Casa Del Arbol Cantando (“House of the Singing Tree”) is a beautiful 3-bedroom luxury condo on the peaceful Mexican Riviera, less than a 10-minute walk to Playa La Ropa, with a spectacular view of dreamy Zihuatanejo Bay from two terraces, both facing the bay and graced with many lush tropical plants and plenty of outdoor seating.
Completetly renovated by husband & wife designers, this spacious 3 bedroom apartment, with 3.5 baths was crafted by some of the finest local artisans, using rich local woods, handmade terra cotta tile & fine stonework. An exotic Brasil tree dramatically centers the entry stairway, rising up to two floors.
With almost 3,000 square feet, this luxury condo is perfect for 3 couples or a family. The fully-equipped kitchen, with gas stove, has a beautiful view of the foothills of the Sierra Madre Mountains.
There is excellent cross-ventilation and every room has a ceiling fan and air conditioning available. Every bedroom has a king bed with 400-thread count linens and its own bathroom with rain showers & smooth pebble floors.
There is a lovely pool (large enough for laps) fed by a man-made waterfall, off-street parking & 24-hour security.
A truly magical spot in beautiful, peaceful Zihuatanejo.
This is the best time to secure your vacation for next year, while it's still available.

Sherwin & Peg are both semi-retired artists/designers from New York. Sherwin, an art director & graphic designer who came to Zihuatanejo in 2001. He first stayed on La Ropa, then moved over to Las Gatas, where he befriended local legend Owen Lee. Week after week passed and the original return home date was a distant memory. The playwright and poet Anna Della Marina Rego even wrote a play about the experience, called 'The Man Who Failed to Fly,' which has been performed in San Miguel de Allende.
The following year, his future wife Peg (aka Margarita), at the time an interior designer and senior associate at a renowned architectural firm in New York, followed him down to make sure he came home, where she too fell in love with Zihua. (Who doesn't?) It is a magical place that resonates deep within the soul.
Being semi-retired allows Peg & Sherwin more time in their paradise. They've met amazing folks here and continue to expand their circles and be creative. It's been a richly rewarding experience. And the weather!! That word 'Paradise' pops into everyone's vernacular. They love the fact that it is NOT a high rise resort or a Spring Break destination. You will too!
Sherwin & Peg Harris purchased this condo in 2010
With gorgeous views of the Zihuatanejo Bay from the hill on the south end (their favorite) of Playa La Ropa, it is just a short walk from the condo down to the beach and restaurants, and a short cab ride into town ('El Centro') for 50-60 pesos (a little over $3 US). Beautiful, exotic flora & fauna to be found, with hummingbirds, herons, chachalakas, parrots, pelicans, geckos, iguanas, crocodiles (in safe confines) and many many other exotic birds. Lush tropical plants and flowers abound. Mangoes, bananas, papayas grow all around. Heaven!
My family of 6 just returned from this lovely condo where we spent a fabulous week over the holidays. We all had a fabulous time from the moment we arrived. We were greeted at the condo on our arrival with beer in the fridge and fresh guacamole and salsa along with a fruit platter. We were able to enjoy this on the fabulous deck overlooking La Ropa Beach.
The entire condo is a delight. There is lovely artwork throughout as well as exquisite stonework in the floors and ensuite. There are also gorgeous plants in the condo as well as on the decks creating an oasis of green.
The furniture was comfortable as were the king size beds.
The walk to the beach was about 10 minutes and very manageable although due to the climb home and the heat a dip in the refreshingly cool pool was appreciated on our return.
JoseLouis was the driver Sherwin hooked us up with to pick us up from the airport. He was a knowledgable and friendly man who also acted as a local guide. We booked a couple of excursions with him including an afternoon of kayaking in a nature reserve where the bird watching was spectacular. He also drove us out to a local beach for an afternoon of surfing.
We all loved our week in Zihuatanejo and could not have chosen a better spot to be. Thanks Sherwin and Peg!
Beautiful condo with all the amenities and then some. The view is exceptional day and night. Staff is very accommodating and helpful, the condo is very clean and tastefully decorated. We always had a nice ocean breeze or used the ceiling fans or air conditioners to stay comfortable. WiFi and in house stereo was appreciated and used daily...we had an exceptional stay.
The beach was a short hike and the pool area was real close. The only caution I would add is if you have bad knees or hips...there are stairs to climb in the Punta Marina complex. If using a cane or crutches your vacation will seem long
We would highly recommend this property for a beautiful, relaxing vacation getaway.
