A house with history, a house with a future, a house you won't soon forget. The main house is a piece of real Americana, a 1901 'Montgomery Ward kit house,' whose near-twin stands across the street from ours. A garage added much later in the 20th century was later converted into a cottage, which greatly expands the possibilities of the whole property. Guests can rent just the house, just the cottage (HomeAway # 3805103) or both together if they're coming with a bigger party. Both structures have their own entrances and their own driveways (the cottage is accessible from Piney Road), and guests can come and go without disturbing one another. Both feature completely modernized and re-conceptualized kitchens and dining areas (work completed in the spring of 2014), while the cottage also got a brand-new bathroom. The house has a deck and a screened porch for enjoying the morning paper or an evening sundowner, while the cottage has a brick patio under an elegant white pergola. Both houses have access to a shared Weber three-zone gas grill. Both structures have cozy interiors that combine new and classic elements into a harmonic whole. Every vacation should offer the vacationer ample opportunity to get that rest s/he so richly deserves, and you will find all the bedrooms beckoning you to sink between the sheets. Younger kids will enjoy the bunk beds or the sleep loft in the main house, and don't forget there is a crib for the smallest ones -- with a convenient changing table -- in the master suite (but not in the same room with Mom and Dad!). Finally, let's not forget Cotuit's uncrowded beaches (that convey that 'private' feel), nor should we forget the shopping and dining opportunities at Mashpee Common, or, for that more everyday mix, at the intersection of Route 28 and Putnam Avenue.
(The two houses at 129 School Street are magnificent. Both are decorated tastefully and offer full comfort. The patio area is a very pleasant place to spend a long evening. The property is definitely kid-friendly, something which is greatly appreciated! A very pretty beach is within walking distance. We had a dream vacation here!
We stayed here in late August, 2016 for a week. Three adults and three children (8, 5, 3) and the house accommodated everyone well. The property and grounds are in great condition - lots of beautiful flowers - the owners really have done an excellent job updating and maintaining the property. The kitchen is modern, bright, nice and big and was perfect for cooking regular meals and serving a large group. The location is excellent. It's a 2 minute to drive to Loop Beach, a nice little beach in Cotuit. It's about 20-25 minutes to Kalmus beach in Hyannis or Woodneck beach in Falmouth - our other 2 favorite stomping grounds. Cotuit itself is a nice, quiet village in Cape Cod. There's not a ton to do there, but if you're looking for the quintessential seaside, Cape Cod experience, it's perfect, and you're only 10-20 minutes from plenty of good attractions in Mashpee/Hyannis/Falmouth. I'd recommend the property and will probably stay there again in the future. Also, the owners are nice, responsive, and very easy/pleasant to deal with.
We have stayed at the Everhart's home for the past two summers in July and have enjoyed the property and location. The property has wonderful character with a very pleasant atmosphere and a panache of a French flavor. The screened in porch is a must in the evening for a glass of wine, a good book and playing games with the family. The gardens and backyard are very private and filled with colorful flowers and gardens. The backyard is spacious and private and complimented our annual family oyster feast. Location is an A+ as you are just a short walk from the Kettle Ho; local restaurant and watering hole and the village market "Cotuit Market"; (aka...The Coop) is less than a half mile pleasant The library and gardens are just 3/10th of a mile away as well. Just a great property and location for a family vacation.
Elegant, historic Cotuit is one of the Cape's best-kept secrets: if you want to avoid the traffic crush of Route 28 with its endless succession of tourist traps, if you truly want to relax, consider Cotuit. It has everything you think a Cape town should have, in an elegant and stately setting. There is a string of small beaches down the east side of the peninsula (on Cotuit Bay), while larger beaches are quickly reached by car. 10 miles in either direction and you're at the Steamship Authority ferries in Wood's Hole (Martha's Vineyard) and Hyannis (Nantucket). Ready to shop? Trendy Mashpee Common features a wide mix of name-brand chains and boutiques. A more traditional mall awaits you in Hyannis. 10 miles to the northwest, in Sandwich, don't miss the Glass Factory or Heritage Museum and Plantation.
