm quite embarrassed, but my Mother wanted me to use the elevator/dumb waiter to move the luggage while checking out and I unfortunately listened to her,... Not knowing how to get it to work, my common sense had "left the building" and I hit the red button!!... Sounding the alarm and waking up the entire Chianti region! 😬👀. I called Annie, and after a chuckle she said she would call the elevator place and take care of it! We made a hasty escape! I think we were alone in Galenda, there was one really nice young woman named Lucy, that I was worried about waking... Then our first day in Florence we are standing on the street & Lucy walks by and recognizes us!!! Kisses & she didn't hear the alarm! 😆 Small world!!!
We have stayed in vacation rentals all over Europe, and Stanley was indeed one of the kindest, most informative, patient and accommodating owners we have ever booked with.. He not only walked us through the booking, but helped with information on car rental, train tickets,.. Literally trying to book it for us,.. And nearby sites, very helpful advise! Highly recommended! Thanks again Stan!
