About The Owner

Gene & Clara have lived in this area all their lives. They moved away early in their marriage to pursue careers and then the beauty of this area called them home. In the mid 90's Gene found this unique property and began a project that spanned several years, of creating a home that the whole family has enjoyed. He used many local craftsmen to help him create a work of art including a huge expansive stacked stone fireplace that produces a warmth that engulfs the whole house. These last few years, they have decided to share their special spot with others. If you're able to come here for a visit, you might catch one of them putting the finishes touches on things. We hope you'll be able to come for a visit and enjoy the hot tub on a cool Fall morning or sit in front of the warm fire and watch the snow fall!

The Owner purchased this house in 1998

Why The Owner chose Green Mountain

The natural beauty of the area is unmatched, and the house is unique

As GREAT as advertised

  • 5 of 5

The locations was fabulous. Outside there are many special additions, including an outdoor charcoal pit that could hold 8-10 steaks. Inside had everything that you could possibly need. It was much cleaner than most rentals we have stayed in. The owners were great to work with. They changed our dates 3 times due to weather. We were only able to stay one day due to a death in the family but we will certainly be back. Highly recommend.

A little slice of heaven

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful and restful home! We fell in love with this charming home and long range views of spectacular mountains!! My morning cups of coffee never were so enjoyable. The house has everything you need to enjoy your stay. If you want for anything, it’s a short and gorgeous drive down the mountain to Erwin . There are so many cozy places and comfortable pieces of furniture in this home, I bounced all over the house finding new favorite spots to read or nap. Our dog, Angus, loved his week of being a country dog and running around on the property. We had an opportunity to meet Gene and Clara and spend some time with these toro amazing people. They were even kind enough to babysit Angus for us one day. Thanks for letting us take off into the mountains to ride our motorcycles without worrying about our boy. For those who ride, the road the house is on is a great ride! It is also connected to highway 197 which is an awesome ride as well. You can also loop down to highway 19E and ride back up Hwy 19W to Erwin. Motorcycles or not, eberyone will enjoy this picturesque scenery! As I told Clara, anyone who isn’t happy at The Roundhouse must just generally be unhappy! 😋? Not only do we want to come back, we are looking for our own getaway here we so enjoyed ourselves.’ Thanks for sharing your home and making us feel so welcome! We are so sorry to say goodbye to you, your hone and this part of the world.

Solitude and Peace indeed!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a month at the Round House recently. We enjoyed ourselves immensely. The house is nicely appointed and unique in design. The views are amazing; with the wrap around decks one can enjoyed them from sun or shade at any time of the day. Gene and Clara were wonderful hosts. It was a joy to chat with them. We hope to visit this lovely property again.

North Carolina Motorcycle Trip

  • 5 of 5

This was our third trip to the mountains for Harley riding and our stay at the Round House was a great choice. Located just over the TN / NC border we had access to some great riding roads. Devil's Whip (Hwy 80S), Diamondback(Hwy 226A) and the Blue Ridge Parkway are all just a few miles away and the roads getting there (Hwy 197) are almost as good. Be sure to include Mt. Mitchell, Roan Mountain, Burnsville and Little Switzerland on your rides.

The Round House was well equipped and spacious for the 4 of us. Plenty of pots, pans and utensils , large outdoor gas grill and an open wood/charcoal fire pit for cooking some great steaks. The upper and lower decks allowed us to enjoy our meals, and the view outside even if it was raining. The yard around the house was well maintained and provided ample area to unload our bikes and park our trailer and pickup truck when we rode. The driveway can be a little difficult for motorcycles. It is gravel (pretty well compacted) at about a 25 degree incline with a 90 degree turn half way up. Rather "testy" your first time up or down but you get use to it. Donna, Gene and Claire , the owners, are wonderful people and were very helpful with any questions we had. If Gene happens to stop bye, be sure to spend a few minutes with him. He has some great stories about the area and the local residents.

We loved our stay at the Round House!

Very relaxing.

  • 5 of 5

The home was spacious and had all the necessary amenities. The owners were extremely pleasant and seemed genuinely concerned that we enjoyed our stay.

It was myself, my wife and my elderly mother-in-law. The split level worked out great. It allowed for us to spend time together and yet allowed for my wife and I to have some privacy.

Both levels have a bedroom, bath and living room...each with plenty of comfortable seating and flat screen TV's. The main level has a kitchen and dining area, while the lower level has a fireplace and a washroom with washer and dryer.

For extra sleeping accommodations, the main level has a daybed and the lower level has a futon. Plenty of extra pillows and blankets if needed. The Jacuzzi is on the lower deck, and the large gas grill is on the upper deck.

Even in June the temperature was cool and comfortable. Rabbits and Turkeys roamed the property. We had rain half the time which allowed us to sit under the covered deck and enjoy the misty mountain views. There is also a trail behind the home that allows for some exploring.

The cabin is a little isolated, yet grocery, pharmacy, gas stations and restaurants are only about 15 minutes away in Erwin. For larger city needs...Johnson City is about 30 minutes away.

I was a little concerned about not having good cell service but they provide excellent Wi-Fi, so I was able to use Wi-Fi calling on my cell phone to make and receive calls. They also provide a cordless phone for use if needed. We had no issues when connecting my laptop or my wife's iPad to the internet.

The overall price value for the accommodations was excellent and made for a very affordable and enjoyable vacation. We were certainly a little disappointed when our stay at the Round House came to an end. Even one of our dogs didn't want to leave and needed some additional coaxing to get her into our van.

We have absolutely no reservations in recommending this unique home to anyone considering it for their vacation stay. You will not be disappointed.
