About Steve Meyer

We are a retired couple from California who fell in love with this location years ago.

Steve Meyer purchased this townhome in 2013

Why Steve Meyer chose Kona Coast

The Surf and Racquet Club is one of the best kept secrets in Kona. The beautiful cove in front of our lanai is perfect for tidepooling and beach combing.

What makes this townhome unique

Our building with 5 units has the only direct beach access in the entire complex. Most of the Kona coast is rocky and rough, but our oceanfront is a gravel beach with sand a short walk down the beach. At low tide the water is perfect for kids to go tidepooling.

Small but nice and great location

  • 5 of 5

The condo was on the small side. It has be partially updated, and everything was in working order. Loved being just steps from the ocean and the sunsets were fantastic. You do need a car to get around. No restaurants or shopping within walking distance. There is no A/C but we didn't need it in May. The ocean breezes kept us cool.

Nice place in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in April 2017 and everything was as described. The location is great - you just a few feet away from the water, which also means that unless you can sleep with the sound of waves in the background - you should be looking for someplace else. If you like snorkeling, then you are in luck. This place is within a 2 minute drive (or you can walk) to Kahalu'u Beach Park. Snorkeling here was even better than the much fabled Hunauma Bay park near Honolulu in Oahu. The owner does provide coolers, and some snorkeling equipment.

The complex itself is fantastic. You could not ask for better landscaping.

I would rent this again.

Wonderful location

  • 4 of 5

There are plenty of reviews talking about the surrounding area and the complex itself, so I’ll limit most of my comments to the townhouse itself.

Positives: beautiful ocean front location well away from the road, beautiful view from floor to ceiling windows in master bedroom, lanai is well shaded, glass top stove, plenty of pots & pans plates glasses silverware etc., good wi fi, landline with free long distance calls, new dishwasher that is very quiet, townhouse is located at beach end of complex where high surf isn't going to threaten to splash inside unit - ocean front townhouses in "impact zone" need to be closed up when surf is high, easy access to beach - you can watch sunsets from either the lanai or with the crew of sunset worshipers on the beach.

Negatives: lanai furniture makes a nice picture but not particularly comfortable - fine for meals for six or more but otherwise cumbersome, place is getting a bit tired downstairs – numerous loose floor tiles click when stepped on, small microwave above stove slides around when opening door etc., bad smell in lower kitchen cabinets - didn't use wood cutting boards as they didn't appear to be very clean, some of the pots are a bit banged up, master bed is a Sleep Number but pump had to be disconnected to accommodate a protective cover thus losing advantage of being able to adjust mattress, lanai screen door sticks badly if closed firmly (a shot of WD-40 didn’t help), worn out mat going out to lanai, there is a grill off the lanai but it is a slight eyesore and locked so you do have to make the short walk to the nearest shared grills, we did get a few flying cockroaches coming in at night – apparently they find gaps in the screens.

Depends on your point of view: The sound of the waves breaking is a bit loud in the second floor master bedroom. It’s not a gentle rhythm but more of a roar like a storm. Some might find this soothing and for some it might be annoying. The sound is much less in the back bedroom. We noticed it but it wasn’t a problem for us.

If you're expecting a sugar sand beach next door, you'll be disappointed - in the water it is very rocky and the black sand is mostly gravel like. That said, the beach is rather isolated and quiet – a good place to sun bathe or read a book in a lounge chair. There is a shade tree that folks can park under with a book.

Cozy oceanfront Townhome

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a fantastic week very close to the ocean. Wonderful king bed, very nice dining on lanai, owner has supplied all the extras. Ocean breezes flow through so no need for a/c. The food pantry is now occupied by the washer and dryer so we kept our food on top of the refrigerator to reduce ants. A storage rack for food would have worked well by the table. One problem with non working dishwasher was quickly resolved by property mgr. We would gladly return on next visit.

Great Condo in a Great Location!

  • 4 of 5

We just stayed in this unit the week for December 26, 2016-January 2, 2017. We had a family of 4 (my husband, 2 young adult children and myself). We loved the location. We felt it was very centrally located for what we wanted to do. The unit is definitely oceanfront. It was 47 steps from the lanai to the water (yes, I counted). The unit is comfortable and has all the amenities needed (beach chairs, towels, snorkel gear, boogie boards and ice chests). The master bedroom has the best view and sounds of the waves. We feel asleep and woke to that wonderful view and sound. We enjoyed our morning Kona coffee on the lanai watching the waves and even saw several whales. It is about a 15 minute drive (depending on traffic) to downtown Kona. There is a shopping center close by. One of the best snorkel beaches in Kona is within walking distance. It is a 2 hr drive to Hilo or to the Volcano National Park.

We would recommend this condo to anyone.
