Beautiful canal-view apartments, 18th-century building, 24h-local assistance
Best place to stay in Amsterdam, if you want to feel like a local.
Hello, We are Cido and Rob, the owners of two beautifully furnished apartments with heart-stirring view over the historic Prinsengracht, one of the most lively canals in the heart of Amsterdam. Since 2011, we have been welcoming guests from all over the world. They all fall in love with the place and the amazing city of Amsterdam. Many of them return; there is so much to discover here. We live in the same building and we provide 24-hours assistance to make you feel like home. We love sharing insider addresses and some of Amsterdam’s best hidden gems. So be prepared to have the quintessential experience of living like a local. We promise you will never forget your stay in Amsterdam!
We are in the heart of Amsterdam, in the residential and smart shopping area called Jordaan. Jordaan is the most popular and historic part of Amsterdam, with small cafes, bars, restaurants, boutiques, organic food and antique markets. The apartments have a spectacular view to the 17th-century Noorderkerk (North church) and many houseboats. Sunsets are breathtaking.
Everything is within walking distance:
Central Station -10min
Anne Frank’s House and Westerkerk (West church), where Rembrandt was buried - 5 min
Dam square, the 17th-century Royal Palace and Madame Tussauds, the world famous wax works museum - 8 min
Shopping: 9 straatjes/Nine Streets - the chic indie boutique district, Haarlemmerstraat, the Bijenkorf, Kalverstraat- the main shopping area in Amsterdam - 5-10 min
Museums Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh museum, Hermitage, Stadelijk - 20-30 min
Grocery stores Albert Heijn, Jumbo - 2min, Markt organic grocery - 5min
Across the street, on the other side of the canal:
Noordermarkt - antique and organic food market
Winkel 73, best apple pie in Amsterdam
Café ‘Papeneiland’, one of the oldest café’s in Amsterdam. Don’t forget to ask the barman to show you the entrance to the secret tunnel than was dug in the 17th century.
Parks: Westerpark 10min and Vondelpark - 20min
We have two 1 bedroom (2 rooms) apartments in an historical building ( built 1707). The flats are on the second and third floors. The rooms are handsomely decorated with antique and vintage furniture, with some modern and industrial touches. The living room is very bright, with two big windows overlooking the canal. Imagine sitting by the windows on a sunny afternoon, with a glass of wine, watching the passing parade of people, boats and bike (hardly any cars!). The street is not so crowded and noisy, as central Amsterdam might be, but with plenty of life.
The bedroom has a comfortable double bed and a big closet. It is quiet and spacious, just perfect to enjoy a good night’s sleep.
The apartment comes with a fully equipped open concept kitchen: fridge, oven, dishwasher, coffee and tea maker, dining wares,
We offer complimentary high speed Wi-Fi, coffee, tea, and welcoming wine.
The laundry room is located in the common area, on the main floor of the building. There is a washer and a dryer, both coin operated. The cost is E1.50 for each washer and dryer.
We are happy to arrange bicycle rental or any other tourist attractions, as you wish.
Rob can take you on a private canal cruise with our own boat. This is a must do, if you really want to experience Amsterdam’s rich history and to hear little-known stories of Amsterdam. The view is amazing especially in the evenings, when most bridges and canal houses are illuminated. Old and new side by side, you will find impossible to resist Amsterdam’s charm. The Red light district, one of the oldest and most beautiful parts of the city with its long winding narrow, cobbled streets and utterly charming 14th century architecture, the medieval canal houses witness to the Golden Age, the modern Eye Film Institute that exude playful Dutch design, to name just a few of what Amsterdam has to offer, you are about to embark on an amazing journey!

We are a couple loves traveling and always trying to rent an apartments during our trips just to feel as we are living in that country. First thing we do is trying to find a local markets ,do shopping and cooking at our new home.So when we have the second apartment in the same building we decided to give this opportunity to our guests in the best part of Amsterdam. So our guests are being also our neighbors. It became a hobby for us while I am working as a dentist and my husband works as an engineer.
