About Michael Marzolf

My wife and I have been part-time residents of Park Rapids Lakes Area since 2005.

Having camped in the area as kids, coming back was so exciting! We appreciate that the area is low-key, and quieter than the Brainerd area, but still there is plenty to do.

We are both avid cyclists and runners, and REALLY appreciate the Heartland Trail (49 miles paved). We also are triathletes, and take part in the Northwoods Triathlon each year.

We hope you enjoy our cabin and the Park Rapids Area as much as we have, and that you come back to build more family memories!

Michael Marzolf purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Michael Marzolf chose Minnesota

We purchased this home on Big Sand as a legacy property, one that will be in our family forever. As you will see, it is in beautiful shape, ready to be enjoyed. We are interested in having you stay if you are interested in taking care of it too -- that way it will be just as nice when you return next year :-)

Great location! Great land owner!

  • 5 of 5

My family spent most of the time fishing and fishing. It was pure clean fun. The lake was beautiful! Sunsets spectacular! The house was home away from home. Thankyou Micheal!

Amazing Lakefront Home Vacation Rental

  • 5 of 5

My family and I just returned from our weeklong stay at Mike and Nerissa’s home on Big Sand Lake. We had the most wonderful vacation! We did not want our week to end! Mike and Nerissa’s home is truly beautiful inside and out. The home was very spacious and easily accommodated my family of 10 and we did not feel as if we were on top of one another. The home is stalked with a lot of care; plenty of kitchen amenities and cooking utensils, lots of both bathroom and beach towels, firewood for the fire pit, fans for the bedrooms and the beds were all very comfortable. The outdoor space is great as well. My nephews enjoyed riding their bikes countless times around the circular driveway and we enjoyed several campfires at the designated fire pit area. The outdoor grill and table on the deck was perfect for dinners in the evening. Big Sand Lake is a very clean, clear lake and we took advantage of our time in the water. Having the boat lift next to the dock was an added bonus as we were able to bring our boat and easily store for the week. The dock is one of the longest docks I’ve ever seen and you can tell it’s brand new. There is a very nice sitting area at the end of the dock with built in benches which were great to watch the sunsets. There are several steps leading down from the home to the dock, but that was never an issue for my family. All and all, truly one of the best properties I have ever rented on VRBO and I have rented several. Mike is very, very responsive and you can tell he takes a lot of pride in his home and truly wants his guests to have a wonderful rental experience, which we had no problem having!

Beautiful cabin with great sunset views

  • 5 of 5

We rented this cabin along with two other families for a week in June. There were six adults and six kids from ages 2-6. The cabin itself is beautiful and well maintained. The kitchen is well supplied with all the cooking tools you may need and having a gas grill there was also convenient for grilling burgers and pizzas while we were there. There was plenty of room for all to sleep comfortably- the loft was great for the kids and there was plenty of floor space for the younger kids to be in pack n plays or sleeping bags if they wanted to stay with mom and dad. The living area was comfortable and had a tv/DVD/stereo system though we only used it once during our stay - the kids didn't even know we had a tv for the first two days! The best part of this whole cabin though are the outdoor spaces! The front yard has a fire pit and horseshoes and tons of room for the kids to run around. We had a fire every night we were there - large supply of good firewood and the s'more setup was perfect! The driveway is long which was great for the kids to ride their bikes on. The side yard worked well for playing ball and frisbee and to hang a hammock. In front of the house are the steps down to the dock and lake. There are a lot but our kids did great with them and were up and down all day. There is no beach but the water is very shallow for pretty far out and there are some smaller rocks close to shore that the kids liked to play in. The canoe was the only boat available at the time of our stay but it was great to have to go out in the lake and check out the loons a little more closely. We brought life vests for the kids with us but there are several available there. It was a little cold while we were there (60s on a couple of days) so we were only able to swim our first two days (in the 70s and sunny). The fishing was fun and easy to do from the very long dock.

While we were there we also ventured out and spent a day at Itasca State Park- walking the headwaters, hiking and checking out the sights. Ate at the Douglas Lodge and it was beautiful and a nice lunch spot. The park is about a thirty minute drive away.

We also biked from Dorset to Park Rapids one afternoon on the Heartland Trail. It was a nice relatively flat well maintained trail- 12.6 miles round trip. We biked to the playground in Park Rapids which was a nice setup for kids of various ages.

Of note- there is a Walmart in Park Rapids which is helpful for last minute groceries etc.

So comfortable, hated to leave

  • 5 of 5

The home is tucked in the pine trees overlooking the lake. Outside the large garage and circle drive were nice to move our 5 vehicles and 2 boats around. there was room for our two little ones to ride their trikes. We spent a lot of time on the deck over looking the lake. Morning coffee and our fish boil dinner were two of our favorites. The steps down to the lake are a work out, but the new long dock and lake are worth it. We kept our pontoon in the boat lift. The lake is so clear and beautiful. We were about the only ones out all week. the kids loved fishing, tubing and canoeing. We had beautiful weather. Not hot, but plenty warm to spend most days on the water. there always was a nice breeze and no bugs. The one day it rained was not a problem. the kids (6 grandkids 18, 16, 15 10, 4 and 1) played pool, air hockey and ping pong in the basement. they also stayed up late and played monopoly. I was concerned about the kitchen, with 14 of us, but the kitchen was fully stocked and well organized. I Iove the laundry off the kitchen. the living room is just the right size with the two large sofas. the bedrooms are nice sized. My favorite was the upstairs loft. The bedroom with the 3 twins and queen is so cozy and adorable. Just perfect for the 4 older kids. I thought Dorset was so cute. We had lunch at Companeros. We thought it was great. We also seemed to be running in to Park Rapids a lot. Loved the downtown area. The bowling attached to the Pizza Ranch is a big no no. We also a made a trip to Itasca State Park. I wish we would have had more time there. All in all our vacation was a big success. Our three children and their families want to do it again. Thank you Mike, you were so nice to work with. Your home was a real treat. Michele

Beautiful and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

The home is absolutely beautiful! The stairs were not a huge deal. 96 to be exact:) the kids and adults had no trouble getting up the stairs. The house is cool at nights and the fans helped us all to seep while we couldn't hear the noises going on around he house. If you have a large group like we did, 14, with 5 kids, you may want to know that you have to be very quiet:) So if your family likes to stay up late and be loud this isn't a place for that. Very well taken care of and has everything you could possibly want! It was perfect!

FIREWORKS ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED!
Last year there was a grass fire from just a sparkler -- We apologize but this cannot happen again, and thus we cannot allow fireworks.

A NOTE REGARDING NOISE AND BEING RESPECTFUL TO OUR NEIGHBORS:
We had many families stay at the cabin in and they have had loads of fun, and this makes us very happy! Unfortunately we had one guest who was loud and obnoxious, including the use of profanity. Our neighbors were offended, and my wife and I were as well. This incident caused an enormous amount of stress and ended up costing me over $2,000 to defend myself. I recovered part of this cost from withholding 100% of the guests damage deposit. We truly want every guest to have the most fun possible while they are at the cabin -- we simply remind you that this fun cannot be at the expense of our neighbors. Sincere thanks in advance!!
