Why The Owner chose British Columbia

Barb and I chose Apex Mountain for it's family friendly atmosphere and relaxed lifestyle. We had a condo on a neighbouring mountain but found the crowding, especially lift lineups, and the packed in nightlife was not our style. At Apex lift lineups are seldom more than 2 minutes and if you want to go out for dinner you don't need a reservation. We picked our chalet because it is very private, set back from the road on a 1/2 acre lot with parking for up to 6 vehicles.

What makes this chalet unique

We designed the chalet so that our guests do not feel the need to go out in order to entertain themselves. Satellite TV, movies, pool table and 9 person hot tub keeps them busy after a hard day skiing. Wake up to the smell of the pine trees and the crack of the fresh mountain air

Comfortable and roomy

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay here. We had to do a little work the first day to sort out things like the igniter on the BBQ (needed a new battery), the vacuum cleaner (totally plugged up) the pool table (suffering from neglect and poor cleaning) but after the humps were crossed this was the perfect place for us. Lots of beds, awesome retreat from the hustle and bustle of Penticton. Stellar jays and Canada jays were enjoying our peanuts, getting scolded by the local squirrels, really was fun. This house isn't updated but that worked for us, made us comfortable and relaxed. The owner was awesome, quick, kind and laid back. This house has quality, albeit aged, but still quality. The Dufferin pool table took a couple of hours to get back into shape (cleaning the plugged brush, cleaning the table, vacuuming the table) but was a nice addition to the home and enjoyed by all. We hiked up to the top of the mountain and got close up with some local wildlife. I was working in the Okanagan Valley and asked about stocking the fridge a day early (family coming from Alberta) and the owner Gerry invited me to do that and even stay if I wanted, thanks Gerry. We would return without hesitation and if you are looking for a summer getaway from the valley then this is the place, cool at night, wonderfully quiet and a great roomy comfortable house. The drive to town took about 25 minutes which was fine considering the cost of accomodation in Penticton. Thanks again for a great stay.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review. Not sure what happened regarding the vacuum and pool table. We had a cleaner in before you arrived and the pool table should have been cleaned with an unplugged vacuum. Thanks for taking care of it. Hope you saw some nutcrackers among the birds. We are getting more and more reservations in the summer. They come for the quiet and peaceful setting. Hope to see you next year Gerry

Spacious with sub-optimal amenities

  • 2 of 5

Our family stayed at the cabin for 2 nights with family and friends. We were very happy to have an open layout where everyone had more than enough room to relax. However, there were too many amenities that did not function properly or were overlooked and could have been a potentially dangerous scenario. The washing machine kept shutting off half way through cycles, the dishwasher did not properly clean the table wear, and the steep driveway with half frozen pond at the bottom was dangerous. Our toddler could not play outside, as we were concerned he would fall into the huge frozen pond encompassing the entire driveway at the bottom of front doorsteps. There was also no internet as stated by the owners, which was very frustrating since I planned on responding to business emails! I would not recommend this cabin to anyone hoping to enjoy weekend at Apex with family, friends or small children; and would not personally rent the cabin again.

Owner's Response: First let me address the wifi. The renter was right to be upset. We explained to her that we had monitored the dial up modem for over a year and it was not used. Speaking with our customers they preferred to either receive their emails on their phone or else use the hotspot on their phone as a wifi connection to their laptops or tablets. Never the less, we had neglected to remove that feature from our profile and for that we apologize to the renter and have since corrected our profile. I dont know how to react regarding the appliances. We had not had any comments or complaints from previous renters. We have been able to confirm through our cleaner, who launders all the bedding between rentals, that she has not had a problem with it shutting off half way through a wash. I cannot explain the tableware issue with the dishwasher. It can be caused for many reasons, improper stacking, not rinsing, wrong detergent. Between now and the next season we will have all the appliances checked to ensure they are in good working condition, as they have been in the past. It has been a very unusual ski season in all of BC. Fast melts and subsequent freezing. Obviously when snow melts the water accumulates somewhere, our parking lot is one of those places. Normally this would not happen until mid or end of April but this is an unusual year. The parking lot is not the only area for outdoor play, immediately in front of the house, at one side and around the back all provide areas for play, including an area for sledding. I thank the renter for their comments. We strive to make our cabin a place where families and friends can relax and enjoy each other. As you can see from other responses we feel that our cabin provides that atmosphere. Gerry Nuttall

Awesome ski and ski out cabin @ Apex. Our family of seven every minute on and off the hill. The mountain is awesome for all skier types and the cabin is a perfect location and has everything you need for a great vacation! Thank you again.

Apex chalet

  • 4 of 5

Loads of room and beds! Kitchen is adequately outfitted for cooking for a crowd. Lots of cutlery and dishes. Pool table a big hit! Wish we could have adjusted the hot tub temperature. It was quite hot. (We had young children with us, so needed it to be cooler than 103)We could not make the DVD player or VCR player work on any of the TV's even though we followed directions that were posted. (Perhaps the previous renters did something wrong!) That and the too hot hot tub are the reasons for the good rating, rather than excellent. We would definitely rent this property again.

Splendid cabin

  • 5 of 5

We had the best time in this cabin. The area is wonderifull. It has everything you need, fully equiped, in the kitchen and bathrooms. Very spacy, and with an amazing hot tub. The VHS movies are fantastic, lots of clasics. The mountain is great for hikes on the snow, and very close to the sky resort. It is more than you can ever wish for a winter holliday.
