About Cherie Crowley

Our Family is from Seattle, Washington. We visited Puerto Econdido and immediately fell in love with this peaceful town. Every time we go there we discover new and wonderful things to do.

Cherie Crowley purchased this house in 2013

Why Cherie Crowley chose Puerto Escondido

This house has everything. It's within walking distance to every where. The pool is perfect.

Puerto Escondido offers an extraordinary variety of white sand beaches, surf breaks, hidden coves and fresh water lagoons. When you tire of beach exploration, shopping and cultural opportunities abound. Puerto Escondido offers something for everyone. Favored things to do include horseback riding on the beach, surf fishing, boogie boarding, surfing, eco tours, kayaking, bird watching or just relaxing. Experience the culture of Mexico — explore the nearby towns of Tututepec, Jamiltepec, Pinotepa Nacional, Pinotepa de Don Luis, Colotopec, and Nopala. Tours are available. Contact Gina at the Puerto Escondido tourism booth on the Adoquin.

Central Puerto Escondido supports two American-style grocery stores that sell items like cereal and deli meat, but most locals and tourists favor the Mercado Benito Juarez. Like most Mexican markets, it is one of the social mainstays of the town. A sprawling affair that takes up half of a block, it is most active on Wednesdays and Saturdays. On these days, people from the surrounding mountains make their way down to Puerto via the night bus. They bring with them such items as homemade tostadas sweetened with palm fruit, edible flowers from mountain trees, and stacks of beans tied together with palm fronds. This is a must visit!

What makes this house unique

Security/privacy wall around the property and secure parking for 1 vehicle.

On bus routes and walking distance to beaches and the local markets.

For added guest security, there is an on-site property manager. He is available to assist guests with English-Spanish translations, locating local services, attractions and excursions, and/or questions regarding the house or property.

A Return Visit

  • 5 of 5

We were very happy to return to Puerto Escondido and the charming Vista Zicatela. The gardens that surround the house seemed even more beautiful. The Manager Larry was very helpful with answering our questions. He also suggested various stores, restaurants and events that might interest us. Martina maintained the pool, house and gardens with great care. The parrots by the pool provided a great source of amusement for us. The central location of the house enabled us to walk or taxi to various areas as we explored PE.

Highlights of this trip were enjoying the cinema and the blues festival on the beach, bird watching on the Manialtepec Lagoon, and exposing the Tututepec Archeological site.

Fabulous!

  • 5 of 5

My family of six, four adults and two children just spent 11 nights at this terrific house. We spent our days lounging around the pool, which is set in a lovely garden, walking to the many beaches and shopping for all things fresh at the local market. It was very convenient having the Super Che just four blocks away. The housekeeper Martina is a really sweet woman and we had fun practicing our Spanish with her. The house was spacious, the kitchen had everything we needed and the beds super comfy!

Thank you so much Cherie for sharing your beautiful home with us!

Comfortable house with lovely pool and garden area

  • 5 of 5

House was very comfortable with a lovely pool and garden area which is well maintained. Centrally located close to the Super Che and also within walking distance to the local market. Also within walking distance to various restaurants down on the beach front. Our favourite was Pascale's. Go on a Sunday evening when there is live music playing. The on site manager Larry was very helpful and Martina (the house keeper) very pleasant. Would recommend you bring earplugs as the roosters and dogs can be noisy at night and the two resident parrots start chattering early in the morning!! A certain level of fitness is needed. To get to the beach is easy enough, but getting home again is the hard part - climbing back up the numerous steps! The pool was always a welcome sight on our return!! If you do not want to walk back up the hill there is always the option of a cab which costs about 35 pesos. We would certainly recommend this property to our friends and we hope to return again in the future. Thank you Cherie for providing us with information about Puerto Escondido before our arrival and for the welcome we received from Larry and Martina on our arrival. All in all a very relaxing and memorable holiday.

Owner's Response: Pamela, I’m so happy your family enjoyed your vacation in our house in Puerto Escondido. Having everything within walking distance is one of the things we love about this house, the other is the pool! The stairs can be a challenge for sure – that’s why I take the longer way, through the streets. I definitely get my exercise while I’m there. I apologize for the morning disturbance. Because Puerto Escondido is rural, you do hear a variety of birds and local farm animals waking up in the morning. I hope you are able to stay with us again. Thank you. Warmest regards, Cherie

Beautiful Property, No Privacy

  • 3 of 5

The location is superb. The supermarket is walking distance. The swimming pool is really clean and maintained. We were impressed with the view and the accommodations. It is walkable to the beach in 10 minutes, but without little kids. That’s not a terrible issue as we can get one of the many taxis available at the supermarket. For 25 pesos, they can take you anywhere in Puerto Escondido. Really, the only big problem with the house is the “on-site manager”, I did not understand that statement to be the owner living in an apartment upstairs. Personally, that made my family feel self-conscious. I think because we were not expecting this type of set up, we had to get used to the on-site manager watching our every move. Also, a lot of reviews praised Martina, the housekeeper, for her work. She is fantastic on the outside work but the inside work was very superficial. In our 4 weeks stay, the sheets were changed twice, and one week, her cleaning day was changed without any notification. The rational that was given to us for this change was that we were leaving on a Friday so it was nice to have this done on Tuesday instead of Wednesday. Thank you for the thoughtful act, but please advise before making that decision on your own and removing the lock we put on the door when we left to go to the beach! This incident was just the last one in a long line of others that did not make us feel at home. The person you deal with when making the reservation, the co-owner located in the US, is really on top of it. So, I believe that after this review is published, it will never happen again.

Owner's Response: Ms. Hagen, I am truly sorry you felt self-conscious with having someone else on the property with your family. My family does not live in Puerto Escondido so to keep our property safe from vandalism we hired an on-site property manager. The house has a studio apartment with a separate entrance and the manager lives there. In addition to the added security, the property manager takes care of the gardens and supervises the help. We have never had any complaints from our guests regarding Mr. Spencer or Martina, but I will follow up with both of them and share your comments. Thanks for staying with us. Cherie Crowley

Fabulous rental, will definitely return

  • 5 of 5

We stayed as a group of 5 friends in april 2015. The property is very clean and well maintained, the customer service was 5star excellent. I will and have recommended this property to friends and relatives. The pool is amazing, the landscaping is beautiful and well maintained. Access to downtown and beach is easy to walk to everything. We did turtle release eco tour, tour to swim in lagoon with plankton bioluminescense; walking tour by Gina; swimming in ocean and pools; mercado for shopping and restaurants. Property manager made great recommendations. This was a very memorable vacation rental. Thanks so much to the owners.

An oasis in the city

  • 4 of 5

After a cold, long winter we were excited to be escaping for 10 days. This was our first time renting a home and it was a wonderful experience. Cherie your information and quick response to any enquiries really eased our minds. The home is exactly as portrayed in the pictures, spotlessly clean and I have to say the swimming pool was the highlight for us! The beautiful lush greenery with the parrots chattering in the background was like an oasis from the heat of Puerto Escondido. The house is located very centrally so it is so easy to get to the various areas of town with the grocery store (Super Che) a few blocks and even the wonderful local market within walking distance. There is some noise from vehicles as it is a busy area but you can't be in the hub of things without hearing some traffic. With that said the house is very private so although you can hear movement you can't see it nor can you be seen. The housekeeper is lovely, our Spanish is weak making it a little tricky communicating but Spanish is the native language so that is our problem and not a reflection of the property. In addition there is typically an on site manger who speaks English but he happened to be away during our stay. Cherie called to welcome us and looked after any little quires we had open arrival. Hope to be able to return one day!
