I fell in love with the beaches at this end of the island. Best in Hawaii!

The grandparents, daughter, son, daughter-in-law, 2 grandkids ages 9 and 11 had a wonderful time! The house is very comfortable, has an extremely well equipped kitchen, and is in a great location.
All the beach equipment one could want . Will come back if we can.
Perfectly located at the far end of the north coast, and a short walk to several bustiful beaches, this is a perfect place for those who want to be a bit off the grid but desire very pleasant surroundings. TheHouse is wel-equipped, with a wonderful lanai that allows you to combine life at the shore with a view of the mountains.
We loved our stay in this modern, attractive, clean, well-equipped house. My wife is a great cook and the kitchen had everything she needed. Plus the propane grill on the lanai which we used quite often. It was great having a washer and dryer. Tons of beach stuff: 6 chairs, an umbrella, beach toys, many pairs of water shoes, numerous fins, masks, and snorkels. Even some beach bags to carry towels and drinks.
However, the best part was the location. We could walk to Tunnels Beach where the snorkeling is just amazing. Like swimming in an aquarium. I once saw about 50 fish in a school swimming all around me. We saw a different type each day. We saw a sea turtle about 2 feet in diameter, a couple of seals swimming by within five feet of the shoreline, and a couple of seals sleeping on the beach just around the point to the east. Check it out as they rest there quite often and even have a little roped off area with signs asking you not to disturb them.
I would say Tunnels is more like a 15 minute walk. You can get to a different beach in about 7 minutes, but it is worth the extra to go to Tunnels. We would drive our chairs and such down and either drop them off or park if there was a space. People come and go there so spaces open up. Most afternoons after 2:00 there were plenty of spaces. The beach was NEVER crowded.
We stayed two weeks: July 9th - 23rd, 2016. It did get pretty warm in the house sometimes. There is no air conditioning but there are plenty of fans. A couple of days we could have used air conditioning but I suspect it doesn't get that hot most of the year. We felt that a shade covering the high glass wall facing west would help keep the sun out in the afternoon and might help.
The roosters were a bit of a pain. I wore ear plugs at night. However, others in our family weren't bothered at all. During the day, it's kind of nice to hear them. They are all over Kauai so not particular to this location. We saw a couple of horses out back one day and there are cows nearby as well.
We absolutely LOVED the outdoor shower! You can see the mountains while showering and all the other lush vegetation.
The whole area just has a nice vibe. Very laid back. Very beautiful. Standing in the water at Tunnels and looking back at the beach, the sparkling blue water, the trees coming right up to the beach providing shade, the mountains in the background, and a huge waterfall, never ceased to give me the chills that I was actually in such a place
This home definitely fit with the Kauai vibe! Close to Tunnels beach, can easily accommodate six people without feeling like you're on top of each other, and the outdoor shower was great! The town of Hanalei was very charming, and only 10 minutes down the road. Thanks for sharing your home with us!
Loved the surf board too. House was clean and the outdoor shower was lovely. Thanks for a great stay!
If you love the Tunnels/Ke'e beach area, this is an ideal property. No direct walking access to the beach but a a couple minute car ride to Tunnels for an early morning snorkel or swim. We loved the decor of the second-story living space and its huge, private lanai facing the jungle foliage. The open-air oval bathtub and shower just off the master bathroom is an exotic bonus. Good-sized kitchen, light and airy furnishings, and an ample, comfortable sofa and master bed. A clean place. Everything about this home is relaxing. Lots of beach gear downstairs in the laundry room. The property manager was very helpful and personable in the minor troubleshooting with the TV and DVD remote.
Of course, this property, like many in Kauai has nearby roosters which start crowing at 3-4 AM; the typical glass-louvered windows don't quite filter that out . But some judicious earplugs or earmuffs solve that problem.
We love this place! We recommend it to anyone, especially a couple seeking a private, beautiful place to retreat.
