I have been a real estate agent here in San Diego. I own and manage rental units in Hillcrest, University Heights, Mission Hills. I love HGTV, I get a lot of enjoyment in rehabbing old houses and apartments. I have 2 dogs and a feral kitten that found under a house that I bottle fed and got attached.
I love to travel. I have found that if I find a rental in the city I am visiting instead of a hotel I get a much better deal and Its more enjoyable experience. My last trip I rented an apartment in Munich Germany and Venice Italy. Like San Diego the hotels and Motels are expensive. I saved half on logging.
Max Coates purchased this cottage in 2001
Simple. I have used the site myself when traveling
Clean safe, air conditioning charming, washer and dryer, car parking
My husband and I stayed at the cottage for 1 month and we couldn't have been happier. The location is perfect---a short walk to Hillcrest shopping and restaurants, Balboa Park, and the transit system. Max was quick to respond before and after our arrival. The cottage was so charming, and we really enjoyed the small patio and grill. It was well stocked with everything we needed. We hope to be back next winter. Thanks Max!
We stayed here for 8 nights and were so happy with all of the amenities and the service we got from Max. He was so fast to respond to our questions and needs. The location is fantastic, just minutes from everything. Our dog loved walking to Balboa Park everyday. It was very clean and well taken care of. Thank you for a wonderful vacation!
My partner and I had a nine day stay in San Diego and this cottage in Hillcrest couldn't have been more perfect for us. The location was phenomenal...close to University Ave with all of the restaurants and shops and just a short distance from the zoo and Balboa Park. The cottage itself was cute and comfortable. We were pleasantly surprised it was actually very quiet at night despite being tucked behind a condo complex with two other small cottages right beside it as well. The only complaint we can come up is that there were some tiny ants in the bedroom and bath despite being little ant traps around. It was overall very clean and well-maintained. The owner, Max, was very easy to work with. We just loved this cottage and will definitely stay here again when we return to wonderful San Diego!
My husband and I stayed in this cottage for over three weeks this summer. Let me say that we have used VRBO many times in the past, but this was not the typical stay we have had with them before. We never saw or talked to the owner, the key was on the dining table inside and the door open when we got there. No one ever called, they would have never known if we were there or when we left. The time i emailed him to ask about the WiFi, he told me to please pay the remaining balance, for which I answered how? They said to leave the check on the back patio and it was picked up by someone. Convertible sofa was indicated, but there was none and the sofa that was there was very old and not usable as a bed. We did not see the DVD player and later found one in a closet. We emailed about a mail key and then one appeared laying on the back patio the next day. This was not our first trip to SD, but I wouldnt recommend it for any first timers, there were no guide books or area materials to see. I will say that the cottage was very clean when we got there, but there was a very strong chemical smell that we had to buy room deodorizers and leave the windows open for several days. I would recommend that the cleaning people use a more friendly cleaning products, as it was horrible to anyone who is sensitive. We did have a few problems with ants as well. The area was great, Hillcrest offers many restaurants and shops. It was quiet and the neighbors were great.
Property was well maintained and provided a perfect location for my trip to San Diego. It was only a short drive to the San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park and lots of restaurants in both the Hillcrest and Little Italy neighborhoods. Max, the owner, was excellent to deal with and responded to all my questions and concerns in a timely manner.
I stayed here for 5 nights, and eventually extended my stay for an entire night, because I had THAT much fun. for $110 a night, i had the entire cottage and was allowed to bring my dogs. that's way cheaper than any hotel and there's no pet fees involved. Max was very accommodating with my weird check in and out times (i came at 6pm and left at 7pm), and was always quick to respond to my questions e.g "what's the wireless password for internet"
I loved the location, it was in a really cute neighborhood and hillcrest has THE BEST food/restaurants in san diego which is within walking distance if you aren't lazy like me. amenities were decent: there's a heater/ac, dishwasher, bbq, private patio, and kitchen utensils were brand new and very clean! My only complain was that the bathroom is tiny and the appliances were old but who really cares. The cottage was clean, but the floor was very dusty/gritty when we got there, which is my other complain. however, the towels were clean, and the bed was my FAVORITE thing about the apartment. you HAVE to sleep on the bed, i have a tempur at home but this was pretty awesome too, and the sheets are so super soft.
i had the most amazing stay there and will definitely choose to stay here again if i ever came down to SD.
