Dominical Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, Studio + Other (See Description), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

The dream of finding that private spot, nestled in the jungle among nature and wildlife, is fulfilled by a stay in Casa Selva. Sit on the porch overlooking the Pacific shoreline, whitewater playing on the rocks below. Watch the toucans and a myriad of bird life pass right by. White face and Howler monkey's, sloths and pizotes are frequently seen passing through the canopy overhead.

The villa is removed from the hustle and bustle, not only of 'back home', but the feeling of being removed from the world is palpable. Numerous guests have commented on the 'therapeutic affect' of Casa Selva. You truly unwind here. You can enjoy solitude on your balcony or visit our porch/pool area to exchange adventure stories. Because there is only one other rental casa on our property it is always an intimate gathering! When we are not available, and the guests ask for a referral to something similar, we are hard-pressed to come up with the answer. There simply isn't one.

From Casa Selva you can drive 15 minutes to either the world famous surf town of Dominical, or the thriving community of Uvita, complete with grocery stores, banks, ATMs, pharmacies, etc. Numerous sites and activities are all around: horseback waterfall tours, whale and dolphin tours, sport fishing, turtle vigilance, diving, surfing, ATV tours, the list goes on. Or, how about some quiet time in a hammock with a good book? A stay at Casa Selva includes access to the pool, which overlooks the entire southern coastline.

Keywords: honeymoon, romantic getaway, jungle hideaway, additional jungle villas available if needed. Secluded in nature for privacy, but close enough to beaches, surfing, waterfalls, horseback riding, zip-lining, nature reserves, fabulous restaurants and spas, snorkeling and scuba, etc...

Why Diane Connors chose Puntarenas

We did one long trip thru Costa Rica & fell in love with this area in particular & thought it would appeal to other travelers like us so, here we are! We really love and enjoy, the hospitality biz so now we live and work at what we love to do. Peter spends hours in the gardens, he loves to plant things that grow unbelievably quickly! We're here to help with what ever the guests may need & yet give you total privacy at your casita.

What makes this cottage unique

This is a place to let your hair down, relax and enjoy nature. Because we are so close to the jungle (indeed we have a large amount on our property), you will see more wildlife here than in other rentals. Both howler & white faced monkeys frequently use our trees as a path from one valley to another.

You can conveniently do as much or as little as you like while you're here. It's a very central location for the area.

Beautiful Grounds & View

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at Casa Vista very much. The view by the pool is stunningly beautiful. Diane & Peter are wonderful hosts. They will help you with planning tours or just be there for a chat. It's nice to know if you need anything they are always there to help. There was one little issue which really wasn't too much a big deal. We had booked a different cabin/casita, the one with the view but unfortunately we couldn't stay there because of construction. Diane did put us in a different cabin which was larger but it didn't have the wonderful view like the one we had originally booked. The pool area was lovely, we definitely took advantage cooling off in the pool after a hot day touring. The weather was prefect but definitely keep in mind during the dry season it gets really hot! We kept busy everyday, there are many things to do and wonderful places to eat. We found many beaches with no one on them and others that were somewhat crowded so don't be afraid to venture off the main road. Our stay was for 18 days, lots of time to get to know the area and time to chill. During our stay the area hosts a big festival called Envision. It definitely changes the feel of the area. It was much busier and the beaches at times were crowed. So if you decide to go to the South Pacific/Domincal area in late February and don't want the crowds you may want to double check the dates of this festival/Envision. If we had known we would have definitely avoided staying in that area. You definitely need a 4WD! Don't even try to get there without one. But once you get to the top and see the view you will see it's all worth it. So just go with it and enjoy the adventure. Diane & Peter have a wonderful dog, Kirby that I fell in love with, so very cute. You won't have any regrets staying at Casa Vista, you will just have great memories that will stay with you for many years. Thanks to Diane, Peter & Kirby for making our stay a wonderful experience.

Amazing jungle & ocean views with privacy, peace and quiet.

  • 5 of 5

After a 10 minute drive up a steep, winding, bumpy road you arrive at your destination which is well worth the drive. The owners, Diane and Peter are there to welcome you, show you around and answer any questions you may have. They are very friendly, knowledgeable and happy to share with you. The accommodations are cosy with amazing views of the jungle and ocean. They are well equipped will all you will need during your stay and have complete privacy. There are some stores about 15 minutes away from the main road where you can purchase some groceries as well as banks with ATM's. The nights are pitch black which allows you to see thousands of stars while you listen to the sounds of the jungle. If you want it all, peace, relaxing, adventure, beauty and a front row seat to your own private discovery channel, then this is a place for you, but don't try to get there without a 4 wheel drive. Fantastica!

