Designed and hand built by Bryan Tedrick, the Moon House is a sculptural jewel situated in the heart of historic Glen Ellen. Uniquely curvilinear in form, this intimate space is an ideal location for adventuring in the Valley of the Moon.
Restaurants, a gourmet grocery, and the Jack London Saloon are within one block of the Moon House. Take walks in the neighborhood’s regional and state parks and peruse Jack London’s Beauty Ranch. Wineries abound and the Sonoma Mission at the Sonoma Plaza is just 15 minutes away.

Bryan Tedrick and I have two children, Nathalie, 29, and Jake, 26. I retired in 2013 after teaching at the local middle school for many years. Currently, I am working as an education consultant in the Valley. Bryan is a sculptor, working on his latest Burning Man commission. If you would like to see more of Bryan's work, check out his web site.
Bryan also designed and built the Moon House.
We purchased the property in 1990.
Terry Roberts purchased this house in 1990
Although Bryan and I both grew up in the Bay Area, we always loved visiting the wine country - both the Napa and the Sonoma Valleys. After our daughter, Nathalie, was born, we decided that it was time to move away from the city and settle in a more rural area. We picked Glen Ellen for our home because we love the small town feel, yet it has all the conveniences of a larger city...our fabulous grocery store is just down the street, along with some terrific restaurants within walking distance. (Not to mention, my bank, my post office, and my hairdresser).
We chose the specific location of our home and the Moon House because we are in the heart of the Sonoma Valley. Our home, and the Moon House, are on our quiet little street...but not far from the center of town.
We spent a relaxing long weekend at the delightful Moon House. It was very quiet, private, and peaceful. The kitchen was well equipped, and the small aerial reading area was a great place to sit and write on a raining afternoon. The rest of the house was clean and we really enjoyed its style and decoration. The overall design of the house gave a feeling of spaciousness and freedom. Terry's warm welcome and the invitation to visit Bryan's studio were much appreciated. One couldn't ask for a more convenient location in the center of the wine country. We look forward to our next stay ...
The photos do not do this place justice - it must be experienced! The village of Glen Ellen feels like it's off the beaten path (in a good way), but it's just a short drive away from Sonoma and Napa. There are wineries, restaurants, bars, shops, and a beautiful park, all within walking distance. If/when I return to the area, I will stay here again.
Staying at the Moon House is an experience within itself. Every detail of the home is a detailed work of art. Glen Ellen is a great base camp to explore Napa Valley. 10x better than the more expensive hotel we stayed at in Sonoma. Thanks Terri and Bryon.
My wife and I could not have found a more perfect place for our stay in Sonoma County, and our stay was incredible. Not only did the Moon House have its own amazing architectural beauty that made the stay unique, but Terry (the owner) took care of all of the "little" things -- very nice cookware, paper towels and a new sponge for dish cleaning, detergent for laundry, olive oil/spices/grilling tools for cooking, etc. -- that are generally not offered in a rental and made our stay feel much more like home.
Beyond the Moon House itself, Glen Ellen had a quaint, village-like feel to it that made it our preferred place to stay (compared to, say, Sonoma and/or Santa Rosa). The town was quiet, and everything (including a great grocery store and two nice restaurants) was all within walking distance.
All in all, we could not have asked for more. And we will be staying at the Moon House again.
We stayed in Glen Ellen at the Moon House the third week of June, 2016. We loved it! It's located within easy walking distance to several good restaurants and a great gourmet grocery store. Glen Ellen is a small town located in the heart of the Sonoma Valley. Sonoma's nightlife is a 15 minute drive and hundreds of great wineries are, also.
As a host, Terry has thought of everything you will need to enjoy your stay. She is nearby, just in case you need something. The bed is great, you will sleep well. Linens are high quality and the kitchen is state of the art. There are many more utensils than I have in my home! You'll find fresh flowers and a good bottle of wine waiting for you when you arrive.
We will definitely stay at the Moon House on our next visit to Wine Country. Thanks, Terry!

Never having stayed in Sonoma previously, we tried to choose a location that was central yet a bit off the beaten path. Glen Ellen and the Moon House provided that quite well. The convenience of walking to some fine restaurants and the unique Village Market made the stay much more enjoyable, as we otherwise spent a lot of time in the car. The house was very unique and exactly as the pictures suggested. Our hosts were accessible and helpful whenever we called upon them.
If your plans, as ours, involved visiting larger regions of the County, then Glen Ellen may be a bit out of the way. By mid-week we were a bit tired of being in the car. Conversely, if you want to marinate in a small locale, with reasonable options (food, wine, hiking, crafts) then Glen Ellen is a god choice.
We were attending a wedding at the park at Jack London Park and wanted to be close to the wedding site...and did not want to pay the $300 plus hotels were asking. Upon finding this property on VRBO we thought it could be a great find...boy were we right!
Upon first driving up to the house we were a little skeptical due to the auto business across the street...and the house looked sorta scary....but then we opened the door...! Crazy fun..clean as a whistle...everything you could possibly want for your time there. Great bed...thank goodness...great bathroom...great air conditioner...and up a spiral staircase a very cool balcony to sit on, drink a glass of wine and look either to the view or into the very cool house.
Terry, the owner, was great...the house is a find...Glen Ellen is a fun little town with great restaurants and a super good breakfast place. The park is beautiful and if you are a hiker you will love it!
We will return someday and for sure stay in this artist studio again....xo