This little gem was a great find! The condo is beautiful and spacious, even for the 6 adults that we had in our group. The kitchen was well equipped cooking in. The beds were all very comfortable, the view was spectacular, the terraces were both lush little tropical paradises loaded with plants and comfortable lounge furniture. The pool on the property is also a nice option for some sun if you don't feel like going all the way down to the beach. We walked down to Playa Ropa twice each day (the semi steep climb back up which included stairs was embraced as a hall pass for drinking extra margaritas!), and it takes less than 10 minutes. But the few times we decided to take a taxi and go into town, it was only about 50 pesos each way. Once we took at panga from Playa Ropa to the Zihuatanejo marina (right downtown), which was less than a 10 min boat ride, and I think it was 40 pesos per person.
We took a long walk to a grocery store the first morning, just because we felt like walking, then came back in a taxi, which was 70 pesos (right now, about $5 USD).
There were only two small hick-ups. One was that there was some road construction on the main road, which caused some traffic when driving, and a taxi driver told me the construction is expected to take another 3 months. The other was that for some reason (probably hair dryer combined with AC), we tripped the breaker for the hot water. We realized it and called the property manager, and it was a fast and easy fix.
The entire experience was VERY convenient, and very comfortable. I definitely recommend this beautiful place!
We've just returned from Casa del Abrol Cantando and our hearts remain. This is a knock-out beautiful home overlooking the Zihuatanejo Bay. A big space designed with authentic details that continued to surprise and delight us. There are two outdoor patios with lush plants, magical lighting and all a short walk to the beach. Sunsets here are stunning. Sherwin and Peg Harris are wonderful hosts and have created the perfect Mexican respite.
We stayed at Casa Del Arbol Cantando for two weeks and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It's as nice as is depicted in the description and photos. The owners, Sherwin and Peg, are very nice people and were a pleasure to work with in planning our stay at their place. They are both designers and completely renovated the condo when they bought it. The attention to detail and design can be found in every room and outdoor space. Great art throughout!
The three bedrooms are spacious and each has a comfortable bed, built-in desk, ensuite bathroom, A/C, and ceiling fan. There is a new washer/dryer off the half-bath in the hallway. We enjoyed the stereo system and the playlist connected to it. The living areas are comfy and large.
Cooking is something we really enjoy and the large gas range/oven was more than large enough for making dinners for six people. We were never without the proper utensil as the kitchen is fully stocked with everything needed. The refrigerator is also large and the ice maker is fed with bottled water. There is also a bottled water dispenser on the counter.
As for getting food to cook, a quick cab ride to Commercial Mexicana will get you everything needed. There are always cabs there to get home and the fare each way was 50 pesos +/- each way (just over $3 US), excluding tip.
Walk down the hill from the condo and you're at the south end of La Ropa beach. There are many restaurants all along the beach and you can easily walk to the north end of La Ropa in 15 minutes +/-. There are activity vendors on the beach for fishing, wave runners, parasailing, paddleboards, etc. The water is warm and wonderful.
The condo pool is surrounded by tropical foliage and is mostly out of the hot sun in mid-late afternoon - nice and refreshing, especially after being in the hot sun at the beach.
The housekeeper, Gloria, comes often, is very sweet, and does a great job of keeping the condo clean and tidy. Her husband is a taxi driver and she offered to arrange transportation for us. Sherwin stated that Gloria is a fabulous cook. We like to cook ourselves, but if you don't, ask him for details on how to arrange for her to cook for you.
The sum this all up, we would definitely like to come back to this place!
By Zihua style, I mean beautiful view, nice indoor/outdoor access and everything that goes with it. Everything in the listing description is accurate. Place is huge and terraces are great. The service from Sherwin was impeccable, and I would has no hesitation recommending this to friends. Because it was rainy season (which we like) and so hot and humid, activities limited to walking the town, shopping and eating. Sherwin has prepared a great guide to town and we dedicated ourselves to eating thru his restaurant list [we have been to Zihua about 15 times but were many we had not tried]. Bottom line, if he likes it, you will like it. Won't tell you our two favourites because even in low season (and September is DEAD) they were full. We are going to shamelessly steal some of the décor ideas that you do not realize are simple but great until someone else has done it. We used the driver Luis recommended and service was just great. Can't wait to get back to the area.
Zihuatanejo is a charming fishing village at the base of the foothills of the Sierra Madres, that has become a highly desired tourist destination in the Mexican Riviera. The pace is still leisurely, but there is plenty to do, if that is your desire. Golf, tennis, biking, sailing, sport fishing, water skiing, jet skiing, parasailing, horseback riding are but a sampling of the activities, although most are always drawn back to the beach. Casa del Arbol Cantando at Punta Marina Condominiums is about a 5 to 10 minute walk to Playa La Ropa, our most beautiful beach, and just around the corner from the treasured Playa Las Gatas, where there is snorkeling and scuba diving available.
This year, our paradise has hosted the Zihua Sailfest, the Zihuatanejo International Guitar Festival, the Food & WIne Festival in Ixtapa Zihuatanejo as well as colorful local carnivals & other festivities.
