About Kris Or Jane

I own another wonderful log cabin just 25 miles north of this gorgeous place! We have been renting it for 13 years. We have many requests every year for a larger rental for larger families and this is it! Join us at our Lodge! Where nature is 'everywhere'

Kris Or Jane purchased this lodge in 2014

Why Kris Or Jane chose Ripton

I have ALWAYS LOVED this part of Vermont! Just gorgeous! And when this opportunity came up to actually be able to buy a place here we were thrilled! With the river just across the road and being near the lake and skiing it was a perfect fit for our large extended family! and the beauty of the area plus the Mossalamoo recreational are right there and being so close to Middlebury also made it a perfect fit. It is a fun place! which was what we were looking for, we have 5 kids and 10 grand children and we wanted a vacation home that we could bring each family to, close to the river and skiing in the winter. This was a perfect for us and we thought many other families might enoy it to.

What makes this lodge unique

When I first drove up my mouth dropped open! It was LOVE at first sight and I had not even entered the house yet! For years I had taken this scenic Route and always thought what a beautiful part of Vermont it was. BUT upon entering this home my heart started to race! all the gorgeous details and Fun the builder had poured into this home. The wonderful surprises! like the stone work inside that drops two floors into the livingroom! and the SECRET ROOM! just to start! It was like walking into my dream fun vacation home! yet a it is warm inviting and HAPPY. All the windows and light, And just the FEEL made me say YES! And the AREA so beautiful! We feel blessed!

Great Family Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

The house and grounds are beautiful! Everyone had a great time and plenty of space to roam or find a little privacy of their own. We had 14 people and still had room for more. I would highly recommend this property. The owners responded to me immediately to answer my question. There was plenty to do inside and outside. Perfect for large groups.

We were in Vermont for a family winter vacation and to bring in the New Year. What a delightful time we all had at the Lodge! The rooms were spacious and very nicely appointed (the Christmas tree and additional holiday decorations created a warm and cozy atmosphere), and very clean! There was plenty of room for all of us to read, play games, cook, talk, and simply enjoy each others company. If we return to the area for another winter getaway, I wouldn't hesitate to stay at the Lodge again.

Plenty of space!

  • 5 of 5

We were a big group- 8 kids and 8 adults, but even so it was easy to get lost in the house. The layout takes some getting used to, but it's pretty convenient for a large group. The "secret room" will make any other rental house pale in comparison in the eyes of all the kids! The front yard is spacious for lawn games. The patio(s) are right next to the road, but they are fenced off and it's a mountain road- so not super busy. The drive to Burlington is beautiful and easy. It's a great space for a big group! We had a blast!

Owner's Response: Thank you for choosing us this year for your stay! We bought this house for the very reasons you mention, The cool layout, The size! And to our grandkids the "Secret Room!" In addition being near Middlebury and on scenic, Rt 125 was a plus especially in the winter. Makes it easy to find and to get to. We have guests stay with us who are attending functions all over the place, They turn it into a mini vacation and enjoy the beautiful scenic drives especially to Middlebury, Burlington, Addison and the other way to towards Sugarbush, Rochester I am so glad you had a blast! We hope to see you again in the future. God Bless, Ben & Kris

Family Vacation

  • 4 of 5

Great location, with near-by fishing, hiking, swimming in beautiful Green Mts. Plenty of room for our family of 12. Ideal for our 1 y r. old, providing crib, changing table, booster seat, and toys. Main floor mostly accessible for family member's power chair. Recommend bringing portable wheelchair too. Upstairs bedrooms have no doors, so minimal privacy. Big Kitchen and lovely patio.

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying with us. We appreciate your choice, All of our upstair bedrooms 5 of them do have doors, The only sleeping beds that don't are the very top of the house which we don't list as bedrooms that is the full bed and the twin daybed for extra sleepers. But all 6 bedrooms all have thier own doors. 1 bedroom on main floor and 5 in 2nd floor. I glad you liked the area it is beautiful! again

We had a great weekend! Large enough to fit my extended family comfortably.

  • 5 of 5

We had a large group and the house was the perfect size. Loved the backyard patio and hot tub. Great location- nice nature walk 1/4 mile away and river across street. Country store nearby was perfect. Quick drive to Middlebury and also some great fishing creeks. Only issue was entrance from driveway hard for older people (has spiral staircase to get to house) and could walk to front door but no real path.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your review! We do have 2 entrances to the house the one at the base of the home with the spiral and the one along the side of the road where our guests with wheelchairs enter and anyone needing to just take a step or 2. Had I known there were some elderly guests I would have let you know that your welcome to drive right up to the side entrance on the lawn. I will now make sure that is in the instructions, so everyone knows we do it all the time:) We hope to see oyu again another time. Thank you and God Bless, Kris & Ben

Exceeded Expectations!

  • 5 of 5

In a nutshell: This home is absolutely beautiful and the owners were easy to get in touch with - and responded very quickly.

About our trip: This was a multi-family vacation with friends, a total of 14: 7 adults and 7 kids, ages 16-months to 6 years old. The size of this home is very accommodating to large groups and there are so many areas to explore. Our kids loved running around all over, up and down the stairs, the playroom in the main living room, reading books by the gas fireplace after hiking/skiing/sledding, the first floor game room, and especially the secret room.

Bonus features we loved: fenced in yard, hot tub, heated floors in the mudroom, the stained glass window, and hiking trails a short distance from the house.

We all agreed this is the perfect spot for us - and we'll be coming back.

Thank you, Kris and Ben for opening your beautiful home to us! We hope to see you again next year :)

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We do try hard to make this fun for the whole family and your friends. It is the unexpected that can be so wonderful! And River Stone Lodge has that and more for families. Our grandchildren LOVE the exact same things as what you mentioned too! Plus swimming in the river in the summer! And the amazing hiking in the area all year long makes this a treasure for all children and adults to always remember. We do hope to see you again! God Bless, Ben & Kris
