Grachtengordel Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

Beautiful canal-view apartments, 18th-century building, 24h-local assistance

Best place to stay in Amsterdam, if you want to feel like a local.

Hello, We are Cido and Rob, the owners of two beautifully furnished apartments with heart-stirring view over the historic Prinsengracht, one of the most lively canals in the heart of Amsterdam. Since 2011, we have been welcoming guests from all over the world. They all fall in love with the place and the amazing city of Amsterdam. Many of them return; there is so much to discover here. We live in the same building and we provide 24-hours assistance to make you feel like home. We love sharing insider addresses and some of Amsterdam’s best hidden gems. So be prepared to have the quintessential experience of living like a local. We promise you will never forget your stay in Amsterdam!

We are in the heart of Amsterdam, in the residential and smart shopping area called Jordaan. Jordaan is the most popular and historic part of Amsterdam, with small cafes, bars, restaurants, boutiques, organic food and antique markets. The apartments have a spectacular view to the 17th-century Noorderkerk (North church) and many houseboats. Sunsets are breathtaking.

Everything is within walking distance:

Central Station -10min

Anne Frank’s House and Westerkerk (West church), where Rembrandt was buried - 5 min

Dam square, the 17th-century Royal Palace and Madame Tussauds, the world famous wax works museum - 8 min

Shopping: 9 straatjes/Nine Streets - the chic indie boutique district, Haarlemmerstraat, the Bijenkorf, Kalverstraat- the main shopping area in Amsterdam - 5-10 min

Museums Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh museum, Hermitage, Stadelijk - 20-30 min

Grocery stores Albert Heijn, Jumbo - 2min, Markt organic grocery - 5min

Across the street, on the other side of the canal:

Noordermarkt - antique and organic food market

Winkel 73, best apple pie in Amsterdam

Café ‘Papeneiland’, one of the oldest café’s in Amsterdam. Don’t forget to ask the barman to show you the entrance to the secret tunnel than was dug in the 17th century.

Parks: Westerpark 10min and Vondelpark - 20min

Our apartments:

We have two 1 bedroom (2 rooms) apartments in an historical building ( built 1707). The flats are on the second and third floors. The rooms are handsomely decorated with antique and vintage furniture, with some modern and industrial touches. The living room is very bright, with  two big windows overlooking the canal.  Imagine sitting by the windows on a sunny afternoon, with a glass of wine, watching the passing parade of people, boats and bike (hardly any cars!). The street is not so crowded and noisy, as central Amsterdam might be, but with plenty of life.

The bedroom has a comfortable double bed and a big closet. It is quiet and spacious, just perfect to enjoy a good night’s sleep.

The apartment comes with a fully equipped open concept kitchen: fridge, oven, dishwasher, coffee and tea maker, dining wares,

We offer complimentary high speed Wi-Fi, coffee, tea, and welcoming wine.

The laundry room is located in the common area, on the main floor of the building. There is a washer and a dryer, both coin operated. The cost is E1.50 for each washer and dryer.

We are happy to arrange bicycle rental or any other tourist attractions, as you wish.

Canal tour

Rob can take you on a private canal cruise with our own boat. This is a must do, if you really want to experience Amsterdam’s rich history and to hear little-known stories of Amsterdam. The view is amazing especially in the evenings, when most bridges and canal houses are illuminated. Old and new side by side, you will find impossible to resist Amsterdam’s charm. The Red light district, one of the oldest and most beautiful parts of the city with its long winding narrow, cobbled streets and utterly charming 14th century architecture, the medieval canal houses witness to the Golden Age, the modern Eye Film Institute that exude playful Dutch design, to name just a few of what Amsterdam has to offer, you are about to embark on an amazing journey!

About C.Atay Hermsen

We are a couple loves traveling and always trying to rent an apartments during our trips just to feel as we are living in that country. First thing we do is trying to find a local markets ,do shopping and cooking at our new home.So when we have the second apartment in the same building we decided to give this opportunity to our guests in the best part of Amsterdam. So our guests are being also our neighbors. It became a hobby for us while I am working as a dentist and my husband works as an engineer.

C.Atay Hermsen purchased this apartment in 2011

Why C.Atay Hermsen chose Amsterdam

We live also in the same building so we decided that 2 apartment is too much for us and began to rent it to our guests since 2010

