Ricardo Cuevas purchased this apartment in 2011
Jalatlaco is one of those places that continue to keep its charm almost secretly. Despite the apparent closeness to the historic center of Oaxaca City 10 minutes walk, anyone can wander the cobblestone streets of this small colony and immediately feel the calm that surrounds him. The secret of this calm is that most of its buildings are inhabited by villagers, only a few have been conditioned for guest house, hotel or restaurant. Inside the Barrio de Jalatlaco you can visit the Temple of San Matías Jalatlaco.
La casa Del Barrio is in a great location, everything is easily reached, historic downtown, markets, autobus terminal, you can walk to many places in a few minutes, or take a cab at $3 the single trip. La casa Del Barrio is a quiet place and peaceful, It is private all yours to enjoy. No other guest just for you, it’s a great place to enjoy Oaxaca and have all the conveniences like Wi-Fi Internet, Cable TV, full kitchen and everything to make your stay wonderful.
If you like to walk, this apartment is in a terrific location: walking distance (within 10 blocks) of Santo Domingo church and the Alcala shopping street, lovely El Llano park (where there's always something going on), the Becari language school (if you want to brush up on your Spanish), and many restaurants. There's a cheap breakfast place at the end of the street, and some good local eateries (such as El Biche Pobre and Tipico) toward the park as well as behind La Merced markat. There's also a fantastic new playground near the baseball stadium, which our toddler adored.
Ricardo was very helpful, letting us check in early, keeping us stocked with jugs of drinking water, providing directions to the nearest laundromat, and arranging a taxi to our next destination. He lives on the top floor of the three-story house, so he's easy to get hold of if anything comes up.
The apartment met our needs, and the hammock was a great bonus. The only negatives are that the apartment feels smaller and darker than it looks in the pictures and isn't as clean as one might like. The cleaners (who came once during our stay) don't do a very good job: They leave hair and dirt on the floors, dust on the tables, and grime in the corners of the showers. That might not bother some people, but if you're a clean freak, this isn't the place for you. With residents above and below the apartment and other houses close by, the place can also get noisy. But in my experience, that's true anywhere in the city.
Perfect, affordable home for a short or long stay in a world class Mexican city. The apartment is charmingly decorated with all essential services, Internet, cable TV, well stocked kitchen, three bathroom/showers, patio/garden and secure parking. No need for a car as Casa del Barrio is within easy walking distance of "downtown," Zocalo, museums, health clinics, neighborhood restaurants and anything you want to do locally. Ricardo is gracious host, helpful with suggestions, answering questions in English and/or Spanish. He made my stay especially memorable by becoming a running partner, showing me various routes around the city and even registering me for a half-marathon. I will be back!
We stayed at Casa Barrio for 10 days. Its in a very good location and walking distance to everything in town. Markets or small groceries all nearby. Tv -wifi-5 gallon jug of water provided. Ricardo the owner was very nice and really helped us out when we had questions. Big kitchen and refrigerator. Water heater for the 2 showers and a hairdryer. A very clean abode. We loved Oaxaca -our first trip there.
All the comforts of home within walking distance of all the action. Comfortable, clean and bright. We enjoyed this place very much. Our host was extremely accommadating and helpful. Highly recommended.
Stayed for a week in mid March and absolutely loved this home. It is very comfortable, walking distance to all major areas of Oaxaca and the Owner extremely accommodating and helpful.
I strongly recommend this place! A must stay and a definite return for us! Thank you!
We are 5 friends who enjoyed this charming "casa" for the month of Jqnuary 2015. The location in the barrio of Jalatlaco is very close to Oaxaca's historic district. The Zocolo, several parks, Santo Domingo Church, art galleries, coffee shops, restaurants, small tiendas, la Merced market, laundry--all are just a short walk away. Ricardo, the owner, couldn't have been more helpful and was always responsive to our requests and able to answer our questions. For a short, or a long stay in Oaxaca, we give Casa del Barrio high marks.
