There is nothing more “Maine" than Corea! When you think of the postcard image of Maine, you’re thinking of Corea. In fact, you CAN find Corea on postcards and calendars. Corea is a still a working harbor where the road dead ends in 360 degrees of gorgeous and a lobster co-op at the end of the line.
Now in our 6th season offering our family property for vacation rental, we are excited to offer a second listing in Corea! In addition to our waterside rental, The Boathouse at Corea Harbor we’re offering The Porchside just across the street. We’ve owned this farm house since 1970 and now the Porchside offers a nicely appointed budget friendly vacation for a single person or a couple that doesn’t scrimp on character or location. Corea is located on the Schoodic Peninsula in a cluster of small villages which collectively make up the area known as Gouldsboro. Winter Harbor a short drive away is home to the Schoodic portion of Acadia National Park and has wonderful hikes, easy biking and un-real views. Food, farmers markets, organic farm, art center and of course open ocean, beaches (yes, the water is as cold as you’ve heard) and many ways to enjoy your time in a gentle, low key environment.
The Porchside is a one bedroom, one bath dwelling located steps from all the beauty that Corea has to offer. A comfy living room just steps away from the galley kitchen with all the basics, includes a high top table for two for casual dining. Upstairs you’ll find a large bedroom with water views through breezy windows and a 3/4 bath just down the hall. This house was originally a single family home that was separated years ago but in 2007 re-zoned for two family. The Porchside is heated with 2 zone oil heat for chilly fall nights. You have a private entrance and as the name implies, you’ll have a nice wide porch from which you can watch the village pass you by! Read, write or browse the internet. Write your memoir or spend a couple of weeks painting the coastline using the Porchside as your base. The Porchside has a monthly rental rate if you’re looking to spend a longer visit to the area.
Downeast Maine is not about glitz and glamour but if a simple, easy to live in accommodation with access to a ton of fun works for you, you’ll fit right in. Maine! The Way Life Should Be.
Yes, that's my Mom, Beth Christ-Janer, owner of The Porchside as well as The Boathouse at Corea Harbor enjoying a gorgeous August day last year. My Mom and Dad bought the property in 1970. My father was and an architect and educator who was giving a lecture at Colby College in the dead of winter. He had decided to drive up to the coastal area and look for a summer home for our family. He committed to driving from the first peninsula above Bar Harbor up to Canada to see what he could find away from the tourist centers. Corea was the first town on his trip up the coast and while there he ran into some artists plein air painting from their van. He described what he was doing and they told him he needn't go any further. They'd just come from the north down to the Schoodic Peninsula and they said the couldn't find anything more lovely than Corea. The rest is history..
