Cozy, 2 bedroom cabin nestled amongst old growth maple and cedar trees on Herron Island, a private island located In picturesque Case Inlet, South Puget Sound, Washington.
A 30 minute drive down the Key Peninsula from Gig Harbor takes you to the dock where you will board the Charlie Wells, the private ferry that services the island (ferry fare not included In rental cost). All guests will need a pass to board the ferry. Contact the owners for this pass prior to your arrival. The round trip cost for the ferry is $16.00 for 20 feet and under vehicle and driver and $3.00 per passenger.
Visit the Herron Island website for more information on ferry fares, directions and pictures of the island.
A quick 11 minute ride will take you to the island where you will meet the resident deer (which are so tame you can feed them by hand). Look for bald eagles and osprey as they soar around the island, pods of killer whales as well as seal pups as they soak up the warm summer sun.
The cabin Is located on one of the quietest roads on the island, across from the Nature Park, a wildlife refuge. At the cabin you will find two large decks, one facing west, the other facing east for relaxing, outdoor dining etc... two hammocks in a grove of alder trees make a comfortable place to pass away an afternoon... two beaches, one with a swimming area and marina, one undeveloped, are both within 1/2 mile walking distance of the cabin.
All bedding and towels, cooking utensils and appliances provided (sorry, no microwave, dishwasher or television). No Smoking, please. Dogs are welcome but must be leashed at all times, per island rules. The east deck of the cabin Is gated and safe for most dogs to be outside without being leashed.
This Is A Private Island With Unpaved Roads And No Grocery Store Or Gas Station. There Is A Grocery Store And Gas Station Located About 20 Minutes From The Ferry Dock On The Mainland.
This was a nice family cabin, although it would also be great for groups or just a couple. My husband, myself, and our four kids had a blast for two weeks. Amazing neighbors taught our kids to drive a golf cart and catch dog sharks from the dock on North Beach. We loved feeding and petting the deer. We enjoyed a day trip to Tacoma to visit Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium. If you are a fan of Chicken Fried Steak, don't forget to stop at LuLu's Homeport for the best and biggest ever! Really can't say enough about this trip. Miss being on "Island Time." So grateful to have found such a magical and affordable family getaway.
Very cosy place for a small lodging...no TV....was somewhat hard to enjoy eating dinner here when weather isn't nice as was our case too cold to eat outside...there was no indoor seating nor tables to enjoy dinner as all seating is on the decks...cosy fire and very comfortable bed...all activities are restricted by the Ferry schedule...going to Seattle for nightlife is very limited last ferry can be 7:00pm... but if you are a great planner the island can be veryr elaxing