What makes this apartment unique

This is the most popular area called Jordaan with many small cafes and restaurants.During the day it is always alive with street musicians, boats or somedays with local markets .At nights it is so peaceful and safe and you hardly hear trafic although the apartment is located centrum centrum. It is 2 minutes walking distance to Anna frank's house and 20 minutes to the museums. There are many uniek shops around and 2 parks .Train station is 10 minutes walking distance. So you dont need any public transport. The view from the apartment is delightful with boat houses and the view of Norden church. All the day you can watch passing of boats on the prinsencanal. My favourite ritual is going to saturday market just across the house to buy weekly fresh flowers and fish to cook for weekend. We are sure you will also enjoy beeing here as we are enjoying since 12 years.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This July 2014 was actually the second time we enjoyed staying at Princengracht with Cido and Rob. First we came on a business/pleasure combination-trip in November 2013, and even if we had carefully selected the accommodation and read all the reviews we came across, little did we know what awaited us! It was easy enough to figure out that the location is perfect for those who wish to stay mainstream but still to enjoy the more relaxed and quieter part of this beautiful city. But renting an apartment in an unfamiliar place from people you do not know is some sort of a lottery - always. Well this time we won - big time! Where to begin?! Location is approx 15 minute walk from Central Railway station, where it is easy to arrive by train directly from the Schiphol airport. It only takes about 20 minutes. Check it out on The apartment offers great view of the Princengracht canal trough the grand windows - easy to relax with your favorite glass of wine, a cup of tea or coffee and feel like at home. You have all the utilities at hand in the cabinets if you like to enhance your experience as a local by cooking... but, in case you don't there are plenty of restaurants, small cafes and bars all around and your host is the best source of where to go. The apartment is clean - squeaky-clean as a matter of fact. There is a very comfortable double bed in the bedroom. Yes, you do have to climb some flight of stairs to get to the upper apartments, but that can hardly come as a surprise - you are in a rather typical Amsterdam canal house! The area, Jordaan, is the perfect place to stay in Amsterdam, certainly worth the extra Euros you might have to pay for staying in this part of the city. As to be expected you are surrounded by museums, churches, grand buildings, and shops on every street. All easily accessible by bus or tram, but as a matter of fact, if you enjoy walking, the best way to explore Amsterdam is by foot. You can do shopping on the popular (and populated!) Kalverstraat, Damrak and Leidsestraat, but if you like to do somewhat different shopping, take a leisurely stroll on the Haarlemmerstraat and enjoy the day! Now, that was all on the location and the city. What about the greatest hosts of all?! They are helpful, cheerful, considerate, friendly, enthusiastic, great source of local info and extremely good to be around. Cido and Rob are exceptional hosts. Please - if you

Charming Amsterdam Apartment.

  • 5 of 5

We spent 4 nights in this charming apartment in an old canal house. Centrally located in the city centre so that we were able to walk from the cruise terminal on arrival and to the train station when we left. Each night we enjoyed a drink looking out on to the canal watching the activities there. It is comfortable and well equipped with a great Saturday market , coffee shop and supermarket immediately across the canal. Each day we were able to walk to all the sights . Suggest booking for the visit to Anne Franks house before arriving as it is heavily booked. Cido the hostess was very friendly and helpful. We were delighted with this accommodation.

Wonderful Apartment in Amsterdam!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week in the lovely apartment located on the second floor. It was definitely everything as advertised and more! It had a lovely living room overlooking the canal, a fully equipped kitchen and a nice-sized bathroom (especially given European standards)! It's located in the heart of city center and within walking distance to most sites, including the train station which enabled us to make day trips to other cities in The Netherlands easily! The hosts (Cido and Rob) were simply wonderful with great suggestions on things to do, places to eat, etc. We would definitely stay here again!

We loved staying here!

  • 5 of 5

We've just returned from a marvelous 13-day stay at Cido and Rob's third-floor apartment at Prinsengracht 79, Amsterdam. We cannot say enough good things about the apartment and our hosts. We are two seniors, in our 70s and 80s. The stairways, though somewhat steep, have good railings and did not present us with difficulties.

The apartment overlooks beautiful Prinsengracht canal. It was comfortably furnished and well appointed. The kitchen area was well stocked with plates, glasses, flatware, a coffee machine, and cooking utensils. The bathroom was stocked with towels and a range of necessities. The shower was excellent. The bedroom faces a walled garden and has a comfortable double bed. It has ample closet and storage space.

On our first evening, we -- along with two friends we traveled with (they occupied the second-floor apartment, directly below ours) -- toured the canals in Rob's boat, with Rob at the helm. It was an outstanding experience on a beautiful evening--well worth the small fee and a wonderful beginning to our stay.

Throughout our stay, Cido was extremely helpful with suggestions on where to eat, sightseeing, and other questions. They both made this visit so easy for us.

The apartment is well located in the Jordaan neighborhood, a 10- or 15-minute walk from Centraal Station and less than five minutes from the Anne Frank House and tram stops. It's also a short walk to food markets, other shops, and ATMs. There are many nearby restaurants to choose from. Winkel's, famous for its apple pie and whipped cream, is just across the canal, as is the Monday morning outdoor market. We could actually see both from our large front-room windows.

This was our third visit to Amsterdam and our very best, thanks largely to this marvelous apartment and our terrific hosts. We will return to Amsterdam. When we do, this is where we'll stay.

The Best in Amsterdam

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a long weekend in June. It was myself, my husband and our 17 year old niece. The apartment is perfect and Cido and Rob were outstanding hosts. While making arrangements, Cido was very helpful. She even helped me with train tickets were were purchasing for our second stop after Amsterda. The apartment is PERFECT. The front/main room overlooks the canal. We loved sitting in that room and just looking and listening to the activity below. The kitchen was well equipped, and the bathroom was spacious and had little nice things (shampoo, soap, lotion, etc). The bedroom wasn't large, but had a comfortable king size bed and great storage space. We used the storage room in the building for our luggage on our departure day. The apartment is just down the street form the Anne Frank House and a great central location. Cido provided great tips on restaurants, grocery stores, attractions, and transportation. It was a great stay and we would book the apartment again!

Truly special

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here at the end of January, as a "stop-over vacation" on our way to complete the adoption of our daughter. My husband is of Dutch descent, and really wanted to experience neighborhood culture while still being able to tour some family landmarks. While the owners were away, they left the place in the apt care of Gabriela, who bent over backwards to make our too-short stay incredibly memorable. The hospitality shown and the experiences provided by Gabriela (as well as her friend Irene) multiplied the perfect location and atmosphere of this property. We cannot recommend this property highly enough!
