A beautiful cabin in a peaceful setting on two acres of pine forest. Birdsong is conveniently situated in picturesque Somesville right in the middle of Mount Desert Island, minutes from Acadia National Park and 8 miles to the town of Bar Harbor. The layout is an open living/kitchen/dining area with a beautiful wood interior and cathedral ceiling. The room is filled with natural light from the many windows and skylights. Birdsong is a wonderful place to come home to after a day in Acadia!

Birdsong Cabin is located in Somesville, 'Mt Desert.' A perfect location. Right in the middle of Mt Desert Island 'MDI'. 9 minutes to Bar Harbor, 5 minutes to Southwest Harbor . Swimming at Echo Lake and Long Pond 3 minutes away.

About Lisa Clark

I am a graphic designer, artist and music lover. An avid hiker and camper, I have been coming to Mt. Desert Island for over twenty years.

Lisa Clark purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Lisa Clark chose Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island

I rented this cabin two years ago and loved being here! Somesville is so central to everything on the island. When it became available to purchase I knew it was the spot I was hoping for!

What makes this cabin unique

The cabin's privacy, being down a dirt road, combined with its lovely arts and crafts interior make it special. Two acres of pine woods near the top of Somes Sound is a real find.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We are coming to the Birdsong for our 6th year. That in itself should tell you something. We being myself, hubby and dog Hobbie. We absolutely LOVE it here. It's not just a cabin, but a home and we're glad John and Holly have shared it with us all these years. It's a very quiet area here, kind of tucked away in the corner, but easy, close access to Bar Harbor and all of the many other surrounding towns and harbors. We are able to do a lot of hiking in Acadia National Park, eating at some very interesting restaurants, shopping and find for the most part that this is a very dog-friendly area of Maine. It's also nice to just sit back and relax in this "cabin", read a good book, barbeque out on the back deck, and just enjoy the serenity of the area. This cabin has everything you need, just like being home, is in a good central area, and well, we just love everything about it. The housekeeper does an excellent job of keeping it clean, and after looking at the pictures on the web site, there were no "surprises". Everything was what we expected. In fact we find it fun to pick out all of the new things (furniture, pictures, etc.) that they add each year. We couldn't ask for more, would recommend and have recommended the Birdsong.

Lovely, comfortable stay in an ideal location!

  • 5 of 5

We had a terrific stay at Birdsong! The cabin is beautiful, comfortable and clean, and it was perfect for our family - 2 adults, 2 kids (11 & 8) and a large dog. We visit MDI every summer and enjoy relaxing on the quiet side, but also spend a lot of time inside the park. We were looking for a more central location to minimize driving time and couldn't have imagined a more ideal spot! Very close to Long Pond and Somes Pond for kayaking and swimming. Another nearby bonus is Beech Hill Farm, where you can get fresh and delicious food to enjoy while winding down at the cabin. Lisa is friendly and responsive and has provided lots of useful information at the cabin. We highly recommend Birdsong and hope to be back!

Great home base for all your ANP explorations!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Birdsong was perfect. Lisa thought of everything that a traveler would ever want or need. The kitchen was the best stocked rental kitchen I have ever seen for those who like to cook on vacation. We brought our dog with us and there were dog dishes and a dog bed for him! He felt right at home. The cabin is very cozy with plenty of windows for light and fresh air. It is very clean and well maintained. Communication with Lisa was great through the whole process. I would not hesitate to return. Thanks Lisa!

P.S, Check out Pie Wednesday at the Somesville Union Meeting house. You will not regret it.

Quiet and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

We spent Memorial Day weekend at birdsong with our two daughters (ages 1.5 and 6) and dog and had a wonderful stay. Comfortable and very quiet, yet still close to the sights. We felt like we were in a very central part of the island. Lisa was a very friendly, attentive, and low key landlord with great restaurant suggestions. Highly recommend!

A Happy and Comfortable Two Weeks at Birdsong

  • 5 of 5

We spent 2 weeks at Birdsong in September. We found a home away from home with a completely outfitted cabin that was very clean and well maintained; an owner who was exceptionally customer service oriented and responsive; and a location surrounded by pines close to everything in Acadia. We look forward to returning!!

Peace and quiet and birds

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful quiet property. Lots of wood, big picture window. Very close to Acadia. Most memorable part of the trip was having breakfast on the deck, little bird accidentally banged into the picture window and landed in my cereal bowl. Dazed for about 15 minutes, just sitting on my spoon. Great glassed in side room. Well stocked kitchen, had all the utensils we needed.

September in Birdsong

  • 5 of 5

Birdsong is a wonderful home away from home. We rented for 2 weeks, 13-27 September, 2014. The home is well decorated, with upscale appliances and virtually everything needed for an enjoyable stay. There are Bosch appliances throughout. The kitchen has 2 ovend and a gas stove. The pots, pans, cutlery, dishes and glassware were of exceptional quality and the home had everything needed, including a lobster pot. Even the barbecue on the rear deck has its own set of utensils.

Birdsong's location is close to Acadia National Park and many interesting coves and harbors. Southwest Harbor, Bar Harbor and numerous lobster pounds are nearby. This home is a perfect place from which to explore this beautiful destination.

We're VERIZON customers. Probably because of the mountainous terrain, our cell phones could only receive and send non-picture texts. We couldn't send or receive voice calls. But, once on the surrounding roads, full cell phone service was available.

The home's INTERNET service was very reliable. Satellite TV had basic service only. Although the set top box was hi-def, the older non-flat screen TV was not hi-def capable.

This home is amazingly comfortable, and is well equipped with quality cookware, dishes and glassware. It has comfortable beds, and is within easy driving distance of every imaginable venue.

Like most VRBO rentals, the lights are CFL bulbs. A bit dim in the evening, but they do cast a warm glow.

My wife, I and our little dog, thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
