Dear tourist, we are a very well traveled couple and what we offer you in our beloved manoir is no less than what we would like to get ourselves when travelling around the world.
Zdena Nabholtz purchased this castle in 2004
Perigord Noir is one of the most versatile places in the world. As written above, we traveled extensively the world, and we fell in love with this area.Having the privilege to own an historical manoir, was a dream come true. Since we divide our time with other properties in France, we took the decision to allow appreciating guests to enjoy this beauty.
At the present time, unfortunetely, it is very! difficult to find a really well preserved historical manoir like ours. The roof, made out of very traditional material, stone called 'loze', is almost a museum item. The location, with its quiet nature around and its privacy, was another reason why we chose this Perigord Noir property.
Everything the other reviewers have said is accurate. This an exceptional property that somehow combines elegance with comfort. The rooms are spacious and luminous. The house is probably more suited to two or even three couples, rather than children, as there are a lot of fragile antiques. The owner is charming and very responsive in the event of any problems, and the local staff are there for visitors. The region is like a fairytale, with beautiful scenery and villages throughout. The nearest city, Périgueux, is much underrated, and well of the tourist trail, but has great deal to offer. We will certainly return.
My girlfriend and I wanted to leave our hectic lives in the city of Vancouver, Canada. She somehow stumbled upon this manoir while looking on this website and I do not regret her booking it without my consent--sneaky woman. At first glance it was amazing to see how well maintained a 13th century building could be. I figured that I shouldn't have judged a book by its cover immediately, but the interior did not change my idea of the manoir one bit. Everything was absolutely authentic and beautiful inside.
Other than the manoir, we spent some time site seeing. One of the most interesting places we visited was the Gouffre de Padriac; which was really close by. I highly recommend anyone who enjoys nature to trek to this cave.
Overall, this place was fantastic and my girlfriend and I even recommend it to our friends. The only issue I had were the insects, but that's expected from a city boy and while being in the countryside.
I stayed for a week in August with my husband and four year old son. It was pretty close to paradise for us - an exquisite manoir in beautiful condition, in its own grounds, with not another house in sight. We could happily have stayed there a month - the area is full of wonderful places to see and things to do, though often all we wanted to do was to spend the day sitting in the lovely garden painting and reading and talking, and listening to the cry of the buzzard over the woods...
Although we did not meet our hostess, Zdena, she was very accommodating and made the whole thing easy for us.
It was a great wrench to leave - we're already plotting our return!
During an invitation to discover Dordogne (the Périgord Noir), I was immediately captivated by this exceptional place.
The home owners of the Manor deserve a medal. Their home/catered manor is beautifully decorated and kept to a superb standard.
On arrival they were exceptionally welcoming and they made ??me feel immediately serene in a setting that is both very intimate and confidential.
There is an atmosphere tinged with rich architecture. It is an invitation to discover France where medieval art is in the limelight.
Starting point for many excursions gastronomic, ecological, cultural and historical, I must say that spending that week in the Manor procured great satisfaction to me.
I am particularly grateful to the owners for their hospitality on arrival and advice.
I strongly recommend the discovery of this beautiful place and this majestic manor.
It's hard to put into words how this holiday exceeded my expectations. The area is incredibly rich and diverse in history, architecture and tradition. Certainly, one week barely scratches the surface of what there is to see and do within even an hour of this Manoir.
I made the decision to accept the optional package of having the host serve as a guide. For me, it certainly facilitated my stay but equally, one could roam and explore on your own – with a good map! There are numerous small roads in the region winding their way through the countryside. It would be great for those with bicycles too as many of the sights would be within a days pedal. Or, if canoeing is your forte, rivers are close by and rentals can be arranged.
The local cuisine was fascinating and with the specialty of the region being foie-gras, duck and goose preparations prevail. Equally unique to the area are truffles, a rare and expensive form of mushroom although they are only harvested in the fall. This is certainly the place to go in France if these culinary items interest you.
Something else that struck me was how peaceful and quiet it is at this residence. There is very little traffic on the road that passes by and the property is very private. As old as the buildings are, the interior of the house is tastefully done with true antiques and bathrooms have been modernized. Equally fascinating to me is the horizontal stone roof design (lauze) dating back to the 12th century and used on many of the houses, manoirs, churches and castles in the region. Incredibly heavy at up to a ton per sq. meter, the design must be supported by thick walls. It gives a unique character to the architecture of this region. Ask your contractor for a 1,000 year guarantee next time your roof needs replacing!
In summary, I think you will find this property a delightful spot to relax or to serve as a base to see the spectacular delights this region has to offer. I would definitely return to see all that I missed the first trip.
I will highly recommend this lovely little French jewel . Only superlatives can be used to describe the elegant house, its location and well kept garden .You will have an unforgettable memories , this place is for everyone who is looking to find place to relax, recharge, enjoy the touch of old world.
We truly lived here for ten days in bedtime story setting.
Thank you- owner- for sharing with us your treasure.
