Worst EXPERIENCE - ATTORNEY involved - Owner of home lives on property -BAD
The owner of the property lives next door. THIS IS VERY BAD. The wife doesn't treat you like a hotel guest. She treats you like she is doing YOU a favor by letting you stay in her cottage because in her opinion is 'so nice'.
During my second visit with her on the property (the first one lasted 5 mins) she talked of money and how much they have with their fruit business. She made sure to tell me it is in the millions....hmm...ok...I could own a million dollar home but she wouldn't care to ask. She will treat you like you are beneath her anyway.
When I arrived at the property, the payment did not go through due to technical issues with HomeAway/VRBO. I had customer service on the phone with her (the property owner) to work it out. But because SHE got frustrated with customer service and didn't want to deal with it, she forced me to pay outside of HomeAway/VRBO and directly to her.
I did as she asked and paid her the agreed amount and had her sign an agreement. I gave her two checks, one for each month and the first month included service fees. I figure we are finally square.
Out of the blue, a week after she received my two checks then cashed my check for the first month, I get a new VRBO payment request from her for the second month at an increased amount of 60% more than the agreed amount. WHAAT?? Keep in mind, we had a SIGNED agreement that SHE signed for the amount and duration of my stay. But NOW she decided she wanted to go through Home Away on the second month. Because of all of VRBO's fees they add on for renters, she was basically forcing me to pay her fees during my second month stay.
I would not pay the increased amount as that was not the agreed to amount before I even arrived at her below average place. She told me to leave after the first month. I gladly did but not without contacting an attorney. I can easily take her to civil claims court and win per my attorney.
During my stay, she forced me to keep my AC off during the day and have it turn on only when I was at the property. Because she lives next door she can hear it kick on, so therefore ALWAYS in your business.
Also the place is INFESTED with SPIDERS/BUGS. They clearly don't spray for insects. I spent two hours cleaning and spraying home defense to keep the bugs out. She should not be allowed to rent to the public due to her actions. NOT WORTH IT!!
We have read the complaint from our house guest, were very sorry she has left with a bad experience, we have never had a guest respond to our property, or us in this manner. But we are not surprised. It has never been the exception that you can show up and not pay through HomeAway. First uncomfortable problem. Showing up 3 hours early while dusting and damp mopping is going on, and asking to move in then, saying the home looks immaculate, which it was. We have wonderful housekeeping service, no complaints till now.. We also have the grounds sprayed once a month. The real issue here was the dog. Dogs must be walked and kenneled while you are away for the day, dog feces must be picked up, we supply you with the bags to do that. No dogs on the bed or the furniture. No exceptions. We have down furnitre, white bedding , it is not dog friendly, nor can we expect future guest to sleep in a bed that a dog has slept in.
We only book and pay through HomeAway. We think the service they provide is excellent, Please don't ask us to do otherwise.
We live in an area where our local utilities ask that we set our themostats at 80 if you are going to be gone during the time of your stay for any length of time., the home is cool at 78 , the themostate is set . the slate flooring helps keep the home cool and the trees and river drop the temp of the cottage. There are many cooling centers in our area set- up for those who have no cool place to go, so we are greatly concerned when there are rolling outages in our area.
Lastly payment, for room, taxes, dog sitter, all must be paid up front.
If you are leaving early, please let us know, we are a gated property and when you pack up and leave in the middle of the night the gate alarm goes off the same as if a buglar has arrived and broken in.
. We do keep every tex message we are sent from you, we copy, and place it in the guest name folder, anything that is pertaining to you from you or about you goes into that folder. From one to a total of however many you or homeaway sends .All non payment records from homeaway are also copied and saved . Hopefully we have no file at the end of your stay, as it should be. Happy Trails Travelers, Be Safe.