Extremely tucked away high on a mountain ridge

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was beautiful, clean and comfortable. The hosts were wonderful, left us alone but were always available to answer questions. I enjoyed the lovely pool surrounded by trees. Saw a blue morpho butterfly fly across the pool and watched a sloth in the trees! We also heard howler monkeys. Who needs to go to a park! There's a restaurant conveniently located halfway up the mountain that serves wings and drinks and had all the major US games on! The entrance to the property was located along the main road just past dominical so we got to check out various beaches along the way several of which were beautiful and secluded. Checked out Uvita, and Ojochal. The cottage has pots and pans and a hot plate so make sure you stock up before going up the hill. The only reason I would not give this place a 5 is that it is way up a windy, rough and unpaved road. It is very stressful and difficult to find so make sure you have a four wheel drive and get there before dark since it is hard to see the signs that you are given for directions. Otherwise, it was a peaceful and beautiful place!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the great review Valerie! Sorry about the road but it's the only way to get this kind of view, and none of the mountain roads are paved. After all it IS one of the more remote areas along the coast in CR. Where the mountains meet the sea, that's where we'll be! We enjoyed your visit, come again soon, Diane & Peter

Peaceful, relaxing and adventure all in one!

  • 5 of 5

First, let me say that Peter and Diane, the owners are amazingly helpful and a true joy to be around. My boyfriend and I stayed in Casa Selva and we chatted with Diane and Peter every morning and even went out to eat together our last night there to a delicious Sushi restaurant about 15 minutes from the house. They supply you with a map of all great spots to hit while youre there (which was my boyfriend and I's main source of a map, thats how good!), all the brochures you could possibly need and are quite knowledgeable about the area for not being natives! The house was small, but everything 2 people could possibly need and more. The shower had an amazing view as well as the porch where we had morning coffee. I felt so safe in the house each night and leaving our stuff there every day. You truly get privacy, but company if you want it too whenever Peter and Diane are home hanging outside. We saw lots of howler monkeys, blue morphos, toucans and tons of other birds on their property alone! You do need a 4 wheel drive, but then again you need 4 wheel drive pretty much anywhere in Costa Rica. HIGHLY recommend staying here! So much better than any hotel!!!!!!!

Peace and Quiet

  • 5 of 5

You will need a 4 four drive/SUV to get to this place. However, it was 100% worth it!! The property has amazing views of the Pacific coastline, and the Casa Selva, where we stayed, had amazing views of the jungle. The views were not the only amazing part however. Night time is a treat for the ears, with sounds I only expected to hear in a wildlife documentary. Diane and her family are incredibly pleasant people and very well informed about the area, despite moving there relatively recently. In short, do your eyes and ears a favour, and stay at this property!!

Osa Vista Acres

  • 5 of 5

A Great Tranquil environment!

This was just what we needed. A quiet place to relax and enjoy the nature of Costa Rica.

The grounds are so private, we woke up in our casita feeling as if we were in a treehouse.

The wildlife was great too! This property is centrally located for great day trips to go zip-lining, hiking, canopy tours, and surfing! The views are unbeatable, you can see the ocean, the islands, and all the way down to the Osa Peninsula. Sunsets and sunrises were spectacular and the pool was very enjoyable.

We stayed at Peter and Diane’s home in Dominical for the month of February. Peter and Diane were gracious hosts and very helpful with our questions and house hunting efforts. The access is a little bumpy, but it’s well worth the ride, only about 10 min from Dominical where you can buy groceries, eat at restaurants and go to the nearby beaches. We felt at home and would come back again. The whole experience is hard to put into words but the memories will last forever.

Car: necessary

When we are feeling vigorous, there is an amazing ocean view hill climb that can be walked, guaranteed to burn off a few pounds during your stay. There is also a Gym in Uvita and lots of Yoga and Pilates studios to choose from. There is a health and beauty spa where you turn off of the highway to come up to the house. The spa features some of the latest health treatments: mud packs, heated stones, massage and so on.
