We are originally from Western MA and moved here in 1991. We own a construction company and have been in business for over 20 years. We have 4 beautiful children and love life!
Eric Garvey purchased this house in 2011
We love Ormond By-The-Sea, it offers quiet, traffic free beaches and great weather. It is our goal when we retire to spend our winters here and our summers in western MA.
We love the location. The park at the end of the street is great for the kids. We are close enough to all the shopping malls and area attractions but we are far enough away to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. Waking up and smelling the fresh salt air and ocean breeze is a great start to the day.
We came to Florida from Mooresville, NC to spend the weekend with our grandson. It is a lovely house. We had a wonderful time! Five stars!!! Thank you to Heather & Eric.
I'm a 48 year old disabled man who came to Ormond By The Sea #377762 for my first "Snowbird Winter" with my service dogs from Ohio. I arrived a day late on November 2nd due to mechanical problems with a motorcycle that I was bringing. I had trouble accessing the arrival information with the app so I had to call the Garvey's to get the code for the key. I left a message and immediately received a call back with the information.
Shortly after making the reservations and during correspondence with the Garvey's I informed them I worked in the H.V.A.C. / Plumbing / Electrical fields almost 30 years if they wanted anything fixed or upgraded I could help but I never got a response.
When I arrived the house was in pretty good shape with the exception of a few interior things that wouldn't effect my staying there but there was exterior issues and hurricane damage to the privacy fence which made my stay less than relaxing.
The interior issues were 1) broken mini blind in master bedroom 2) damaged mini blind on kitchen entrance door both of which I photographed upon taking occupancy. Additionally the kitchen faucet leaked and got progressively worse as my stay went on and I had to put a gallon milk jug under the faucet to catch it which I used to water my dogs and the banana trees.
The hurricane was no big mystery and neither was the damage it caused because a good portion of the houses in the immediate area had fence panels missing, damaged, or destroyed. I would have appreciated a discount on the rate because many other Florida V.R.B.O. rentals were offering a hurricane discount because of Mathew. The other option would have been to repair the broken panel(s) prior to my arrival. I don't feel that was my responsibility to inspect hurricane damage or notify them of that.
The neighborhood was a ghost-land except for the few full-time residents. The immediate neighbors surrounding the house were friendly but there were others who were close with dogs which were nuisance barkers that prevented me from leaving the windows open. The one house backed up to mine and their two Chihuahuas were left outside for long periods and would stand at the back fence barking continuously. The other house was three doors up
Well, I have to say that our vacation started off a little rocky or should I say "Like a hurricane".... Of course the weekend of our vacation hurricane Matthew hit the cost of Florida and caused a delay in us leaving for vacation. Not knowing what damage we were headed into we relied on the owners of the house to keep us updated on the situation at hand. The owners Heather and Eric went out of their way to keep us informed of road damage, power outages and the bike week event itself. Knowing that the house did not have power for the first two days, we made adjustments in our travels and headed to the gulf cost for a couple of days, once Heather informed us that the power was on at the house we headed straight to the house to start our vacation. Upon our arrival the area was in dismay and trees every where, power still not restored in a lot of the area, but in the mist of all of the hurricane disaster, Heather and Eric made sure the house was in great shape for us. A lot of people would have cancelled and I really wouldn't have blamed them if they had cancelled, but they didn't. The house was very clean, updated, well maintained and the neighbors were wonderful!!! They all came around and spoke to us and wondered mostly how our travel to the area was.
We couldn't have asked for a better week nor a better place to stay. The house is centrally located and out of the way at the same time. Especially if you are going for bike week, yes, it takes longer to get to main street, but so worth it to come to a home at night and be able to sleep without hearing all of the motorcycles and things that go on during that week.
We really enjoyed our stay and can't wait to go back. I would recommend this home to anyone with children or just a single couple. Oh and the back yard, it's your own little oasis...
Thank you Heather and Eric for everything you did going out of your way to make our vacation wonderful!!
Your beach house exceeded our expectations with great location, neat clean house that was well supplied with beach essentials and a relaxing atmosphere. We enjoyed the beach, doggie beach, local restaurants as well as the nice neighbors. Your backyard is an oasis too. We will definitely return for another great vacation.
Our family loves the beach and we will typically try to get in a couple of long weekends and one full week at the beach every summer. This year, instead of paying separately for a few different trips, we decided to rent Heather and Eric’s wonderful beach home for the entire month of July. Even though I knew we could not spend the entire month there (as much as I would have liked to!) I knew we would be able to look forward to every weekend and then take my one week’s vacation on the last week of the month. As a bonus, we would be able to bring along our four legged members of the family, Polly and Max. Living only an hour and a half away (in Central Florida) this arrangement worked out fantastic.
We had never actually stayed in Ormond by the Sea and when we arrived to Heather and Eric’s cute beach bungalow that first night, we were so pleased! The house is a perfect beach retreat, very comfortable, extremely well kept, and we immediately felt right at home. One of the very best things about this particular beach home is its wonderful, tropical, shaded back yard. (I did not see any other home with a backyard as nice!) Not only the atmosphere of the tropical foliage, but the all the great shade it provides, made it an amazing place to relax no matter what the time of day, even in the afternoon heat. And the breezes in the evening were amazing. Our furry friends thought so too! There are two perfect palm trees to string up a portable hammock (definitely bring one along – Amazon.com for about 20 bucks!) and the outdoor patio came to life with the tiki torches we bought.
The other great thing about this location is that although Ormond is a small beach town, there is so much to do besides the beach. A short drive takes you to Ponce Inlet or St. Augustine, but the town itself is filled with parks and historical sites. There is dock at the end of the street for fishing or kayaking, or you could take a short drive to Tomoka State Park or the amazing pier under the Granada bridge. Another plus is that there are so many conveniences just a short walk away – practically anything you need you can pick up at Dollar General at the end of the road, grab a slice of Pizza from Lenny’s around the corner or a Mahi taco from Crabby Chris’, wax for your surfboard at the surfshop, or a cold beer from the Beachside Brew Pub!
I simply cannot say enough about how we loved this location and especially Heather and Eric’s fantastic beach home. I cannot wait to return!
We had a marvelous time relaxing in this cute, clean house,on a quiet street so conveniently located near the most beautiful and peaceful beach. I was able to walk my dog to the Halifax River and watch the sunset from the pier at the other end of the street and then walk around the quiet neighborhood. We spent a great deal of time sitting and relaxing in the sun room watching the squirrels, geckos, a turtle and even a snake! (if I had a complaint, it would be that the backyard grass was pretty tall when we got there. We were a little freaked out by the potential critters lurking about out there; but, that's more of a personal issue we have.) We enjoyed the many eateries nearby, especially Genovece's - we went there twice. It was especially nice that I was able to bring my Puggle, Bentley with us. He settled in so easily. This house just suited all our needs perfectly! Thank you, Heather and Eric, for an amazing first-time experience with VRBO and Ormond-by-the-Sea! We loved it and hope to come back again soon!
