Amazing House on Keeler Lake.

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at this clean, exceptional property with our two kids and my parents. It is well decorated and maintained. It is a perfect beachhouse! There is sand and sandtoys by the water, which the kids loved. It is also equipped with a motor boat, kayak, paddle boat and paddle board. There were fishing poles available and my dad and son really enjoyed catching fish off the dock. There was an adult bike, a small kids bike and big wheel. You can get all the way around the lake either running or biking (less than 2miles). The lake is very quiet and did not get too busy on either of our stays. On rainy days there are board games, books and great views of the lake. Christine and the owner Jack are both easy to reach and receptive to feedback and quick to resolve of any problems. We like to eat healthy which meant some planning and extra packing ahead, so we'd have what we needed to make meals. The kitchen is fully stocked and there were some staples left there that we were happy to have, like spices. While there is a store not too far away, it can be pricey and the produce options leaves a bit to be desired. There is a cute diner in the Sister Lakes area, called the Wright Place, that shares the grocery store parking lot where we enjoyed breakfast & lunch. Otherwise if you are looking for places to eat plan on a 15-20 minute drive. There is an Italian place called gala-T Inn in Hartford that while the inside is a bit of a dive the food was pretty good. Hard times Cafe is in downtown Decatur and has decent food for a small price. Best pie ever can be purchased at Sprague's family farm. They also have good produce, a play yard and toy trains set up that was really fun for the kids.

Keeler Lake House is a very peaceful area to relax and enjoy family time. We enjoyed our stay here!! Thanks again.

Family vacation on Keeler Lake

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I rented the house for our family. Three adult children, spouses and three young grandchildren. It was the perfect week for all. The home is beautiful, clean and comfortable with lovely views. The lake is the perfect size for boating with young children. Son and son-in-law enjoyed the fishing. Badminton, horse shoes, ping pong table, private beach, games for the evenings. We were all sad to leave. The owner Jack was their to greet us and even provided supper! I've rented many homes in Michigan and I can honestly say this was the best experience I've ever had.

What a great getaway for a family gathering!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was excellent. There was so much for the kids to do, that they were busy from the time they woke up till bedtime. The adults enjoyed relaxing time on the beach, and playing badmiton, horse shoes and the wonderful breeze. Once again, you exceeded our expectations. We certainly will be in touch to set up a time for next year.

Lest I forget, the fishing was great, the kids think they found a "honey hole", as they caught enough fish for a fun filled "fish fry", and yes, they were great! As usual the accommodations were super with bedrooms for all 8 of us.

We all had a great time and are already planning and looking foreword to next year.

Excellent Family Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

The Keeler Lake House is a great family vacation rental which provides plenty of space and activities for the whole family. We had 10 people stay comfortably every night and were fortunate enough to have cooperating weather to enjoy the outdoor activities as well as using the charcoal grills and fire pit every night. There were 2 kayaks, paddle board, paddle boat, and motorized boat which we used every day. In addition, there were a variety of beach toys for the kids, outdoor tables/chairs, basketball hoop, ping pong table, and badminton net. Jack showed us around when we arrived and even provided dinner for the first night. The house was very clean when we arrived and stocked with kitchen and bathroom amenities.

One of the days we played golf at Berrien Hills (near St. Joseph) while the rest of the group went downtown St Joseph to enjoy the children’s museum, Splash Pad, and ice cream at Kilwin’s. Another day we booked a fishing charter on Lake Michigan through Originator Fishing Charter. If you are interested in fishing, I would highly recommend looking into Originator Charters.

To echo some of the more recent comments, I would highly recommend bringing as much food as you can/want as the grocery store in town (~15 minute drive) is small, not very well stocked, and high priced. There are not many restaurants close by and you will have to drive quite a distance to get to some of them. I would also recommend bringing plenty of drinking water and bug spray.

Beautiful home for a special getaway.

  • 5 of 5

Keeler Lakehouse is a top notch property on a lovely little all- sports lake. The kitchen was very well equipped including a Keurig coffee make. Christine was very responsive when we had questions and Jack met us and gave us a tour of the property showing us all the amenities etc. He even provided us with dinner for our first night.

The children in our group ranged in age from one to ten so the porta crib (and full size crib), gates, highchair and child sized dishes and utensils were much appreciated. We made frequent use of the paddle boat, kayaks and paddle board. While we didn't use the motor/fishing boat, it was available for us. Since the weather was on the cooler side, we made a fire in the firepit almost every night using the wood provided. The expansive lawn provided the perfect spot for the kids to play badminton and catch fireflies at night. We took a day trip into St. Joe and the kids enjoyed they Kid Zone, water pad and beach on Lake Michigan followed by ice cream downtown. One night we went into Dowagiac to Zekes for burgers and beer and another night we had pizza and ice cream at the Hayloft on Hwy. #51 south of Harvard....wonderful ice cream treats. The only cautions we have is that the beach was very weedy and the kids were not interested in swimming there which was a shame and you need to be aware that the grocery store is about 15 min. away. We brought much of our food and other supplies so we did not have to make too many trips to the grocery store. Basic paper products, spices etc. were available to get you through the first few days which was great. Overall, we loved our stay at Keeler Lakehouse and would not hesitate to return again for a special family getaway.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for the 5 star review! We really appreciate working with families like yours, it was really our pleasure. We would like to ask you to clarify the statement "The only cautions we have is that the beach was very weedy". The lake water does have "nature" in it, but believe that the beach does NOT have any weeds in it. We work very hard to keep the beach and yard/grounds as manicured as possible. The association works on keeping the lake as weed/muck free as they are able, which isn't always as much as we would like for swimming :) Thanks again!
