Wonderful Stay and Hosts!

  • 5 of 5

I was traveling solo and stayed here. Rick and Gabriela and Sharky the dog were very accommodating hosts. The place had everything I needed for accommodations. The walk to the beach was a pleasant one that usually involved monkey and iguana sightings, as well as interesting birds and friendly people. There is a surf shop on the way to pick up a surf board or body board and sign up for surf lessons if you are a beginner.

The beach was amazing. There are nice places to eat within walking distance of the cottage. I can't wait to go back and stay here again.

Pura Vida!

  • 5 of 5

This house was everything we could have asked for and more! Gabriela and Rick were wonderful kind hosts and the area was very safe. The beach was a short walk and so was Las Olas and Lola's to grab drinks and a bite to eat.

We will certainly be going back to visit very soon!

The perfect place.

  • 5 of 5

As a solo traveler I was fortunate to be able to stay here. The house is perfect, has everything you need, it is very secure and Rick, Gabriela and their dog Sharky were wonderful hosts. Very welcoming, knowledgeable and 2 of the kindest people I have met in Costa Rica.

The beach is a short walk, and if you need to rent a surfboard it's on the way. Great waves for the beginner to expert. Lots of great places to eat in the area, Cabinas Las Olas, Lola's, Grigorios and Tamarindo is a 30 min drive, if you don't have a vehicle, there is a shuttle to get you there and back.

Staying here was the highlight of my trip and I cannot wait to return.

absolutely wonderful stay! perfect hosts, house and location, highly recommend!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for a week and loved it! The location was fantastic, only a 5-10 minute walk to the beach and on the way you get to see monkeys and iguanas. The beach in Playa Avellanas is perfect for surfing, body boarding, swimming and relaxing. There are great restaurants within close walking distance and a shuttle to Tamarindo if you wish to go there. We didn't have a car and didn't miss it! The house is perfect, we were able to make meals do plenty of relaxing there and slept very well. There is a place to rent surf boards, etc within close walking distance. We cannot wait to go back and highly recommend this place to stay, Rick and Gabriela are amazingly wonderful people, we were very sad to leave.

Nicest hosts, amazing location, has everything you need!!

  • 5 of 5

Recently spent 14 days at the Blue Lagoon House and has the most amazing time. If you're looking for the real Tico experience, look no further. Rick & Gabriella were simply the nicest hosts from welcoming me at the gate and giving me a tour of the place despite my late arrival to inviting me over for a delicious typical Tico BBQ prior to my departure, and giving great advice about the area in-between. Gabriella is an amazing cook and she was kind enough to share some of the local delicacies with me and taught me how to make & eat breakfast like a true Tico: Gallo Pinto (I am still eating it for breakfast every day back home)! Rick is a great surfer and was kind enough to share some of the local knowledge of the breaks and it was nice to share a couple of waves with him at Palo Seco! They also both helped me brush up on my Spanish!

The house itself has everything you could possibly need. It is a gated property with the main house (so Gabriella and Rick are always just a few steps away if needed) and the guest house with parking spot. The 2 rooms are spacious with comfortable matresses and the master bedroom (2 double + 1 single bed) is equipped with an A/C unit, which was very appreciated in the hot Costa Rican nights of the dry season. The kitchen is equipped with all necessary amenities (stove/oven, fridge, toaster/toaster oven, coffee maker, and all the kitchen-/tableware you may need). No microwave but you can get around that no problemo! Nice little dining room/living room area to chill out during the evening. The bathroom was very clean (as was the rest of the house) and the shower has warm water.

The Playa Avellanas area is the best. Remote enough so that you get the cultural experience of what the real Costa Rica feels like yet it's a short drive (20min) from Tamarindo's nightlife & shopping and a 30min drive to Santa Cruz where you'll find nice local markets with cheaper goods. It's a 10min walk to the beach from the house. If you'd rather drive, park at the Cabinas las Olas across the street or at Lola's a 5min drive away (a great restaurant worth a stop during your stay). Both offer security for your cars and are free although you are somewhat expected to tip the security guards at Lola's. The beach is very nice, uncrowded, with a few shaded areas to find cover from that burning mid-day Tico sun. For surfers, tons of nice beach breaks, lefts & rights. The water is clean & warm and you can bet on it being sunny & gorgeous every single day!
