Tucked in the forests of Mt. Hood is a charming little cabin made for getting away from it all, whether alone or with someone you care about. With a riverfront location and modern amenities, this beautiful home brings you to the mountains without losing your connection to the modern world.
Located two miles from Welches and over 42 miles from Portland, this charming home sits on the banks of the Sandy River, a lovely spot for fishing and float trips. The forests are full of trails for hiking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing, making it very easy for guests to come prepared with their active gear.
Although the home keeps with its rustic roots with vintage furnishings, wood siding, ample natural light, and a wood-burning stove (please supply your own wood), this home has modern amenities like WiFi, cable, a DVD player, and a stereo.
A kitchen nook with white appliances and granite counters is a great place to cook a romantic meal, to be eaten inside at the small dining table, or outside on the patio as the river flows by. Tag team the dishes, then head out for a fire while the stars shine.
This home is comfortable for one to two guests with a queen bed and a single bathroom with a standing shower.
For romantic getaways that involve hiking, biking, fishing or skiing at nearby Timberline (about 20 miles away) and Skibowl (about 13.5 miles away), this charming Mt. Hood vacation cabin keeps you warm and comfortable, connected and yet completely present - book today!

Vacasa - Vacation Rentals Made Easy:
Professionally managed and cleaned homes
Local assistance 24/7 for emergencies
Secure INSTANT booking
Thanks for considering a Vacasa home! We provide full-service management for privately owned vacation homes, and like to think that we offer our guests the best of both worlds: the unique experience of staying in a one-of-a-kind vacation home, with the peace of mind that comes from knowing that the home you book for your special vacation is cared for by professional housekeepers and property managers.
Vacasa began in 2009, simply because our founder and CEO Eric wanted to find a better way to share his wife’s family’s summer home in Long Beach, Washington with guests as a vacation rental. Eric and his early team worked to build Vacasa on the premise that local employees can do what they love most (taking care of guests, homeowners, and properties), while the hands-off tasks of vacation rental management—things like marketing, filing taxes, and maintaining a website—could be handled by a specialized central support team.
Our passion is connecting travelers with the unique experience of staying in a vacation home, and we would be honored to be your host. Please contact us with any questions about this home—our team is standing by!
A great location and a very relaxing time. It's far enough from the beaten path as not to realize it's there but close enough to all modern conveniences. The sound of the Sandy will mesmerize and remain in your mind!
I would say this rental would be best utilized by residents of Oregon that travel here from their homes by car because you can bring the amenities that you may want or need. Because we came from the other coast, we could not pack items we would use to grill, stay cool, etc. The cabin was very clean though, which was very appreciated.
We truly enjoyed our stay at Pappy's Cabin. The cabin is just the right size for two and the amenities were perfect. I appreciate the updates to the cabin while retaining the woodsy feel. The heated floor in the bathroom is an excellent feature. The deck was a favorite place for us. There is a lot of nature to explore in the immediate vicinity, so we didn't have far to go for fun. My only disappointment was not being able to see the river from the cabin. But that wouldn't keep me from staying here again.
Just arrived to the cabin this evening. It is smaller than the pictures would make it appear, and I was highly disappointed by the fact that there was no firewood upon our arrival. I did not find any information provided on the listing regarding this, except photos of a stocked wood stove, which was very deceiving. I also felt deceived by the fact that it is a shower only bathroom, which was not identified on the listing. I am six months pregnant on my birthday weekend and a hot bath after a hike was something I had been looking forward to. I tried to contact the management when I arrived who simply stated sorry no firewood no tub, nothing we can do. I had been planning this trip for weeks, and had the listing been accurate I could have booked something else that actually served my needs.
This little cabin was set in the forest with a nice outdoor deck where you could sit and hear the Sandy River rushing by about 50 yards away (could not see the river). The only downsides to this place were that the couch was the only place to sit in the living room and it is really not comfortable - and the glassware was pretty much all plasticware. If these two things are not deal-breakers we recommend this spot for a get-away - close to hiking and activities on Mt. Hood. Oh and the Rendezvous grill down the street in Welches was great!
This cabin was clean, warm and beautifully laid out. Only a stone's throw from the Sandy River, the small cabin seemed much larger due to two side by side sliding class doors blanketing the east wall. These large windows allowed for the glorious morning sunshine to flood the whole house.
Clean kitchen with amenities, huge back deck with outdoor table and chairs, as well as a small BBQ grill. Highly recommend this for a couple looking to get away from the daily grind for a reasonable price.
