About Robert Whitson

I grew up here in the Shenandoah Valley, We raised a family of six and now growing with Grand kids! We love cooking, gardening and all that the valley has to offer, we are avid antique collectors and love the local wineries.

Why Robert Whitson chose Virginia

We bought this house as new empty nesters, we did a complete renovation and lived here full time for many years, we love it! Robert was a avid hunter and his trophy mounts are displayed in this home, Robert designed the house to be family friendly with kitchen, dining & living room to allow for 15 or more people to dine and converse opening onto the deck of over 600sqft surrounded in flowers. the entire front of the house is glass with lovely views of the ski slope in the winter and a tree house in the summer. The home is appointed with a fine kitchen with granite counter tops, teak and sugar maple flooring as well as a stone fireplace. The master suite and balcony have natural views with beautiful wood beams and ceilings for warm and comfortable romance. The master suite is appointed with its own master bath, Large screen TV and walk in closet.

What makes this chalet unique

The deck is a special spot to gather, cook, listen to good music & enjoy nature year around.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I want to thank you for the opportunity to stay at your lovely home my friends and I had a BLAST! It was a great retirement get away for me after serving 21 years in the Navy and I would definitely stay there again. Everyone commented on how well stock the house was down to simple hygiene items. We did the mountain bike trails for the first time and ugh yeah a new found respect for the sport but very fun! Please keep me posted on availability dates for this winter we will love to come down again.

Amazing property and even better owners!

  • 5 of 5

The home is amazing, comfortable and the views are unmatched. Very clean and perfect location to the mountain. The only negative about this home is choosing with your party who gets the amazing master bedroom upstairs :)!

Well appointed, accurate summary

  • 4 of 5

Met all my expectations.

Lots of stuffed deer/elk heads if that kind of thing freaks you out.

I'll second the comment of the one reviewer who found the lack of drawer handles strange.

Deck was really nice--we ate out there one night.

Good value--I feel like I paid a fair price and got good value.

Wonderful place to stay at Bryce!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at High Mountain Chalet for 2 nights over Valentine's Weekend. We chose Bryce because it was the most kids friendly ski resort in the area (and it really was!) after exhaustive research and then we searched for the perfect house. The house needed to fit 4 adults, 5 kids (ages 3-9) very comfortably- and this house did just that and more! The kitchen has everything you need (even some of those extras that you forget to bring, like sugar for your coffee!)- the master on the upper level is magnificent! The owners are very responsive, which is very important. You can't go wrong with this house- unfortunately we did not get to use the deck - Sunday was 20+ mph winds and freezing, but it looks great! We will be back!

Great retreat away from the city life

  • 4 of 5

Great experience right from the beginning! No detail was left out and my guest and i felt like we were at "our" own home. The highlight was the massive deck that accommodated my party of six but could have easily held more. The owners provided everything from charcoal for the gril to laundry detergent. The resort activities were a short half mile drive if that, with the lake being an additional mile. If I have to list cons it would be from my girlfriend's perspective being that she's into interior design that the cabinets didn't have handles to open …she said the moisture from your hands would damage the cherry wood and no garbage disposal. The massive wall of windows provided plenty of natural light and huge flat screen tv that the guys could catch a quick glance at the game in between conversation :-) . Loved it had blast and will definitely be back.
