Delight in an authentic Nantucket experience in the former home of mariner James Gardner’s historic 1754 home at 24 Union Street just steps from Main Street and the heart of Nantucket Town. This 3 bedroom, three bath home combines historic features with modern conveniences. Original wide board floors on both the first and second floors invite imaginings of those who trod upon them decades before.
This property is tastefully appointed and particularly suited to extended families or two parties that love to be together but value their own space. The first floor has two bedrooms and two baths, a kitchen with dining space, and a living room. The second floor has one bedroom, one bath, a kitchen with dining space, and a great room. This spacious vaulted ceiling room with its large picture windows overlooking lovely gardens is perfect for larger dinner gatherings and entertaining.
While there is a queen bed in each of the three bedrooms, we also have a Frontgate Essential EZ Bed Inflatable Queen Guest Bed and a single inflatable mattress are available upon request.
PLEASE NOTE: The first floor only (2 bedrooms, 2 full baths, kitchen, and living room) may be available upon request for lower rate.
The patio/garden is quiet and secluded from the street.
Cable TV and high-speed wireless internet are included.
While arrangements for a vehicle parking permit on Union Street can be made through the Nantucket Police Department for $10. a day, most of our guests find no need for a car given this home’s proximity to markets, shopping, dining, and entertainment, as well as the Nantucket's bus service. The hub of Nantucket's 'Wave' bus routes (www.nrtawave.com) is a 3 minute walk and allows you to connect to locations across the island.

Lovers of nature and the arts and generosity of thought and spirit, we are excited to have you share in the beauty of this island! We value living in a space which holds the charm and elegance of a bygone era, strolling the cobblestoned main street, and enjoying the range of cultural and aesthetic offerings by the island's creative community.
Robert and Barbara Maier purchased this house in 2014
While we enjoy our south shore home at 115 Somerset Road (HomeAway #231940), we LOVE the experience of the 'In Town' feel and fun of one of the most unique places in America.
It is said to be the oldest house originally built on Union Street! Filled with character and history... and the convenience of a 'No Car Necessary' location!
While the James Gardner House allows for the Nantucket town experience you can explore the rest of the island using 'The Wave', Nantucket's transportation system, which connects you to locations all over the island. So even without a car, you can explore the more remote areas of the island where you can walk nature trails and see first hand the natural beauty of this special place. Cited by National Geographic as one of the 10 most beautiful islands on earth, you have the opportunity to find out why.
