Spectacular views, privacy, and quality define Rock Haven Cabin, which sits on 5 acres adjacent to Joshua Tree National Park. This eco friendly guest house has been newly renovated to create an atmosphere of exceptional comfort, beauty and serenity. In an effort to live more sustainably in the desert we have installed solar power, and a rain water catchment system for landscaping purposes.
This is a perfect place to unplug. You can soak in the private spa while stargazing, curl up with a good book on the patio with a sweeping view of the Park, or cook a gourmet meal in the fully equipped kitchen.
Rock Haven Cabin is small, but furnished with everything one would need. It is very comfortable, well appointed, and perfect for a romantic get away. In addition to the king bed in the bedroom, a sectional sofa with a pull out sleeper in the living room gives sleeping arrangements for a total of 4 guests. The cabin is ideal for two people, or a couple with children.
Luxury linens, including bathrobes and slippers are provided. There is a beautiful, simple to use, wood stove (kindling and wood provided) in the living room, in addition to baseboard heating in both rooms. A new and efficient evaporative cooling system provides comfort in the summer, and there is a gas barbecue outside. There are lounge chairs on the porch along with a wrought iron table and chairs for dining a la fresco.
The private 2-person spa is a few steps from the porch, sheltered by junipers and a large boulder formation. We only use Dead Sea and Epsom Salts in the spa tub, emptying and cleaning it after every set of guests. The water is used on the landscape.
For the adventuresome, you can hike into the park from the cabin, or if you want to explore it more fully, drive to the West Entrance, a half mile away. The park is renowned for its world class rock climbing. It also offers excellent hiking with hundreds of trails ranging from easy nature walks to strenuous mountain hikes.
You can also expect to see local wildlife right from the front porch, and our Joshua Tree night skies are famous for their extraordinary star gazing.
We live in a neighborhood with only a few full time residents in this little cove in the rocks. Because we all respect each other's space, quiet and dark night skies, no events or parties are permitted.
The local area has plenty for you to discover in addition to the beauty of the national park. The village of Joshua Tree is a short drive from the cabin, where you can check out the Park Visitor Center, explore a variety of gift shops and art galleries or hunt for treasures at local thrift stores. There are several good restaurants, a gourmet food store, two health food stores, and a Saturday Farmers' Market. Joshua Tree also has an excellent yoga studio with a full schedule of classes.
The Joshua Tree art scene is vital and eclectic with regular gallery openings and nearly 200 artists living in the area. There is an Open Studio Tour each fall, and many artists welcome visitors at other times by appointment. Live music can be heard almost any day of the week at Pappy and Harriets in Pioneertown, and Joshua Tree holds annual music festivals in the spring and fall. There are also three live theater venues with a variety of interesting offerings.
There is something very special about the peace and spaciousness of the desert, and regardless of the time of year, Rock Haven Cabin offers a wonderful opportunity to relax and unwind in comfort.

I am a sculptor who is in love with the space and the forms of the desert. I had been coming to Joshua Tree for years, with the thought of eventually moving here. In 2004, I found what I was dreaming of -- a home nestled in the boulders, on the edge of Joshua Tree National Park.
We had only been here 5 years when our neighbors mentioned that they were thinking of selling their weekend cabin retreat. We jumped on it, thus reuniting the original 5-acre homestead parcel on which our house sits. It has always been our great pleasure to share the beauty and serenity of this unique spot with family and friends. By turning Rock Haven Cabin into a one-of-a-kind vacation rental in 2010, we have been able to offer this exceptional experience to a much wider circle.
Some of the things we love about living here are: the dark, star-filled night skies; the quiet, peace and beauty; being able to see forever; all the wildlife; hiking into the Park from our doorstep; and connecting with a wonderful community of people in Joshua Tree.
Eva Montville purchased this cabin in 2009
You cannot ask for or imagine more beautiful front yard or back yard views of desert scenery. The cabin is situated by large Joshua Tree boulders and has the iconic Joshua Trees in its immediate landscape area. I especially loved the bird feeder and the provided bird seeds used to attract the abundant quail, small birds, what I call bunny rabbits and the occasional road runners. The cabin has a nice interior layout flow and has modern fixtures, appliances, and furnishings. The decor is pleasing to the eye and the colors subdued. The two person hot tub is a plus. There's fast internet (we streamed amazon music and easily accessed our e-mail accounts/google information) but there is no TV, decidedly enhancing the desert experience. Provided are essential nature books, local eatery brochures, sky maps for star gazing and driving/hiking guides. A swamp cooler is used for air conditioning. The owners are meticulous in their provisions for kitchen essentials providing teas, coffee, condiments, place settings and cleaning solutions, ..... more than a timeshare kitchen. All city needs are nearby in Joshua Tree/Yucca Valley cities including a Walmart, ethnic food choices, a Sonic to cool down, a quantity of local shops. I loved the time that we spent here. It's a beautiful experience.
My boyfriend and I had the most relaxing weekend here. Eva met us upon our arrival & showed us the few things we needed to know about the cabin. She is very sweet & eager for us to relax and enjoy our stay. Eva did inform us of a local Farmers market in town the next morning, we didn't make it because the cabin was so comfortable & quiet we didn't want to leave.
This cabin is away from it all. The hot tub under the stars is AMAZING!! We happened to be there on a clear night with a lightening storm off in the distance and a meteor shower. It was magical!!
I highly recommend this cabin!! It was truly a home away from home!
Thank you Eva for the wonderful stay and sharing your cabin with us.
Just back from a trip to Joshua Tree for a family get together of my wife and I and our two adult sons. Joshua Tree itself was spectacular, but there's no doubt that what made the trip extra special was staying at Rock Haven Cabin. Wow. Amazing views right into the park. Amazing star-filled sky. Such a kick watching quail, lizards, rabbits and tons of other wildlife close up on the property. A super great little cabin super well outfitted for every need. And wonderful hosts who made our stay just great. I'm planning on returning to Rock Haven in a few months on a road trip with a friend. And there's no doubt I'll be returning again and again for years to come. A total winner.
Perfect place to enjoy the desert! The landscaping around the cabin is so beautiful and so relaxing! The cabin is very comfortable and had everything we needed. We loved stargazing from the hot tub and watching the quails, bunnies and many other birds while we had breakfast or dinner on the patio
Thanks Eva and Kathy.
Rock Haven Cabin is, in a word, perfection. Rock Haven offers the perfect blend of tranquility and adventure, with immediate access to Joshua Tree Nat'l Park. The cabin was comfortable and cozy, yet spacious. We felt it was the perfect size for the two of us. The living area has a wood burning stove, which we made use of one night,. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was updated. The kitchen was well stocked. We brought food to cook one night and had everything we needed. The robes and slippers were a luxurious touch. There are plenty of towels and spare blankets. We appreciated the eco-friendliness of Rock Haven.
The setting is peaceful with stunning, unobstructed views of the Park. We spent our mornings lounging on the patio watching the quail and rabbits enjoying the bird seed and our evenings in the hot tub star gazing. The rocks around the property makes for a secluded, private setting. There is a wash at the end of the property to walk directly into the Park. We drove into the Park each day and looked forward to our return to Rock Haven.
Coordinating with Eva was the icing on the cake. She was a very caring and welcoming host. She met us at the property, showed us around and was very helpful.
We had a spectacular time at Rock Haven and will not stay anywhere else when we return to Joshua Tree!
Had a fabulous time with sisters in this small yet clean and and well equipped cabin. Eva and Kathy were considerate and thoughtful. Would definitely stay here again.
