About lauren klein
We bought this 7/8ths acre property in 1992, and built the cottage several years ago. The old house was built in 1903 and is part of Mill Valley's history. We have travelled a great deal, and are always happy to return home to this delightful setting! Grown children are sometimes around, and we currently have a cat that roams the garden sometimes, and a couple hens in their coop.
Why lauren klein chose Mill Valley
This property is close to San Francisco, and close to Mt. Tamalpais State Park -- a wonderful combination!

Exceeded our expectations
Lauren's cottage in picturesque Mill Valley is perfection. My family stayed for a month while relocating to the area and enjoyed ourselves immensely. The cottage offers both charm and modern conveniences, on a breathtaking property. My son enjoyed playing in the garden and visiting the chickens. I enjoyed the views! Lauren was a gracious and considerate host who went above and beyond to make our stay exceptional. Anyone who stays at Lauren's cottage is in for a lovely experience!
The owner had this cottage built a few years ago in her garden on her large hillside property. The cottage is well equipped. It has a picture window with lovely valley views framed by her trees. We have stayed several times and feel most fortunate to have such a charming landlady. The last time, she left us some jalapeno jam and I am afraid we are now addicted.
The cottage is situated in Mill Valley, a village minutes from the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco. Mill Valley touches the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and Mount Tamalpais with fabulous hiking and views. A deer trail runs on two sides of the cottage outside the fence. If you are an early riser, there is a good chance you will see deer less than 30 feet away.
There are a few small negatives: parking is limited; the hillside lane to the cottage is a narrow zigzag with heavy construction traffic; the cottage is on a hillside with many stairsteps.
My husband and I spent 3 months at Lauren's delightful cottage tucked neatly on the hillside and surrounded by a beautiful mature garden. We were entranced by the wildlife and incredible hiking right outside the door. Downtown Mill Valley less than a mile away and a perfect excuse for a moderate walk with great restaurants and a lovely theatre.
Lauren was the perfect host and although onsite next door we felt as if our experience in the cottage was totally private with dedicated parking and a separate gated entrance. We will definitely return and extend our sincerest gratitude for an amazing introduction to Mill Valley!
Wonderful cottage and owner
I have stayed at Lauren's cottage for multiple seasons. The cottage is situated in a beautiful part of Mill Valley with wonderful views and access to excellent hiking trails and downtown Mill Valley below. Lauren is a wonderful host. She made recommendations for activities and restaurants in Marin and also invited me to gatherings at her house. She is a special person. If you are lucky enough to stay at this wonderful cottage enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!
Lovely Cottage in Mill Valley
This is a lovely cottage in a wonderful setting that is convenient to downtown Mill Valley and the library. There are also good hiking and walking trails near by. The cottage has beatiful terraced gardens and the owner makes you feel right at home. I spent a month here and I will definitely be coming back.
Perfect cottage in a charming town!
We loved everything about the cottage, from the spacious, airy design of the separate living and bedroom to the enchanted gardens and terraces of the grounds. The owner has thought of everything with the cottage, and everything is new. The kitchen is fully stocked, the linens and towels nice and high quality, and the bathroom spotless with a huge shower and vanity area. There's even a washing machine! This quaint little cottage nestles into the terraced hillside and makes you feel part of the community from the moment you arrive. Make sure to watch for deer in the area, and check out the stars at night! San Francisco is a quick drive or ferry ride away, but Mill Valley makes it hard to want to leave. Highly recommend!
Great hiking on Mt Tam within walking distance-- Waterfall a mile away, and in the opposite direction, downtown Mill Valley is 7/10ths of a mile from cottage! The famous Dipsea stairs are half mile walk away (Annual race is in June). Mill Valley Art Festival (late September) is half mile away. The well-regarded Mill Valley Film Festival (early October) is centered downtown. The cottage is on the same property as a 1903 house.
