About the property

A delightful gem with outdoor hot tub and spectacular views - 1 bedroom, 1 bath

WELCOME!

Spectacular views, privacy, and quality define Rock Haven Cabin, which sits on 5 acres adjacent to Joshua Tree National Park. This eco friendly guest house has been newly renovated to create an atmosphere of exceptional comfort, beauty and serenity. In an effort to live more sustainably in the desert we have installed solar power, and a rain water catchment system for landscaping purposes.

This is a perfect place to unplug. You can soak in the private spa while stargazing, curl up with a good book on the patio with a sweeping view of the Park, or cook a gourmet meal in the fully equipped kitchen.

Rock Haven Cabin is small, but furnished with everything one would need. It is very comfortable, well appointed, and perfect for a romantic get away. In addition to the king bed in the bedroom, a sectional sofa with a pull out sleeper in the living room gives sleeping arrangements for a total of 4 guests. The cabin is ideal for two people, or a couple with children.

Luxury linens, including bathrobes and slippers are provided. There is a beautiful, simple to use, wood stove (kindling and wood provided) in the living room, in addition to baseboard heating in both rooms. A new and efficient evaporative cooling system provides comfort in the summer, and there is a gas barbecue outside. There are lounge chairs on the porch along with a wrought iron table and chairs for dining a la fresco.

The private 2-person spa is a few steps from the porch, sheltered by junipers and a large boulder formation. We only use Dead Sea and Epsom Salts in the spa tub, emptying and cleaning it after every set of guests. The water is used on the landscape.

For the adventuresome, you can hike into the park from the cabin, or if you want to explore it more fully, drive to the West Entrance, a half mile away. The park is renowned for its world class rock climbing. It also offers excellent hiking with hundreds of trails ranging from easy nature walks to strenuous mountain hikes.

You can also expect to see local wildlife right from the front porch, and our Joshua Tree night skies are famous for their extraordinary star gazing.

We live in a neighborhood with only a few full time residents in this little cove in the rocks. Because we all respect each other's space, quiet and dark night skies, no events or parties are permitted.

The local area has plenty for you to discover in addition to the beauty of the national park. The village of Joshua Tree is a short drive from the cabin, where you can check out the Park Visitor Center, explore a variety of gift shops and art galleries or hunt for treasures at local thrift stores. There are several good restaurants, a gourmet food store, two health food stores, and a Saturday Farmers' Market. Joshua Tree also has an excellent yoga studio with a full schedule of classes.

The Joshua Tree art scene is vital and eclectic with regular gallery openings and nearly 200 artists living in the area. There is an Open Studio Tour each fall, and many artists welcome visitors at other times by appointment. Live music can be heard almost any day of the week at Pappy and Harriets in Pioneertown, and Joshua Tree holds annual music festivals in the spring and fall. There are also three live theater venues with a variety of interesting offerings.

There is something very special about the peace and spaciousness of the desert, and regardless of the time of year, Rock Haven Cabin offers a wonderful opportunity to relax and unwind in comfort. Our "haven in the rocks" has been an oasis of serenity for over twelve hundred guests since 2010, and we have over a hundred five-star reviews on VRBO and other vacation rental sites.

Keywords: Luxurious desert cabin with spa hot tub. Eco friendly. Private peaceful setting in the rocks. Spectacular views.

About Eva Montville

I had been coming to Joshua Tree for years, with the thought of eventually moving here. In 2004, I found what I was dreaming of -- a home nestled in the boulders, on the edge of Joshua Tree National Park.

Five years later, when our neighbors mentioned that they were selling their weekend cabin retreat, we jumped on it, as a way to share the beauty and serenity of this unique spot with family and friends. By turning Rock Haven Cabin into a one-of-a-kind vacation rental in 2010, we have been able to offer this exceptional experience to a much wider circle.

Some of the things we love about living here are: the dark, star-filled night skies; the quiet, peace and beauty; being able to see forever; the wildlife; hiking into the Park from our doorstep; and connecting with a wonderful community of people in Joshua Tree.

Eva Montville purchased this cabin in 2009

A True Haven

  • 5 of 5

The previous reviews are what grabbed my attention, then during the phone conversation with Eva in response to my inquiry, the choice became clear. This was the place for us for our 3 night getaway. Our choice was reinforced every minute of our trip. Eva and Kathy greeted us as we drove in, acquainted us with a few details, and welcomed us with the feeling of having returned to our perfect spot. It's really true that you have everything you need, and its convenient 2 minute drive to the West Entrance of Joshua Tree, maximized our hiking time each day. The Rock Haven Cabin is the perfect spot to return to and we are grateful to Eva and Kathy for sharing it with us.

Rock haven is a perfect name for this special place

  • 5 of 5

This property will appeal to those interested in getting close to nature. No phone, TV or dishwasher but plenty of birds, cottontails and stars to enjoy from the patio or hot tub. We loved hearing the coyotes.

Cozy cabin with an unbeatable location

  • 5 of 5

We arrived here just as the weather cooled down. This made the two-person spa (and stargazing) a perfect treat. The cabin was comfortable and well provisioned. The owners were friendly and helpful. Joshua Tree is an amazing place to explore and is just two minutes away from this cabin, which looks out at the park and is surrounded by interesting rocks and desert plants. I would definitely recommend this haven to friends.

A magical setting in the California desert

  • 5 of 5

The Rock Haven is a unique place in the world. Joshua Tree is unique already, but the cabin had everything one can desire to enjoy the peace and beauty of the California Desert just a few minutes from the park entrance. Eva and Kathy are vey special hosts, they already transmit what the visitor has come to look for in this unique setting when you meet them and they certainly make you feel very welcome. The cabin is very confortable, well equiped and magical. Soak in the outddor jacuzzi while enjoying the stars, feed the wildlife at the front porch or enjoy a book while laying on the sofa in the living room. Certainly a top 10 on my travel list around the world. Will return as soon as I get a chance. Thanks !!

Perfect relaxing getaway !!!

  • 5 of 5

Perfect, quiet, cozy cabin under the stars! This is a fantastic spot in Joshua tree. Great location right near the West entrance ... The cabin itself is perfect size, very clean... Has a great relaxing porch and the hotdoor hot tub under the stars was the best part! Every morning we saw 4-5 rabbits playing and eating right off the porch. Very quiet and private location. Eva and Kathy were fantastic and very hospitable. Inside cabin is notebook with all local restaurant information , maps, guides, etc.

We will definitely stay here again and recommend to all our friends. Can't say anything negative about this great cabin.

Clean & Cozy with Amazing Sunsets!

  • 5 of 5

The first thing we noticed as we settled in was how clean and well organized everything was. Eva really has done a great job of making sure guests have everything they need to feel comfortable. Once the sun started to go down, we couldn't believe the views (looks right into the park) and the serenity the location offered. We also saw more wildlife at Eva's cabin than any other visit to Joshua Tree (and we've been there dozens of times). I've already had 2 co-workers ask for the link. Thanks for a wonderful stay.
