About Bruce Johnson

Allow us to introduce ourselves. Our names are Alston and Bruce Johnson. Our Cottage has a very interesting history! The Cottage is historical in nature with a great story to share. The house is nestled on 2 acres of waterfront. Surrounded by old Virginia pines, 60 year old Magnolia trees and gorgeous foliage. Our Cottage was build by my Grandfather, General Denig for his loving wife in 1950. It has been restored to reflect the charm and character of that era. The simplicity of natural oak flooring, 2 fireplaces, high ceilings and extremely large picture windows makes this home unique. Water views from most every window and beautiful sunsets keep our guests coming back. General Denig's cottage is one of the last existing summer cottages left in the prestigious Birdneck Point.

Bruce Johnson purchased this house in 2012

Why Bruce Johnson chose Northeast Virginia Beach

The Denig Cottage is peaceful, gracious, timeless and quaint. It has been in our family for years and has experienced much love, laughter and friendship.

What makes this house unique

Particularly for those who enjoy great scenery and quiet surroundings. Experience quiet all year around cottage living with Beautiful Water Views. We like Winter walks on the beach too with trips to the Edgar Casey Foundation to enjoy their no cost lectures and their spa offers to pamper yourself is a different experience. We enjoy having excellent access to the beaches, First Landing State Park, the boardwalk, stores, movie theatre, the aquarium and good restaurants; it is a fun place to visit all year around. Birdneck Point has a convenient community location which offers it all with access to the Chesapeake Bay inland coastal waterway and a five minute drive to the beach.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We would highly recommend this lovely house. It was comfortable, spacious and very clean.

  • 5 of 5

We came with our 3 children (college and high school age) and my mother. It was the perfect location for being close to everything Virginia Beach has to offer, and for visiting with our relatives living nearby. Everything there was cozy and comfortable. My whole family thoroughly enjoyed it!

Fun family vacation spot

  • 4 of 5

Wonderful home for large families! Great house for grandparents who have a hard time getting around-one level essentially. Also great fishing off the dock. Only complaint-NO WIFI at the house. Also read the contract carefully about the cleaning deposit. We thought cleaning was included with the rental price and the cleaning deposit was non refundable if a huge mess was left. However the cleaning deposit is to cover a cleaning service if you do not wish to clean the house when your vacation is over.

Amazing Location

  • 5 of 5

The location of this cottage is absolutely amazing. We had a wonderful view of the inlets from both the front and the back of the cottage. We enjoyed the use of the crab pots, bikes and beach supplies. The house itself was charming, spacious and clean. The location is about a 5 minute drive to VB and the boardwalk. We absolutely loved it and would strongly recommend this property. We will definitely be back!!

Lovely Home, Fabulous Location

  • 5 of 5

The house was absolutely lovely! It was clean, well-maintained and nicely appointed! We enjoyed our daily walks through the lovely neighborhood and our daily crabbing activities off the dock. Our elderly parents loved having their own wing. The layout of the house was perfect for them and us - it is the perfect home for lots of fellowship. It was wonderful, also, for Trish and Bruce to check-in by email to make sure our stay was going well. And to the previous guests who started the Giraffe Puzzle, we'd like to let you know that we finish it!

Great location for locals and out-of-towners!

  • 5 of 5

We have several relatives who've lived within 2 miles of this rental for the past 30+ years. We've visited Virginia Beach many times over those years and know the area quite well. We've rented several over places at the North End or stayed with relatives in the Hilltop area of VB. We rented this house to enjoy the deep water access with 2 boats and a jet ski we had access to. The boating was great and the house is nicely located with respect to the local bays, boat access beaches and restaurants. And, it is a very short easy car ride to either the touristy or local North End part of the Oceanfront beaches. You are very close to store shopping and favorite local restaurants too. The house is located in the very nice Birdneck Point neighborhood; nicely wooded and surrounded by water views. Upgraded appliances, and quality furniture and appointments reminiscent of a true Virginia Beach. The house is also supplied with an abundance of supplies from bikes to beach chairs, to ziplock bags...truly a nice touch compared to some other rentals. This was a great house and made it easy to feel like a local. We could easily live there!

Beautiful waterfront home in serene location.

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our weeklong stay at this amazing historic home. It is very well maintained and spacious enough to feel very comfortable in. We had loads of fun crabbing with our children each day and riding our bikes in this lovely golf course community. It is a quick drive to the beach and several other family friendly actives such as the Virginia Aquarium and Motor World Amusement Park. The options of things to do are endless but we hardly ever wanted to leave the house because it is such a wonderful home. We could not have been happier to stay there!
