The sun and moon rise over Cadillac Mountain which is framed in the huge sliders and windows. The weather changes constantly. Many mornings are still and calm, inviting kayaking and powerboating, and the afternoons often bring lively breezes that are perfect for sailing. Right around the point is Union River Bay, and Blue Hill can be seen from the southwest side of the point. Because the property faces mostly south, we have lovely sunshine that reflects off the water, so even in the winter you feel bathed in light. Foggy or stormy days bring their own pleasures, with antiquing or shopping nearby, or quiet afternoons curled up by the fire with a good book. The extensive lawn is perfect for any type of outdoor activities you might enjoy.
The unique beauty of Acadia National Park is just minutes away. There are so many things to see and do! Bar Harbor is filled with fun shopping and dining options.

Acadia National Park:: The unique beauty of Acadia National Park is just minutes away. There are so many things to see and do! Bar Harbor is filled with fun shopping and dining options. You can enjoy a day on a windjammer or go out on a lobster boat. Although you technically could go through Acadia National Park in a day, you wouldn't be able to do more than scratch the surface of all it has to offer in just one visit. We always get a pass to the park so we can go as often as we want while we are there. You must see the Loop Road, the views from the top of Cadillac Mountain, the Thunderhole, Sand Beach, the Carriage Roads, and so much more. Plan on visiting the Jordan Pond House to see 'The Bubbles' and try their famous popovers.
The Coast of Maine:
Relax and breathe in the fresh clean air, watch the waves crash on the pink granite cliffs, smell the fragrant pines, hear the gulls call. But, be careful. Once you experience the coast of Maine, it will never leave your heart.
The Coast of Maine:: Other Amenities: Upstairs and downstairs can be two separate areas. Each has their own sleeping accommodations, bathroom, kitchen, and washer and dryer, making this an ideal property for two couples traveling together or an extended family
Other Activities: Lobster bakes, boat charters, ferry to Nova Scotia all nearby
The property has been in our family for four generations.
You can't find a more ideal location in the entire Acadia region. Private and secluded, but close to everything. Comfortable relaxed home with plenty of room to enjoy inside and out. The home is equipped with everything you need to have a wonderful time with your family.
The upstairs balcony has the best view on the property. We love to sit outside in the morning with coffee and watch the wildlife. On cool evenings, we love to have a glass of wine in front of a fire in the chiminea and enjoy the late afternoon sun light up the far shoreline of Mt. Desert Island. The sun and moon rise over Cadillac Mountain, and if you look closely at night, you can see the headlights of the cars making the trek to the peak.
Our family of eight stayed at the Barn at Mainstay in the month of March. We have been vacationing in Maine for about 20 years in different cabins and homes. We can say with all certainty that "the Barn at Mainstay" will be our "permanent" vacation house! The views are spectacular. The home was clean and the furnishings were all so nice. We loved daily shell hunting and the kids loved playing in the very big yard and woods in the back. Our family definitely recommends this beautiful home!
This was our first visit to Maine. We were thrilled with the amazing view of the water and easy access for kayaking! (We were right across from several islands to explore) We spent most nights outside enjoying the view on the very cozy outdoor furniture next to the fire. The kitchen was well equipped with anything and everything you would need. High end cookwear and knife set! (We are from New Orleans so we like a good kitchen to cook in). The owner was easy to reach when we had a minor issue. The barn at Mainstay was fabulous.
My husband, myself and my parents along with our two four legged friends stayed here for a week towards the end of September and had a wonderful, relaxing and amazing vacation. The property is simply beautiful! So peaceful, wonderful views, great access to the ocean. The home itself is also perfect, with plenty of space and everything you need right there. It is located close enough to the town of Bar Harbor and to Acadia National Park to be able to see everything you would want to see and experience, while being able to enjoy your own quiet piece of paradise at the end of the day. We hated to leave after our wonderful week there, but am looking forward to hopefully being able to go back again to enjoy this beautiful property next year.
Beautiful house and grounds with an incredible view! The house worked well for our two families. The location was ideal for us as we ventured into Bar Harbor and Acadia often. One of our favorite modern updates in the house - the countertops in the main level kitchen. The owner was very responsive and easy to work with.
Our family of 6 completely enjoyed ourselves in your home. We rented kayaks for the week and enjoyed ourselves so much paddling the surrounding waters, watching the seals and exploring Alley island that we didn't make it to Acadia park until the following week. Which, by the way, is stunning! My 6 y/o son asked for his birthday if we could go back to Maine...and this was after we completed our 12 hour drive home. I would be happy to oblige him~! Thank you and we hope to come back again soon.
We were thrilled to arrive at "The Barn". This very tastefully house has everything!
Charm, spectacular views of the water and landscape and a cosy gas fire. There is nothing you will want for in this home.
The garden has plenty of space and a lovely seating/dinning area to take in the breath taking views of the ocean.
Liz was very helpful. Her information about places to visit was great! We loved Acadia and got to try some fresh lobster!
We had a very relaxing and refreshing weekend. We will definitely be back.!!!
Oak Point in Trenton is one of the nicest spots on coastal Maine. The view of Acadia National Park and Mt. Desert Island is simply spectacular. There are many small islands in Western Bay which are populated by seals and bald eagles. The boating is legendary, the environment is pristine, and the beauty of the area is simply breathtaking. Acadia National Park is a short drive away, and Ellsworth is so convenient for stocking up on groceries or checking out the charming downtown area with the many shops and eateries. There are many options for family fun, but it will be hard to tear yourself away from The Barn at Main Stay.
Other Activities: Kayaking, Shelling, Cross Country Skiing, Rock Climbing, Snowmobiling, Shopping, Boating, Wildlife Viewing, Miniature golf.
Golf: Kebo Valley Golf Club was founded in 1888. It is the 8th oldest golf club in the United States and has challenged the skills of many of the country’s finest players, most influential politicians and leaders of industry. Nestled between Cadillac and Dorr Mountain in Bar Harbor, Maine, Kebo includes 18 spectacular holes, each one very different from the rest.
The championship par 70 course consistently ranks among America’s best public courses. Kebo Valley is rated among the 'Top 15' public courses in New England by the New England Journal of Golf, among the 'Top 10' classical public golf courses by Golf Digest and received a four star rating in Golf Digest’s 'Places to Play.'
Ski: The Camden Snow Bowl is a community owned ski and recreation area. From the summit of 1300' Ragged Mountain, home to the Snow Bowl's trails, skiers and riders have an incredible view of the Atlantic Ocean. It is a view quite unlike any other in the east. The Camden Snow Bowl really is 'where the mountains meet the sea'. In addition to alpine skiing and snowboarding, there are many other winter activities available at the Snow Bowl. A snow tubing slope provides fun for all family members, ice skating on Hosmer pond and a thrilling 400' toboggan chute. The National Toboggan Championships are held here the first weekend of February. There is also a cross country ski and snowshoeing trail available.
