Bridgton House Rental Photos and Description

3 Br/2 Ba With View Of Shawnee Peak With Moose Pond, Pool & Tennis Access.

This house has all you need for a great vacation. A stone's throw from Shawnee Peak Ski Resort with a view of Pleasant Mountain from the front yard. Knights Hill association privileges in the fenced in large lap pool with restrooms and a clubhouse with pool and ping-pong tables. Tennis Courts too! Beach rights to scenic Moose Pond for swimming, kayaking and fishing. Pond even has an old-fashioned diving float. House has two kayaks and a 2 seater Old Town canoe that can be rented separately and are locked on a rack at Moose Pond so no transporting required. Shawnee Peak Ski resort offers a Lodge, restaurant and ski lessons & rental and is just 5 minutes form the house. Other nearby ski resorts are Cranmore (N. Conway, NH) and King Pine (E. Madison, NH). King Pine has great night tubing and a lodge with fireplace. Downtown Bridgton has restaurants and take-out and a nearly new three screen movie theatre (Magic Lantern) with a state of the art sound system. Take a day trip to the Kangamagus highway for hiking, picnicking and not to be missed a ride on the rapids and natural jacuzzi sitting under the waterfalls at Lower Falls. Also recommend a day trip into Portland, Maine for shopping downtown at LL Bean, ethnic cuisine, and a romp through the Portland Museum of Art that boasts Rockwell Kent, Winslow Homer, Andrew Wyeth and the works of numerous famous impressionists through surrealists (Monet, Magritte, Degas,Cassatt, Renoir, etc.). Portland now has daily train service to Southern, NH and Boston for another idea for a day trip with stops in Old Orchard Beach, ME & Dover, and Exeter, NH among others (Google AMTRAK 'Downeaster'). So much to do in the area!

About Noreen Thompsen

Tom grew up with the Mountains of Utah and I grew up on the North Shore of MA so we both learned to ski and love to be near mountains. I spent countless picnics and cookouts at Lower Falls on the Kangamagus Highway and loved the natural massage of the waterfalls beating on my back as a kid. Our kids learned to ski at King Pine and a favorite activity when you don't feel like skiing is the night tubing there with music and the old J-Bar ski lifts that drag you up the mountain on your ski tube. The staff at King Pine offer to 'spin' your tube when they give you a push down the mountain. A follow-up Hot Chocolate at the Lodge is the perfect coda. Kayaking and swimming are also favorite activities and the view at Moose Pond is spectacular. Living on Cape Cod now after 12 years in NH we still miss the beautiful fall foliage of Maine and NH so hope to get up there more for our fix.

Why Noreen Thompsen chose Western Maine

It offered everything we needed--I am a lap swimmer so the pool was a plus and the kayak storage on Moose Pond makes an impromptu paddle an easy access. Skiing at shawnee, Cranmore and King Pine as well as night tubing is another plus. Mountains, Ponds, hiking, the Kangamagus Highway--so much to do in all of the seasons.

What makes this house unique

We loved the big table in the dining/kitchen area and the bar stools around the kitchen counter. The deck with slider off the kitchen with charcoal grill makes for great cookouts too. The Living Room has two sofas for a game of scrabble or good conversation. Having two baths and 3 BR's (1 Queen/1 Queen/ 2 Twins) makes this a great space for two couples to share for a fun filled getaway. The large rectangular pool is perfect for serious lap swimming and tennis lovers should pack their rackets!

Perfect First Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

The house is exactly as the listing described. Location was very easy to get to, and the directions were spot on, no trouble at all. House was clean, spacious, and fit our needs perfectly. Kitchen was well stocked with all essential items and we cooked in most nights. The house was very well maintained, updated, and the lawn even got mowed while we were there. Tom and Noreen were beyond accommodating and kept in constant communication with us. They sent us a very detailed email before our arrival explaining things to do in the area, how to get into the house, and all other pertinant information for our stay. Luckily we didn't need to contact them for anything while we were there, but I'm confident if we needed something they would have been more than happy to oblige. I would absolutely recommend this listing to family and friends. It is definitely off the beaten path and it's perfect if you're looking for a non conventional vacation close to nature. We drove to the coast a few days (over an hour away) but it was rainy so it was a perfect opportunity to explore. On the sunny days, we rented kayaks from the shop right around the corner, visited the private lake and community pool. All were clean and well maintained. We didn't eat out much, but one notable restaurant was the place we stopped for breakfast on our way out, Beth's Kitchen Cafe. Right in downtown Bridgton, easy to get to, and the food was incredible! As was our entire experience in Maine, everyone was just unbelieveably friendly and the food was great. We had a great time and I imagine this would be a great place to stay in the winter due to it's proximity to the mountains. Tom and Noreen have other rentals available on Cape Cod, and I plan on booking with them in that location as well!

Bridgton ME

  • 4 of 5

The house was pretty and had everything we needed. The house was spacious as there were 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. There is a full kitchen and a dining room. The plow truck came to plow when it snowed. The house was probably less than a 5 minute drive to Shawnee Peak. I would recomend the property to anyone looking to ski Shawnee peak. We had a great time.
