I'm an Airline Captain for the worlds largest Global Airline.
Michael Hill / Greg Gibbs purchased this townhome in 2002
I moved to Anchorage, Alaska because of my employment with the Airlines.
My wife and I were lucky to find this affordable rental, during the busy summer season in Anchorage. The condo was found to be clean and in the exact condition as it was advertised. The best part of our business deal with Michael was his prompt reply via text or phone call, to answer any questions we had. Throughout all of our communications, I don’t believe I had to wait any more than an hour for a response.
I had some friends over for the big UFC fight on one of our nights, thanks to Michael. I say thanks to Michael, because he had no problem personally calling DirecTV and placing the order for us. We gladly paid for the fight, but it would not have been possible had he not taken time to call for us.
Michael also offered us an excellent daily rate on his Dodge Durango. This helped us to save plenty of money!
Overall, if you are looking for a reasonable price on a rental, I would highly recommend checking into Michael’s properties. I’m not sure why some have offered such low reviews. If the battery in the ceiling fan remote dies, would you expect the owner to send an electrician out? That was comical…
The only good comment I can make about this rental is the price. Summer hotel rates can be outrageous, so when I saw this, I took a chance. The condo is located between the highway and a major roadway, the neighborhood is less than desirable. There were derelict cars in the parking lot, with flat tires and filled with rubbish. The dumpsters in the neighborhood were overflowing with trash. The condo is in need of a thorough cleaning, but at least the sheets and towels were clean. The box spring and mattress in one bedroom were on the floor, the carpets and floors weren't clean. The kitchen is stocked with ample appliances, there does seem to be central ac, but it was so loud and so hot in the unit that it didn't seem to work. Because it was so hot, we slept with all the upstairs windows open and fans on high. In the early morning, we called 911 to report gunshots in the vicinity.
Needless to say, we will not recommend this rental.
The property was okay. Noisy neighborhood. The linens could use an update. Sheets and towels were very old. Pillows were terrible! Televisions in bedroom were not connected-no cable or satellite. Strictly for show. Living room had no overhead lighting . Two lamps were very dim. When the remote for the bedroom fan didn't work I contacted property owner and was told to buy a battery and I would get reimbursed. Definitely not the response I expected. I've used VRBO in the past and have had much better experiences. I would not rent this property again. However, I would use VRBO again because of my other experiences.
We rented one of the two bedroom townhouses (9851 C) from Michael for a week. We paid him directly through my credit card, instead of through VRBO, which was unusual, but worked out fine. A few days before we arrived, we contacted one of the people in the townhouse complex (Doug) to arrange pickup of the keys. We never actually met Michael or Doug in person, which was unusual, but also worked out fine.
Location of the townhouse was great. It's in the south end, with easy access to the Seward highway, and about 5 minutes from the beautiful scenery south of Anchorage. It is in a residential area, with lots of other townhouses, homes, businesses, etc. We were close to the Dimond Center Mall, and lots of shops and restaurants. Anchorage is quite spread out, so you need to do a lot of driving to get anywhere.
Parking at the townhouse was fine. There is a lot just off the street with room for six cars. The townhouse had everything we needed. Main floor has the living room and kitchen. Living room has two couches plus a large TV. The kitchen is fully stocked with every gadget you can think of. Upstairs has two bedrooms and a bathroom. Bedrooms are large, comfortable, and have ceiling fans, which surprisingly we needed because it was actually hot the week we were there. It would be nicer if the bedrooms had black-out curtains, since it is hard to sleep when it is light all night.
Overall I would recommend this townhouse. We've stayed in much fancier places through VRBO, but this townhouse definitely met our needs, and we were mostly only there to sleep. Price and location were right. And Alaska is magnificent!!!
First time using VRBO and very impressed with this property. I immediately felt right at home. The location was perfect for our Christmas vacation from Dubai. Very clean and had everything we needed. Mike and Doug were super with great communication and even helped out with some UPS deliveries during that time. I would certainly rent from Mike again and highly recommend this property to anyone traveling to the Anchorage area. 5 Star!
We spent 10 nights here over the Christmas holiday. It was so great to have a home-like place for holidays away. We set up a little tree and felt comfortable from the start! The location is excellent – easy to the highway, downtown, anywhere. The apartment was clean and well furnished with everything you could need in the kitchen, laundry room, etc. Beds were very comfortable, and we were glad to have the inflatable mattress for a girls’ sleepover. I cannot think of anything else that could have been included to make our trip better. Thanks for the great service and accommodations. We would recommend this unit, or any from these owners, based on our experience.
