Tucked in the forests of Mt. Hood is a charming little cabin made for getting away from it all, whether alone or with someone you care about. With a riverfront location and modern amenities, this beautiful home brings you to the mountains without losing your connection to the modern world.
Located two miles from Welches and over 42 miles from Portland, this charming home sits on the banks of the Sandy River, a lovely spot for fishing and float trips. The forests are full of trails for hiking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing, making it very easy for guests to come prepared with their active gear.
Although the home keeps with its rustic roots with vintage furnishings, wood siding, ample natural light, and a wood-burning stove (please supply your own wood), this home has modern amenities like WiFi, cable, a DVD player, and a stereo.
A kitchen nook with white appliances and granite counters is a great place to cook a romantic meal, to be eaten inside at the small dining table, or outside on the patio as the river flows by. Tag team the dishes, then head out for a fire while the stars shine.
This home is comfortable for one to two guests with a queen bed and a single bathroom with a standing shower.
For romantic getaways that involve hiking, biking, fishing or skiing at nearby Timberline (about 20 miles away) and Skibowl (about 13.5 miles away), this charming Mt. Hood vacation cabin keeps you warm and comfortable, connected and yet completely present - book today!
Thanks for considering a Vacasa home! We provide full-service management for privately owned vacation homes, and like to think that we offer our guests the best of both worlds: the unique experience of staying in a one-of-a-kind vacation home, with the peace of mind that comes from knowing that the home you book for your special vacation is cared for by professional housekeepers and property managers.
Vacasa began in 2009, simply because our founder and CEO Eric wanted to find a better way to share his wife’s family’s summer home in Long Beach, Washington with guests as a vacation rental. Eric and his early team worked to build Vacasa on the premise that local employees can do what they love most (taking care of guests, homeowners, and properties), while the hands-off tasks of vacation rental management—things like marketing, filing taxes, and maintaining a website—could be handled by a specialized central support team.
Our passion is connecting travelers with the unique experience of staying in a vacation home, and we would be honored to be your host. Please contact us with any questions about this home—our team is standing by!
My fiancé and I stayed at Pappy's Cabin over a weekend in December. We're Portland natives & we enjoyed the short drive to Meadows. The cabin has all of the amenities, but nothing beyond the basics. If you're looking for an easy, no frills, cozy place to stay, this checks those boxes!
Cons: The DVD "collection" is one movie, so bring a few of your own. The couch is not confortable and after a day of hard skiing, my body missed a comfy sofa! The cabin was bitterly cold for a couple hours before we got the wood stove up & running (it was very warm and cozy thereafter).
Pros: the bed is very comfortable, the bathroom has a heated floor, the river is very close & its close to all of the ski resorts on the mountain.
My partner and I decided to leave our house in Portland for 3 nights over Thanksgiving so I could focus on my grad school thesis, while being in a beautiful place. When reading the reviews, I was slightly concerned that something would go wrong, but there was no need to worry. This is the sweetest, coziest cabin with beautiful big windows overlooking the woods, with a slight view of the river. The bed was comfy, the kitchen worked well enough for us to cook our entire Thanksgiving feast, and the wood stove was darling. My only suggestions for making it better would be for them to get a new couch at some point (we are small so we were able to snuggle on there and watch T.V.- but barely), and for them to get some glass-ware for folks who like to have a wine/water in cups that aren't plastic. But seriously, those are such tiny things compared to the goodness of the place. I can imagine that we will come back here!
Pappy's cabin is in an awesome little neighborhood near the Sandy River (there are neighbors nearby, but the area was very quiet). The cabin is small but had everything we needed for a romantic get-away with access to Mt. Hood and other areas for hiking during the day. There is a path down to the river right behind the cabin. We used the stove for heat and it was almost too toasty warm! There is a nice, big deck with a table and chairs. If you sit on the deck or leave the sliding door open, you can hear the river. I love that sound!
A few cons, but nothing that would stop me from staying here again:
- As others have mentioned, the couch was not very comfortable. As it is the only place to sit besides the kitchen chairs, it was a bit of a bummer, especially after a 12-mile hike!
- I did not find the bed particularly comfy.
- There seems to be the beginnings of a wasp nest under the deck (every time we walked on the deck, the wasps showed up). The owners may not be aware of it yet.
- The price seemed a bit high for a weekend in a cabin, especially since it is the off-season in the Mt. Hood area.
Despite the very minor cons, I would definitely consider staying here again. It was wonderful to be able to cook our own meals, hang out on the deck, walk from the cabin to the river, and have easy access to Mt. Hood recreation. A small grocery store, Thriftway, is nearby and that was very helpful for us. Also, check out Coffee House 26, great coffee, cute place!
A fantastic cabin in a quiet wooded neighborhood. We especially enjoyed the nice big deck where we could hear the soothing sound of the Sandy river. Highly recommended!
A great location and a very relaxing time. It's far enough from the beaten path as not to realize it's there but close enough to all modern conveniences. The sound of the Sandy will mesmerize and remain in your mind!
I would say this rental would be best utilized by residents of Oregon that travel here from their homes by car because you can bring the amenities that you may want or need. Because we came from the other coast, we could not pack items we would use to grill, stay cool, etc. The cabin was very clean though, which was very appreciated.
