About Doug

I bought this cabin in 1999, and it was a little bit of a fixer upper at the time. Since then, it has been a labor of love to re-do the bathrooms, kitchen, windows, deck and decorate my place to feel very much like what I envision a lodge to look like - it even has a set of real moose antlers brought to me by a friend from Alaska. Each bedroom has it's own unique theme. I am a Canadian and this place is my way of feeling like I'm back home. I work in Silicon Valley and live in the bay area, and this is my families get away place. I plan to retire in this home down the road. It has been a wonderful place to create memories for my kids and my family. I truly believe Pine Mountain Lake is the best kept secret in the Sierras.

Doug purchased this cabin in 1999

Why Doug chose Groveland

Years ago I used to organize a guys fishing trip and we traveled through Groveland each time on the way to the lake. At first I didn't even know PML was here, but I took a house building class, and the instructor talked about building a home here. Then I got interested. I wanted a place that was close enough to the bay area that I could drive up to on a Friday night after work, and had lots of things to do since my kids were young then - PML fit the bill and I started looking. I looked at many homes, but the second I entered this cabin, I turned to the realtor and said 'this is the one'. It had green shag carpeting and a harvest yellow kitchen, but it had great bones and all those things have now been replaced.

What makes this cabin unique

The main living area of the home has wooden paneling and large exposed beams with wooden tongue in groove ceilings throughout. It is a relatively large cabin (2100 ft.) yet has a warm and cozy feel with the floor to ceiling rock fireplace. As you look around you will notice new details every day. Many of the decorations have a story behind them.

Driving directions and helpful hints: 1. On the PML map, look for Unit 8, lot 42. May be best to print and take this map with you 2. Only Verizon cell phones will work at the home. I have phones in the house for your unlimited long distance (within the US) use. The phone number is (209) 962-2000. 3. 4. Hint: If you are coming from the west along highway 120, a few miles after you drive over the bridge on Don Pedro reservoir, the road begins a rapid climb up to the forest just past where highway 49 splits off on the right at Moccasin. There are two options – old Priest Grade Road or new Priest Grade Road. All the locals use the old road (watch for the sign and exit the main road to the right) as it is 4 minutes vs. 10 minutes to the top. The old road is steep but safe, the new road is very windy and long. Turn off your AC or you may overheat going up – downshift to low gear coming down or your brakes may smoke (old road). Sounds worse than it is – really.

Wonderful cabin right by the lake!

  • 5 of 5

We (3 couples) had a great time at Doug's cabin! It's in a very convenient location, just a few minutes walk from the lake. The interior is comfortable and cozy with some fun amenities (pool table, shuffleboard). Doug was easy to communicate with and provided lots of recommendations for what to do in the area before we arrived. I would definitely recommend staying here!

Pine Mountain Lake

  • 5 of 5

The property was well advertised, with many activities available people of all interests. Doug was very quick getting back to me when I had questions. This is a great area if you want to visit Yosemite or there are even 2 hikes before Yosemite (Carlon Falls and Rainbow Pool) that are great for the whole family.

We went for a five day vacation and really glad we picked this cabin. Awesome lake and 15 minute drive to Rainbow Pools for cliff jumping and sliding down waterfalls. Doug was great and kept in contact if we needed him. A+ all the way!!!

This mountain lodge/cabin was perfect for our family. We absolutely loved it!! The rooms are good sized and the beds are comfortable. Our kids loved the shuffleboard and pool tables and the marina really is only a short walk away. The kids enjoyed swimming in the lake and renting pedal boats. We will definitely be coming back!!

Wonderful place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I enjoyed staying at this cabin at the lake. The house was very clean and comfortable. There was more than enough room for my family of five. We enjoyed shooting pool, running along the beach, swimming, and hiking in Yosemite. The owner (Mr. Doug) kept in touch to make sure we had everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable. I can't say enough about the service he provided us. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others as well.

Pine Mountain Lake main marina
Car: necessary

Pine Mountain Lake is a wonderful gated community in the Sierra foothills. There are numerous amenities including a golf course, lake, small airport, equestrian center, tennis courts, all close to Yosemite. The main marina is only a five minute walk from the cabin, and it has a beach, volleyball, small sail boat rentals, brand new beach side restaurant and picnic tables - tons to do! The town of Groveland is a small charming town with great shops and places to eat, and the famous Iron Door Saloon where you can try your luck at putting a dollar bill on the ceiling-ask the bartender. Live music and dancing Saturday nights! The country club restaurant has great food and a bar with a wonderful view overlooking the golf course and wooded mountains. Sunday brunch on the patio is a favorite.

There is a grocery store at the corner of highway 120 and Ferretti Road - it is smaller that the city versions, but has everything.

Rates & Availability

Taxes and fees are additional

Additional information about rental rates

Cleaning Fee $130
Damage Deposit $500

The front gate charges a weekly entrance fee of $27 per vehicle.
I strongly prefer a check - I am charged a 3% credit card fee which I do not charge for, but for foreign credit cards they charge me a 6% transaction fee and another 3% again when I return the deposit, so I charge an extra $10 per day if this method is used.
Cancellation-All money paid will be refunded, if written notice given 21+ days in advance of arrival date. For less than 21 days before arrival, money will be fully refunded if the home is rented again to cover the period of your reserved dates. If a partial rental time is all that can be filled, then a prorated amount of the rent only will be retained.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund if canceled at least 14 days before arrival date.
  • 100% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
