About Tom & Dawn

My wife of 29 years and our 4 grown children enjoy our mountain getaway.

Tom & Dawn purchased this house in 2008

Why Tom & Dawn chose Marion

I've been fly fishing for trout in western North Carolina for over 30 years, this area is one of the most beautiful valleys surrounded by mountains I have seen, and I have always wanted to find the perfect place in this area for our family and friends to enjoy the mountains.

What makes this house unique

So close to everything: fishing, hunting lands border our land, have seen deer, bear, and turkey on property, the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway can be accessed from 3 locations just minutes away, the Linville Gorge is spectacular and has hiking trails that lead right down to our place. A Beautiful golf course is about a mile away. The history of one of the most pivotal battles in the American Revolution, the Battle of Kings Mountain, brought the patriot forces marching literally up the road we are on and then up the mountain behind our land, creating what is now the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail. We sit on our decks and look across at the mountains which contain 18 railroad tunnels created by the Clinchfield RR, called the Clinchfield Loops, which to this day takes trains up and over (and under) the Blue Ridge Parkway and the mountains.

My family had a great stay!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was very nice and comfortable. It was a rainy weekend in the mountains but the cabin was well equipped with games, game room and movies which kept my 4 teenaged sons entertained! Would visit again and would recommend to friends!

Owner's Response: We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay at our mountain home. Our 4 young adult children loved this house as teens exploring the woods, having big bonfires on the top of the mountain and playing frisbee, cornhole and horseshoes in the large front yard. Of course, they still love it as young adults, but now they can drive and go visit linville falls, the local winery up the road and area attractions. I always love the quality family time we share here without the interruption of electronics. Amazing how children will open up and find boundless ideas of things to do in the great outdoors. Thank you for visiting us. Hope you join us again! Tom and Dawn

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review! We are so glad that you felt right at home in our mountain get-away. Bonfires on top of the mountain continue to be a favorite, as well as, small campfires for telling stories, strumming guitars and roasting marshmallows right by the house. It warms our hearts to know that forever memories were made during your visit!

LOVED! LOVED! LOVED! Amazing home, views, activities, and memories!

  • 5 of 5

Our family loved this property. The pictures do not do the home justice! It is a beautiful house. We had a family group of three adults and 6 children (ages 5-15) who ended up staying in this home during an evacuation from hurricane Irma. The house is so well stocked and the owners have thought of everything to make their quests, people and pets, comfortable. Our children loved the game room which was packed with activities inside and yard games and hammocks for outside. We stayed a total of 5 nights and a few of those days were rainy weather from the storms. That did not slow us down at all. The house had a great movie selection and board games stocked to keep the little ones occupied. Our families enjoyed the sunsets daily from the front yard and top balcony and making smores around the fire outside in the evenings. The kids loved the hills in the front yard and wore themselves out running and rolling down them! This home is in a great location with many surrounding activities. We went into Linville and did Gem mining and the Linville Caverns Tour. We Ziplined at Beanstalk Ziplines and it was a great experience. Another favorite and highly recommended activity while in this area is to check out Elk Mountain Riding Company. The guide made the experience amazing... and the view while riding through the mountains and fur tree farms was breathtaking. We highly recommend this home and have our kids already asking can we come back for the Holidays. I also want to say that it was a pleasure working with the owners of this house. The checked in on us often and even offered to allow us to extend our stay if needed. They were so kind! We made memories in this home and on this trip that will last a lifetime. <3

  • 5 of 5

BY FAR one of the best homes we have ever stayed in. Me and a group of friends rent homes about once a month and this was our favorite one we have ever had. Beautiful views and very beautiful on the inside! Was more than enough for us!

it feels like home

Great place to stay when coming to the mountains...located right between a decent size town and some great activities. The home owner is so helpful and nice. If you have a large group of people this is the place for you. Tons of space! Plenty of wood for some great fires...recommend the hike to the top of the property to see all of the amazing views.
