This home is owned by Steve and Henrietta Holbrooks. We are native North Carolinians and have always held a deep love and appreciation for the Blue Ridge Mountains. We've hiked many of the area trails and never missed a chance to tour the Blue Ridge Parkway. We've had great times camping there with our children and other families, sharing adventures and making memories. Now, as 'empty nesters', we've taken up kayaking, traveling, and gaining an appreciation of the culture & history of the NC Mountains. We stayed in Knob View for the first time in August 2013 and fell in love with the home immediately. The long range views along with its serenity and tranquility were so unique. We also have friends who stayed with us who, after experiencing the area, purchased land and built a vacation home nearby (VRBO #865183).

Asheville has always been one of our favorite destinations. The area offers something for everyone. There's a vibrant arts culture with artisans and performers that bring the downtown to life after dark. It has beautiful architecture, fabulous shops, restaurants, and a booming craft beer industry. For those who prefer smaller towns, Black Mountain and Weaverville are popular destinations nearby. There's the Biltmore House, Gardens, and Winery which are a must see. Those who enjoy watersports will find a canoe/kayak outfitter just 20 minutes away on the French Broad River. And of course, the natural beauty that surrounds you explains why The Blue Ridge Parkway has been the most visited 'park' in the US every year since 1949.
Knob View Retreat offers the perfect retreat following a day exploring the Asheville area. It's only 15 minutes from downtown but seems 'worlds away'. We enjoy the privacy and quiet, you can hear the birds chirping, the squirrels rustling through the leaves, and the wind blow. At dusk the sunsets over the mountain range are to die for. At night the crickets will sing you to sleep. And of course there are mountain views everywhere you look! Ahhhhh
Our third stay at this wonderful home in Asheville and the owners keep making improvements on an already excellent experience! Convienently located, very well appointed, and great mountain views! We will gladly return!!!
Everything about this house was perfect. When we walked in, we felt like we were home. The house was immaculate, spacious for a family of five, and nicely decorated for the holidays. The location was central to all of the areas we visited during our stay, Black Mountain, Dupont Forest, Asheville, and Mars Hill. The road leading to the house was a little intimidating for the first drive up (for a Florida driver), but not a problem at all! Our favorite part was the incredible views from the patio! We would highly recommend this house for visitors to the Asheville area!
This house is the perfect Asheville getaway. The porches are fantastic with a panoramic view of the mountains! The house was decorated beautifully for Christmas and sweet touches of hospitality were everywhere. We loved that all three rooms had their own bathroom for convienece and privacy. The gas fireplace kept us toasty and though we didn't use the hot tub, we loved it's placement on the deck. I would recommend this cabin to anyone wanting to stay close to Asheville.
Beautiful home with amazing views from every room. It was really nice to have a large full bathroom in each bedroom! Easy access to downtown Asheville and the Biltmore. The property is pretty private/secluded with just one home next door (up the hill). The owner is very quick to respond to any questions you have. I would definitely recommend this cabin!
Our family decided to visit the Biltmore over Thanksgiving this year. We have stayed in a number of rental homes over the years in various parts of the country and this home is definitely one of our favorites. The kitchen was bigger than it looked in pictures and was suitable for cooking Thanksgiving dinner; we were surprised to see the double oven which helped us cook multiple dishes while the turkey was cooking. The bedrooms and bathrooms were spacious.
A number of people comment about the road up the mountain to the home. While it is steep, it really isn't much to worry about. It's wide enough and paved in the area where it might be difficult to get some traction. I suspect it would be difficult to use during a snow storm, but otherwise just keep your tires turning and you will be fine.
My favorite part of the house was the wrap-around deck and hot tub. There are tremendous views from the deck and hot tub. The cool, crisp nights were perfect for sitting in the hot tub looking up at millions of stars with basically no noise to be heard. This house was a great escape, but only minutes to Asheville and the Biltmore. Our only regret is we couldn't stay longer.
This is a very nice, clean, spacious rental, with updated kitchen and bathrooms. It's true that the pictures don't do it justice. It also has the best stocked kitchen we've ever encountered (we've rented about 10 houses). Two coffee pots (one automatic drip and one Keurig) and double oven is available in the kitchen. Owner provides two rolls of toilet paper for each of the 3.5 bathrooms. Deck views are spectacular. Pisgah brewing company is about 9 minutes away. Our GPS's had no problem finding the location, although the navigation systems in our Iphone and Toyota disagreed on the best exit from I-40.
Most important to us, given that we were celebrating a birthday at Curate (best restaurant in Asheville, early recommendations required) on one of the evenings, was that Uber serves the area. Although I couldn't find an UberXL for the trip into Asheville for the six of us, we were able to request two regular Ubers which arrived within 5 minutes of each other (plan on them taking about 25 minutes to get to the house if they are in Asheville). There was no problem finding an UberXL in Asheville for the journey back. Cost was about $30 each way.
There is a random dog that comes to the back door and looks at you through the glass forlornly. He has tags and is friendly, but his ribs sticking out makes you want to feed him (which we didn't do). One of our group saw a big black bear on the road heading up the mountain. We had no problem with the steepest parts of the incline since concrete has been poured to create a very smooth surface.