C.Atay Hermsen purchased this apartment in 2011
We live also in the same building so we decided that 2 apartment is too much for us and began to rent it to our guests since 2010
This is the most popular area called Jordaan with many small cafes and restaurants.During the day it is always alive with street musicians, boats or somedays with local markets .At nights it is so peaceful and safe and you hardly hear trafic although the apartment is located centrum centrum. It is 2 minutes walking distance to Anna frank's house and 20 minutes to the museums. There are many uniek shops around and 2 parks .Train station is 10 minutes walking distance. So you dont need any public transport. The view from the apartment is delightful with boat houses and the view of Norden church. All the day you can watch passing of boats on the prinsencanal. My favourite ritual is going to saturday market just across the house to buy weekly fresh flowers and fish to cook for weekend. We are sure you will also enjoy beeing here as we are enjoying since 12 years.
This July 2014 was actually the second time we enjoyed staying at Princengracht with Cido and Rob. First we came on a business/pleasure combination-trip in November 2013, and even if we had carefully selected the accommodation and read all the reviews we came across, little did we know what awaited us! It was easy enough to figure out that the location is perfect for those who wish to stay mainstream but still to enjoy the more relaxed and quieter part of this beautiful city. But renting an apartment in an unfamiliar place from people you do not know is some sort of a lottery - always. Well this time we won - big time! Where to begin?! Location is approx 15 minute walk from Central Railway station, where it is easy to arrive by train directly from the Schiphol airport. It only takes about 20 minutes. Check it out on http://goamsterdam.about.com/od/gettingaroundamsterdam/tp/amsterdamairporttransportation.htm The apartment offers great view of the Princengracht canal trough the grand windows - easy to relax with your favorite glass of wine, a cup of tea or coffee and feel like at home. You have all the utilities at hand in the cabinets if you like to enhance your experience as a local by cooking... but, in case you don't there are plenty of restaurants, small cafes and bars all around and your host is the best source of where to go. The apartment is clean - squeaky-clean as a matter of fact. There is a very comfortable double bed in the bedroom. Yes, you do have to climb some flight of stairs to get to the upper apartments, but that can hardly come as a surprise - you are in a rather typical Amsterdam canal house! The area, Jordaan, is the perfect place to stay in Amsterdam, certainly worth the extra Euros you might have to pay for staying in this part of the city. As to be expected you are surrounded by museums, churches, grand buildings, and shops on every street. All easily accessible by bus or tram, but as a matter of fact, if you enjoy walking, the best way to explore Amsterdam is by foot. You can do shopping on the popular (and populated!) Kalverstraat, Damrak and Leidsestraat, but if you like to do somewhat different shopping, take a leisurely stroll on the Haarlemmerstraat and enjoy the day! Now, that was all on the location and the city. What about the greatest hosts of all?! They are helpful, cheerful, considerate, friendly, enthusiastic, great source of local info and extremely good to be around. Cido and Rob are exceptional hosts. Please - if you
After studying the Amsterdam area a bit, we decided to look for an apartment in the Jordaan area. Home Sweet Home was the first one that interested me, and all of the rest that followed never measured up. We decided to book and it was the best decision we made! Cido and Rob have done a great job at offering and apartment that felt, to us, like home away from home. So close to the Central Train station, we walked (given very clear instructions) to the apartment in about 15 minutes. We were offered the luggage storage area, but the apartment was ready for us when we arrived around 8am. The apartment itself is well appointed with all of the amenities that one would need, including internet, coffee maker, kettle as well as an assortment of teas, cooking utensils and such. Open air market across the canal could be seen from the big front window. Natural light spilled into the living area. Fresh flowers were a nice cheery touch, and a nice bottle of wine! All that we could want and need was all a short walking distance away. Anne Frank house is just a few blocks up the street, and on the way on the other side of the canal, a lovely cafe with a canal view to enjoy. Hop on/off ferry service also by Anne Frank House to connect you to other main attractions in the city core. Lovely restaurants also short walking distance away, but reservations may be needed. In the 48 short hours we were in Amsterdam, we grew to love it instantly, and this apartment was one of the main reasons for it! For our next trip, we hope to have our Home Sweet Home in Amsterdam, giving us time to explore more of the culture of Amsterdam and other nearby neighbourhoods. Thank you Cido and Rob for providing such comfortable accommodations that we truly felt as though we were living like a local.
