About the property

Bach or holiday home, 4 Bedrooms, 1 Bathrooms, (Sleeps 8)

A very special historic holiday home right on beautiful Mangakuri Beach.

Mangakuri is a holiday paradise for swimming, boogie boarding, fishing, surfcasting, boating, sunbathing, long beach walks and playing in the rock pools.

"Waione" has been in the same family for over a century. It was converted into a holiday house from the original farm woolshed in the 1930s.

There's a generous living room filled with historic photographs which has a big open fire; a roomy sun porch with great views out to sea and a large hall with a table tennis table. There's one bathroom with a bath and overhead shower and another hot shower outside.

The property is ideal for family holidays - it can easily and comfortably accommodate two families or up to 8 people. Pets may be allowed by negotiation.

The house has spacious decks front and back and a woodshed with a good supply of firewood.

There are plenty of board games, cards and bach books.

This is a much loved holiday home on a magical beach. Many families who book a holiday at 'Waione" keep on coming back.

Special conditions:

Families preferred.

Smoking allowed outside only.

Pets may be allowed, by negotiation.

Local cleaner may be available if requested ahead - her contact details are available from owner.

Crayfish pots available for use.

Extras: Use of firewood and crayfish pots (included); NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Clean the house and do the dishes before you leave; Bring your own linen (towels/sheets/tea towels);

Gorgeous setting in a quiet spot.

Gorgeous setting in a quiet spot. You have to be prepared for a bit of a drive, but it is well worth it. The bach is all the photos promise it to be rustic with all that is needed for a comfortable stay. There is heaps of room for a big group. Our extended family loved this place and we will be back.

Lovely charming house.

Lovely charming house. Wonderful reading material, beach on the doorstep. Kitchen well stoked with cutlery and great chopping boards. Only complaint is some of the beds had heaps of sand in them.

Both the house and the location were perfect for our family get a way.

  • 4 of 5

Both the house and the location were perfect for our family get a way. It catered for all from 5 months old through to 80 years. The beach provided lots to do and the house was large enough to have family time or to find a quiet space by yourself. Would definitely stay there again

Owner's Response: Thanks John, Glad you loved it. We've just been down to finish off painting the kitchen. The house was left in in great condition - much appreciated.

I would actually be happy to rate the bach as 5 star, however it is pretty rustic, original and authentic...if you love this style then it is for you!! The plumbing works well, lots of hot water, the oven and cook top were traditional and perfectly functional.. everything just worked!!

We had a winter retreat here and it was the best!
