About Ryan Baker

I'm a self employed business owner that purchased this home back in 2007. I loved to go up to the mountains three or four times a year to get away from the city. It's serene, quiet, and has a beautiful surround! Please take advantage of it!

Ryan Baker purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Ryan Baker chose Big Bear

Living in the city can be quite loud at times so the location of our place is SUPER QUIET! I've fixed it up so pets can enjoy this place, as well. If you love to Snowboard & Ski this is the spot! Just far enough away from traffic and close enough to the slopes, as well as many restaurants that you can visit in the mountain!

What makes this cabin unique

RELAXATION & COMFORT! Sometimes it's so quiet that you can here the house creek at night, The wind howling through the trees, & the critters running around in the neighborhood!

Nice place but lots of bugs thru torn/ill-fitting screens

  • 4 of 5

These are basic accomdations, but for the price that should be expected. The house is fairly clean...not perfect...but again, consider the price point. We had a great time...there was a wildfire in the area and we had rolling blackouts and 90+ highs so we did a lot of "camp living," but that's obviously not at all the fault of the accommodations, and we considered it our family "adventure." The number one issue is the bugs. The screens on the windows need to be replaced -- bugs get inside thru the tears and areas where the screens don't quite fit right. During the hot summer the windows all need to be left open so there's no choice but to let the bugs in and just spend your time with the swatter trying to get as many as you can. Makes for a rough time doing basics like sleeping, eating, showering etc. If not for the bugs, I'd say this is a great little place to use as home base...has everything you could need to make for a nice getaway--linens, wifi, games, charcoal grill, comfy beds, etc. Since bugs aren't really an issue in winter months this would make for the perfect ski cabin. Just a bit rough for a summer cabin bc of the screens. Fix the screens? Five stars for sure!!! Thanks for sharing your home. We love Big Bear and can't wait to return!

Not so nice and far from Big Bear

  • 3 of 5

This home needs some TLC. Chipped paint on the shower enclosure. Mostly dated decor including cabinetry, flooring and outdoor furniture. It is 25 minutes from downtown Big Bear. One positive, the owner was quite responsive and accommodating.

Great location great property!

  • 4 of 5

Stayed for Labor Day weekend 2016. Great location, about 2 minutes from an awesome trailhead for hiking. We've stayed in Sugarloaf before and we absolutely love this are. There is a small general store and a bar and restaurant that is walking distance from the property. The views are really nice and the neighborhood is tranquil. All of the pictures are accurate as well as the descriptions. The only reason I wouldn't give it a 5 star rating is because we had 7 light bulbs go out within the first 2 hours of being on the property. We replaced all of them but it was inconvenient. Also, the dining table is only 4 seats and it is extremely small at that. There were no other available chairs to use at the table which was irritating. We only had 6 of us so while our sleeping accomodations were adequate trying to have a family meal was difficult. There are plenty of board games and the cable is not bad. We had a few ants in the kitchen when we got here as well, we got some spray and they didn't return. The house was really clean and I would definitely recommend to people I know.

Perfect for our little family!

  • 4 of 5

We (me, husband, baby, toddler, and dog) stayed in this cabin for 5 nights and really enjoyed it! The pictures and reviews were accurate. I always appreciate detailed reviews so I will try to do the same here ...

Cons:

- I don't think the cleaning company did a thorough job. Luckily I found the vacuum and was able to vacuum the entire downstairs. It looked as if they quickly swept the floors and that was all. Normally, I wouldn't be too bothered by this, but I have a crawler who puts everything in her mouth so clean floors are a must.

- There were old used sponges in the kitchen sink. Personally I don't want to wash dishes with an old sponge that another stranger used on who knows what.

PROS:

- loved the bedrooms upstairs! Carpeted (these looked cleaned...I didn't see any dog hair from previous renters).

- the master bed was very very comfortable!!!!!! It was so nice to have the door opened to the balcony in the mornings.

- the 2nd bedroom worked perfectly for our toddler and had plenty of room for the baby's pack and play

- being able to do a load of laundry while we were there was another huge plus

- 5 minutes to town. 10-15 minutes to the Village

- We had difficulty with the WiFi, but the problem was quickly fixed. Ryan, the owner, responded very quickly to my texts about this and did everything he could to help us.

- quiet neighborhood

All in all a great place to stay at a fabulous price. We would stay here again...maybe in the winter next time :)