Our initial inquiries about the apartment were responded to quickly by Cido. She provided us answers to all of our questions. We ended up booking the apartment for 3 weeks and were very happy we did. There is a washer and dryer available in the building so that was definitely a plus for us. When we arrived, she gave us a quick overview on how everything worked in the apartment, and told us she was always available if we had any other questions. She supplied the refrig with a welcome bottle of Prosecco and had fresh flowers in the apt.The apartment itself was fully equipped and Cido provided new towels for us every week. The living room overlooked the river and the windows let in plenty of light during the day. We asked about local places to eat and she gave us some great recommendations. The apartment is very well located in a quiet neighborhood with grocery stores nearby and a short walk to Amsterdam central station. At the end we had her print our boarding passes and she arranged to drive us to the airport for less than what a cab would charge.
We would definitely recommend this apartment to others.
All the email communication prior to our trip was wonderful and extremely responsive. Cido and Rob provided us with plenty of details and map to get to their rental. I also appreciated being able to store our luggage and use a lockbox to access the key to place. The apartment is super cozy and feels warm and welcoming. Lots of beautiful homey touches, but not overly done to make me worry that my young children we going to break something. The big windows onto the canal are awesome and let in a ton of natural light. The location is ideal, just a few blocks to visit Anne Frank's house and an amazing open market across the street. We walked everywhere and after a week of exploring Amsterdam felt like this location was the best. We would definitely recommend this apartment and hope to come back again soon!
Such a beautiful apartment in a fantastic location! Walking distance to just about everything and the best apple pie in Amsterdam right across the street! Communication with the owner was excellent and we received a warm welcome upon arrival (plus a bottle of wine!). Be aware of the three steep flights of stairs leading to the apartment. Quite a challenge to carry heavy luggage up! We will definitely go back!
Prior to our visit all communication was excellent. We were given a key code so could enter whenever was convenient for us, useful after a flight as it is hard to be precise about arrival time. It is within walking distance of central station (15 mins) although pulling bags over the cobbled streets was hard work! We decided on a taxi on the way back!
The apartment is in a fantastic location. It overlooks one of the main canals and is opposite a weekend market. It was a pleasure to sit at the window with a coffee and watch the world go by. We walked everywhere and covered all of Amsterdam from the apartment. It was great not to have to take trams and buses. The location felt very safe even at night time.
It was well equipped with everything needed. We only had breakfast here but it would be possible to cook dinner if required. The bottle of wine was a lovely welcoming touch.
The main bed was comfortable and reports from two teenage daughters was that the sofa bed was enough for a good sleep. The apartment was very warm which was great as it was cold and frosty outside.
The only thing to be aware of is the steep steps up to level 3. It would not be suitable for anyone who has problems with mobility. I have ticked age 55+ below (this is actually myself and hubby!) but we are fit and do a lot of walking and hubby was happy to carry the bags up all the stairs. So not really suitable for anyone unable to do this.
Other than this I would strongly recommend to anyone wanting to spend some time in Amsterdam in a perfect location.
Many thanks for the extended checkout. We had a late flight back to Australia and, as no one was coming into the apartment the next day, we were able to come back to the apartment at 4pm for a shower and prepare for the journey. This was great as the weather was cold and it made a big difference to our comfort.
