We live in a cooler often chilly climate in Northern California. Palm Springs offers us a place to switch gears, warm our bones and provides us a delightful environment to engage nature and enjoy the many enlivening activites in the desert.
Barbara purchased this house in 2009
We have been traveling to Palm Springs with good friends who have owned a home in the desert since 2001. We were excited to find a home in a natural desert setting that we could renovate, enjoy and share with others!
We bought this home because of the gorgeous views and the mid-century sensibility of the home in this amazing hillside setting. When creating the landscape with its patios, pool/spa, walls and established trees we made every effort to ensure we brought the natural Palm Springs panorama into view. It is something to behold from every room and spot in and around the house!
We just returned home from our stay at the Modern Hillside Retreat, and I'm already experiencing withdrawal symptoms. Everything was perfect! From the beautiful location on the hillside, to the well stocked kitchen to the cozy bedrooms, we couldn't ask for anything more. The views from the property were mesmerizing and it was a joy to see how the surrounding mountain landscapes change in the sunlight throughout the day. Barbara was an absolute pleasure to deal with before, during and after as well. Please do yourselves a favor and book a stay here - you deserve it! Thanks again, Barbara for everything!
We loved this home - it's beautiful and well-cared for. We stayed over Christmas and the property manager even furnished it with a small white & purple Christmas tree! Pool area was beautiful, kitchen is great to cook in and the property is very nicely landscaped. The casita offered really nice privacy. We would definitely stay again.
Great home with everything you need. Could not be nicer. I look forward to staying again. Thank you Barbara for sharing your beautiful home and making the process so easy.
We all loved the house, furnishings, pool and spa. This was one of the best houses we've rented through Homeaway. This home is nestled against a beautiful desert hillside. The views are just breathtaking. Everything worked in the house and had ample instructions provided for pool, spa and entertainment system. We found ourselves leaving the family gatherings in Palm Desert to spend more time together in our Palm Springs rented vacation home. We loved our stay and would return again.
House was beautiful and well equipped. We had a great time!
From the beginning of the booking process all the way to arrival Barbara made everything so easy for us to plan our short vacation. Emphasis on "short" because the home was so perfect and comfortable for our stay we didn't want to leave. The backyard view is even better in person! We had a regular visit from a road runner every morning before we took a dip in the pool. Honestly can't find a single thing we didn't love about the place and we'll definitely make our way back when we visit again. Thanks for everything!
Modern Hillside Retreat is on a protected cul de sac nestled close to the San Jacinto Mountain Range on the South end of Palm Springs. It's typically wind-free due to the protection of the mountains. The Mesa is an established and vibrant neighborhood of about 180 unique homes with an interesting history. It is strictly a residential neighborhood except for the Moorten Botanical Garden founded by the first desert's horticulturalist.
There are a variety of architectural styles in the Mesa: Spanish, Adobe, California Ranch and Mid-Century Modern. Fabulous examples include: Donald Wexler's Butterfly-Style homes, Alexander homes and the nearby 1930's 'Ship of the Desert' home. Local celebrities include: Barry Manilow, Suzanne Somers, Trina Turk, Herman Wouk.
The Mesa is a neighborhood with diverse and friendly residents who love their slice of pardise in the Palm Springs desert while relaxing, walking, interacting and enjoying its beauty.
