About Michael White

This home is owned by Steve and Henrietta Holbrooks. We are native North Carolinians and have always held a deep love and appreciation for the Blue Ridge Mountains. We've hiked many of the area trails and never missed a chance to tour the Blue Ridge Parkway. We've had great times camping there with our children and other families, sharing adventures and making memories. Now, as 'empty nesters', we've taken up kayaking, traveling, and gaining an appreciation of the culture & history of the NC Mountains. We stayed in Knob View for the first time in August 2013 and fell in love with the home immediately. The long range views along with its serenity and tranquility were so unique. We also have friends who stayed with us who, after experiencing the area, purchased land and built a vacation home nearby (VRBO #865183).

Why Michael White chose Asheville Area

Asheville has always been one of our favorite destinations. The area offers something for everyone. There's a vibrant arts culture with artisans and performers that bring the downtown to life after dark. It has beautiful architecture, fabulous shops, restaurants, and a booming craft beer industry. For those who prefer smaller towns, Black Mountain and Weaverville are popular destinations nearby. There's the Biltmore House, Gardens, and Winery which are a must see. Those who enjoy watersports will find a canoe/kayak outfitter just 20 minutes away on the French Broad River. And of course, the natural beauty that surrounds you explains why The Blue Ridge Parkway has been the most visited 'park' in the US every year since 1949.

What makes this house unique

Knob View Retreat offers the perfect retreat following a day exploring the Asheville area. It's only 15 minutes from downtown but seems 'worlds away'. We enjoy the privacy and quiet, you can hear the birds chirping, the squirrels rustling through the leaves, and the wind blow. At dusk the sunsets over the mountain range are to die for. At night the crickets will sing you to sleep. And of course there are mountain views everywhere you look! Ahhhhh

Lovely property with amazing views -- we will be back!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of five adults enjoyed a long weekend at Knob View Retreat. The house has an unobstructed view of the mountains, and everything was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed coming home each day after exploring the area. The kitchen was well stocked and the living/dining areas had great views as did the three comfortable bedrooms. The hot tub, grill and ping pong table enhanced our visit, but sitting on the decks was the most fun! Our two small cars had no trouble with the road to the retreat. Our host left clear instructions and was quick to answer any questions. Everything about our stay was wonderful, and we can't wait to visit again.

Stunning Views!

  • 5 of 5

Our family could not have asked for a better vacation home! We wanted a place with beautiful views and this house was the perfect getaway. Views from every house in the home, house was well equipped, beautiful bedrooms and finishes, 2 decks offering stunning views with comfortable seating and a hot tub! Peaceful and remote, yet still easily accessible to Downtown Asheville and the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway with hiking trails and overlooks. Lake Lure/Chimney Rock area was about a 45-50 minute drive. This area offered additional family activities to do with our young children. Highly recommend staying at this beautiful home.

Very nice property and great location to Asheville area

  • 5 of 5

I could easily duplicate all of the positive comments in the prior reviews. I was pleasantly surprised by this property. The photos do not capture the top-quality feeling once at this home. Everything at this place was of high-quality from the furnishings down to the kitchen appliances, to the hot tub, to the grill, to the décor outside, to the etc., etc.

It was all very clean and well maintained. The linens, towels, and even the shampoo and body wash were a treat. There is ample space both inside and outside on the decks. The views of the mountains are very peaceful. There has been a lot of effort put into this place to make it a desirable destination. The entire transaction and communication was positive and timely. We would not hesitate to return and spend more time at this property. In fact, we hope to do so in the fall!

Outstanding getaway

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from our extended weekend at this retreat/home - it was outstanding! The house fit our needs perfectly - the location in the mountains (perfect), location to Asheville (perfect), set up of the house for three couples (perfect), the hosts/owners communication prior to our arrival and during our stay (perfect), the hot tub (perfect)! We could not have been happier or asked for more with this property. Looking forward to another visit to the area and this home will be our first choice!! Thank you to the owners, you provided us with a wonderful place to create very fond memories.

Beautiful property - great hot tub

  • 5 of 5

We loved our visit to Asheville. This is a gorgeous home with nearly every amenity you could want. My only wish was they had extra towels, especially for the hot tub. We had to run the (small) washer every day if we were planning to use the hot tub and also shower. Everything was clean and well kept. The Keurig was a nice touch and the kitchen was stocked with every utensil and even basic spices etc you could need. We cooked in for many dinners and it was great. There are stairs but it's still kid friendly - our 11 month old did great and loved the hot tub. He used the high chair they provided and they even had a pack N play (we had our own but it was nice they had one). We'll definitely return and recommend this to our friends!
