Hope Cottage is hidden away at the top of the hill in Oyster Pond. The views of the Atlantic Ocean and the surrounding islands are spectacular.
Architect designed just for us as a year-round vacation retreat, this neat 1000 square foot villa and its lush gardens is the perfect vacation getaway for any couple and is ideal for a honeymoon or a holiday with a special friend.
Gentle ocean breezes keep us cool while sunning ourselves at our lovely and private pool. At the same time, you are only a short distance from some of the best beaches on the east end of the island.
Out of love for 'his' garden, our gardener sprays our property for white fly every week. That this also kills Mosquitos is of little interest to him but it pleases us as we go to Sint Maarten in the summer to get away from them.
A few years ago, a guest commented that while Hope Cottage was lovely, the bathrooms were a bit dated. So, we bit the bullet and closed our villa for three months in 2014 for major renovations of both bathrooms. When we returned, we were greeted with European modern bathrooms featuring dual showers, regular and rain, in the master bathroom and sleek, wall-hung toilet and bidet.
Once again, our villa was fully booked for the 2014 and High and Holiday Seasons and we are taking reservations for the Hope Cottage's 2016 High Season (Jan 2 - May 7) - $2485.
Airport - 8 miles, Philipsburg, the Dutch capital - 3 miles, Marigot, the French capital - 7 miles, Grand Case with all of it's wonderful restaurants - 5 miles, Nearest Casino - 1 mile, Restaurant - 0.5 miles.

John and Susan are a retired couple living in Minnesota.
John is from Minnesota,
Susan was British, now American,
Daughter, Joelle, is French and living on the south coast of France near Cannes.
John's father was born on the nearby island of Saba.
John and Susan Peterson purchased this villa in 1997
We loved the view from out lot which is 350 ft above sea level and the consistent ocean breezes that meant that we would rarely need air conditioning.
Equally important was it's easy access to France allowing our daughter and grandchildren to visit us from France with minimum hassle.
Privacy and safety in a gated community with easy access to all of Sint Maarten's activities on both the Dutch and French sides.
The views from the picture window in the living room, the deck and even when in the pool are FANTASTIC!
We rarely need AC. In a 6 week stay in July/August we use it maybe 6 times for an hour when we go to bed. This is due to the size of the rooms and the fact that ALL of our windows have screens so we get great ventilation without worrying about mosquitos.
Just save yourself some time looking further and book this property....it is perfect for a couple or a couple with small kids to get away from it all. This is well appointed cottage that is perched high upon a hill with commanding views of Oyster Pond and the ocean. The owners recently gave the bathrooms a full renovation and they are top notch. The terrace and garden with the plunge pool was a fantastic place to just hang out during the day or evening to just lounge soaking up the sun or watching the boats come and go in the harbor below. The neighborhood is secure, with gated access and security at the main road and a further second automatic gate on the drive way to the house. The location in general was secluded without being isolated. Oyster Pond is sort of off the beaten path for the throngs of holiday tourists and Cruise Ship folks, but it still has plenty of amenities. There are restaurant options right in Oyster Pond that range from pizza and beach bars to fine dining. There are also several stores to grocery shop or pick up things like sunscreen..etc. The Westin at Dawn Beach (bottom of the hill) had the nearest ATM and it dispensed only US Dollars. USD were universally accepted everywhere on the Island. We found it was common on the French side that USD were accepted at par with Euro (at least while we where there..which meant about a 10% discount if you used USD). As Oyster Pond is right on the French/Dutch border; Marigot, Grand Case, great beaches, as well as all the big Dutch side attractions are all just short drives away.(You will need a car if you rent here) If you're looking to go off island, Oyster Pond has Voyager Ferry service to St. Barths, Anguilla and Saba. All in all it was a great trip and we'd book this place again. You'll love it.
Hope cottage has become our favorite spot in the Caribbean. While my wife can sleep as late as she likes because shutters keep the bedroom dark, I awaken, make coffee and enjoy breakfast and view on the deck next to the private pool. When she gets up we read or play Scrabble until driving a short distance to a beach or Philipsburg. Marigot and Grand Case are a bit further. Hope Cottage is convenient, relaxing, and beautiful. There are many wonderful restaurants near by. The only thing we miss is that before the Westin Hotel was built, Dawn Beach had a wonderful beach bar named Scavenger's. We've recommended it to friends.
Hope Villa is as advertised and much more. John makes the process very simple and you could not ask for a better place to honeymoon or vacation with your significant other. The property was clean, safe, and beautiful. Honestly zero complaints. We would recommend to everyone we know! Thanks!
I arrived at Hope Cottage and the view was much more than you see on the website. It was stunning. I stayed there for ten days and I think John and Susan have some of the best views on the island. I needed a quiet get away but still wanted reasonable access to the rest of the island beaches and all that it had to offer. Hope Cottage had that and more. Drink a cup of coffee on the deck and watch the sun come up over Dawn Beach. The breeze in the afternoon keeps the temperatures tropical. I really felt like I was on top of the island. From the car you walk thru the lush garden to the cottage. On the beach side it totally opens up over Oyster Pond to the eastern Atlantic and the Caribbean. Its really an enchanting place and fits right in as a tropical hide away. The management staff were as freindly as can be and made me feel right at home. The cottage is so comfortable it was several days before I made it out to tour the island. It had everything you will need. If you like to cook pay a visit to a grocery store and bakery on the French side and you wont have to leave the house, or visit one of the many restaurants within a few minutes drive.
We had a wonderful stay at Hope Cottage. The listing description was accurate regarding the rentals appearance, amenities and location. The property was very clean and well maintained. The owner was very hospitable and helpful in answering all our questions - even calling to make sure everything was going well. We would and have recommended this property highly - we hope to return. We loved the location overlooking Oyster Bay - and found it convenient to Orient Bay as well as Marigot and Grand Case. Oyster Bay itself had 4 restaurants we liked and a little grocery store to buy coffee and fresh croissants and muffins. We would give it 5 stars!
We greatly enjoyed our vacation in St. Maarten and especially our experience at this villa. It provided some unforgettable memories. Perched high atop one of the many dramatic hillsides, this property features beautiful, panoramic views of Oyster Bay and Dawn Beach. Walking through the garden entrance with flowers/plant life on both sides, you immediately get a sense of privacy and solitude. The accommodations inside are nicely done - spacious master bedroom with en suite, adequate kitchen, comfortable living room, etc. But clearly the star of the show is the outdoor space, as is appropriate for an island vacation. There is an expansive terrace and balcony area on one side, part shaded and part open, and a charming little pool on the other side. The best of the vacation was waking up to those views, taking a dip in the pool and relaxing outside all day long. The trade winds provide a nice balance to the sunshine and the views are spectacular.
At the same time, there are plenty of nearby shops, restaurants and beaches that are just a quick drive from the villa. We liked having the views, peace and quiet while still being close enough to the action when you want to venture out. It's a great combination that we would highly recommend!
Skylight and all windows have custom, fitted screens. The only openings without screens are the doors.
Secluded pool area suitable for nude sunbathing.
Just 5 minutes drive to ferry to St. Barts.
