Perfect for large family and groups with a variety of ages and interests... There is fun for everybody!!
AWESOME!!We traveled with a group of 15 people with a wide range of ages, from 75 to 9 years of age. The Chalet and Kevin and Geri met the needs of all of us. Kevin and Geri were fantastic hosts and made us feel at home, very helpful with anything we needed from adventure advise to fishing advise to just some good R&R for others. The location of the Chalet is perfect for our group, you can fish out the back door but a short drive to get some food or groceries for an outdoor cooking, a short drive in any direction will also put you in the lap of adventure (scenery, fishing, hiking, sight seeing, shopping, good food, did I mention fishing). My son and I caught rainbow trout and grayling out of canoe lake every day and the other children loved the canoe's and paddle boat. Thanks Kevin and Geri for letting us share your home and your life for a short while, the memories will last forever. Keep in touch and FISH ON!!!
We had 10 people staying for 2 nights. We had really high expectations because of the pictures, and it totally exceeded our expectations. Everything was super clean and organized, and the house had everything we needed --- well-stocked kitchen, big dining table, grill, firepit, board games ... The living room windows face the river and the views were STUNNING! The house is very spacious and fit us all without any problem. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for accommodations for a large group around the Anchorage area.
The Homer women's hockey team (the Divas) stayed at this house for a tournament in Palmer. The house was absolutely perfect with enough room for everyone. Very close proximity to town and the ice rink. We were especially pleased by the kitchen and how it was stocked - we liked being able to cook large meals without any problems! Geri was fabulous to work with and answered questions and made sure we enjoyed our stay. We will definitely be back!
I was looking for a place big enough to accommodate my family and my in-laws. We wanted lots of room for games, making food, and hanging out. When I found this place online we knew it was the perfect fit! When we arrived it was just as it looked in the photos...and even more impressive in person. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and could sleep way more than my large party if needed. There was a lot of space for us to hang out without feeling like we were on top of each other and the view was so beautiful. The kitchen was stocked well and we were able make a lot of meals there without having to go out every night...for us this was a BIG bonus.
Geri and her husband were great! They were easy to contact if needed and quick to respond. I would stay here again when in the area!! It exceeded all expectations.
I sit on the Executive Board of the Anchorage Chapter of the Alaska Travel Industry Association. Every year we have our retreat in a different location around the state. Our next state convention is being held in Anchorage in 2016 and we are hoping to have part of our "Community Night Social" be held in the Mat-Sue Valley so we decided to have our retreat in the Valley for the planning of whats to come next year. There were 11 people that stayed at the Canoe Lake Chalet and let me tell you it was fabulous from the first time I contacted the owner, until our departure after the retreat. It had such a beautiful view, very homey Alaskan feel, and LOTS of room for our large group. I would highly recommend this beautiful home to family travelers or a group like ours who just wanted to have a casual business meeting somewhere other than the office! Truly a very wonderful place to stay!
This summer we stayed for two weeks in the Bear Den, which is the apartment unit on the lower floor of Canoe Lake Chalet. We had a very comfortable, enjoyable stay, and it was a nice base from which to explore the many wonders of Alaska.
The Chalet is located on Canoe Lake, and the back of the house faces the lake. The front of the house faces the road and parking. Both upper and lower units have expansive decks looking out on the lake, which are equipped with gas grills and outdoor furniture. It is a treat to sit outside on a pleasant summer day eating grilled salmon with a view of the lake and mountains. It is also a treat to be out early in the morning and hear the call of a loon or watch a bald eagle swoop by and land at the top of a nearby tree. The Chalet property extends down to Canoe Lake where there is a dock and a variety of small boats to explore the lake or just play on it. There is a level area down by the water where one can play a variety of games, such as frisbee. In the vicinity of the Chalet are a number of hiking trails to the various adjoining lakes.
The Bear Den is lovingly furnished with various wildlife themes throughout the unit. It has a large living room/dining room area with views out onto Canoe Lake and the mountains to the north. There are two bedrooms, one with a double bed and one with two twin beds. This was just right because my wife and I were staying with our two sons. The kitchen is fully equipped, and the bathroom is very spacious and has a clothes washer and dryer. We were grateful to have cable TV and high-speed internet.
Geri McCann, owner of the Canoe Lake Chalet, is also a licensed travel agent (Authentic Alaska Tours) and can make arrangements for a variety of Alaskan excursions. She is very responsive, and working with her is a delight. She made arrangements for our excursions and all of them exceeded our expectations. Our stay in the Bear Den and the excursions we took made for a delightful and memorable vacation in Alaska.
We are part of the Kepler-Bradley Lakes State Recreation area with 10 lakes. Beautiful wilderness trails provide great hiking, mountain biking, or cross-country skiing . Canoe lake is stocked with rainbow trout and grayling, its non-motorized quiet and pristine. Try som surrounding catch and release lakes - with huge fish! Ice fishing is great in the winter, along with ice skating and skiing on the lake. Relax around a camp fire by the lake and soak in the Alaskan wilderness serenaded by loons and varieties of lake birds. Watch our nesting eagles and hawks hunt and dive for fish. View incredible northern lights displays right out your window!
Experience Alaska's best adventures in the surrounding area: salmon fishing, hike on Matanuska Glacier, jet boat or helicopter to Knik Glacier, white water rafting through jagged mountain ranges, wilderness trails, extreme mountain hiking or climbing, horse back riding.
