Jungle paradise in a special part of Kauai

  • 5 of 5

We truly enjoyed our stay in this very special part of the island. The home is open, light and spacious. Each bedroom has a ceiling fan and good ventilation once the windows are open (it does become quite toasty in the main room during the day). The full kitchen is well-furnished--coffee maker, toaster, dishwasher, disposal... Loved the outdoor tub/shower. The views to the mountains / jungle are stunning! There is even a friendly herd of cows that travel a path on the other side of the back yard fence, and tons of birds (even spotted a parrot!). The walk to Tunnels (7-8 minutes) was also very convenient, as parking is very very tight. 15' drive max to Hanalei. The Sushi Girl local store is small, but has basics and is only a 3' drive away. Overall, a wonderful stay. Thank you for having us as your guests!

Great family rental near Tunnels

  • 5 of 5

First, thank you Judy, for allowing us to stay at your Tunnels Beach house rental. It was outstanding! Stayed in August 2017 - grandparents and our 3 grandchildren (all in their 20s). The location is awesome - walking distance to Tunnels (about 1/2 mile). This house is built for comfort. Nice big living area with open kitchen/living room/dining. HUGE lanai with multiple seating areas - the first place you go every morning with your coffee. Everyone's favorite was the outdoor shower....which we ALL used. Great under-house area to shower/wash off sand, snorkel equipment, etc. Stays nice and cool down there also on extra hot afternoons. Owner kindly provides paper towels, toilet tissue, toiletries, dish soap, etc. Basic spices and everything needed for kitchen. Master bedroom is large. All beds were comfortable and have good bedding. Plentiful towels. Plenty of storage space. Coolers, beach chairs, boogy boards, snorkel equipment, etc. are all available. We enjoyed communing with the various horses and cows in the pasture that backs up to this place. Saw numerous birds here also. At night we would lay out on the front lawn and look at the stars (meteor showers!). Most of our free time was sitting on the large lanai. Having our grandkids with us was a special treat for both them and us. We had a blast! We ate most meals here since this crew is into snorkeling! Short drive to Hanalei for other meals and to the grocery. Met next door neighbor who is very nice. Only thing negative I can say is that it can get HOT in the afternoons. We were there during August, at the hottest part of the year...it was 85-90+ every day. The house gets hot in the afternoons - fortunately the owner provides a good number of fans and that makes it better. When we felt too hot, we just moved downstairs and sat in beach chairs. This house is an excellent value for the location, and we fully intend to return as often as we can.

Owner's Response: So happy to hear that you had a great time! I was just there and forgot the amazing birds in the backyard! My friend that came with me is a birder and she went crazy over the backyard! Mahalo

We loved it!

  • 5 of 5

Being within walking distance to Tunnels Beach was a plus because there isn't much parking there. The house was wonderful and all the added extras really helped: beach chairs, towels, snorkel gear, movies, games, laundry room, etc. The bedrooms were roomy with comfortable beds. We especially loved the deck and outdoor shower! We had stayed on the north shore before, but this house was so much better! Mahalo!!!

wonderful

We enjoyed everything about the property from location to decoration, amenities, well stocked with virtually anything you might need, but especially enjoyed very private outside oversized Jacuzzi tub.

Portable air conditioners came in handy. Huge rear deck to lounge about.

We would stay here again

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of four, with twelve and fifteen year old boys and Kauai was a dream vacation for us. We researched and read reviews on what seemed like a hundred homes. Tunnels Beach turned out to be our very favorite so it was a wonderful convenience to be so close. It was definitely a 15 minute walk for us from the house so the few times we walked it, we tried to take as little gear as possible. It was also a blessing to be that close to the "end of the road" so we could get to the Napali trail head early since there aren't nearly as many parking spaces as there are tourists trying to find one. :) The house was clean and we had plenty of room. The shower in the parking area made cleaning ourselves and our gear much easier. The washer and dryer meant we didn't go home with ten loads of dirty laundry. The boogie boards, beach towels, chairs, snorkel gear, etc... were an added bonus and one less thing for us to pack or purchase. As many other reviewers pointed out (so we were prepared for), the house gets really hot during the afternoon and you will not want to be in it then. But it does cool down quickly at night and the area seems really safe so we had no worries leaving everything opened up for the breeze. We did cook every night and didn't lack for any necessities in the kitchen. Every VRBO we have rented has always had a few essentials like sugar and spices, dish detergent, soap, paper towels, etc... and this house did also and again, we appreciate having one less thing to buy at the store.

I did pack a Dohm sound machine for the trip and it helped some since you need to leave the windows open and the roosters WILL begin crowing at 4 a.m. Also the house is maybe 100 feet from the main road and the Napali hikers begin rolling in at sunrise so just be prepared to start your day early. Still, due to the quality and cleanliness of the house and it's proximity to the areas of Kauai we loved, we would definitely stay here again and are thankful people share their homes with those of us who can only dream of living in a paradise such as this!
