Comfortable get-away-from-it-all cabin 30 min outside of Traverse City! Take a deep breath, relax & throw a line in the water on private Pickeral Lake. Fish for blue gill, crappie, bass, etc right off the dock or from the provided row boat. Or take a spin around this quiet lake in the kayak we have also provided.
The cabin is located on Pickeral Lake--a smaller, No Wake lake--nestled in the trees and surrounded by wildlife. Enjoy s'mores in the firepit or coffee on the screened-in porch.
There is a rowboat & a kayak for you to use during your stay. Have a motorized boat you would like to bring? Fife Lake is literally right down the road-use the public boat launch, spend the day on a larger lake then you can retreat back to the cabin to enjoy the peace & quiet of Pickeral Lake.
Cozy 2 bedroom cabin sleeps 4 (up to 6 on a sofa bed), pet welcome with prior approval. (double bed, bunk beds, pullout sofa) Window AC units and a wall heater for your comfort.
Use the 'Book It Now' button to reserve this peaceful cabin in the woods for yourself!
We had a great stay at The Fish House--the fishing was plentiful & the screened in porch was divine for watching the sunset. The photos are accurate--although it is much greener now than when they were taken. My husband & I really loved exploring the area. We would recommend staying here for a real Up North Cabin experience!
I was overall happy with this cabin for a small family on a low budget vacation. There were a few points of disappointment, but I had let them slide. Most people seem happy with the property, so I thought my complaints were perhaps anomalies. I didn't bother the property manager about them, nor did I leave a review- I didn't have anything stellar or terrible to say.
I will say that the experience was left on a bad note for me when I saw a negative review that Colleen had left for me on my profile, citing uncleanliness (which I could definitely argue about, but let's just say I completely disagree). Suspiciously, she had waited until one hour before the review deadline to leave this rating for me, perhaps hoping that I would not be able to leave a negative review in return. I called, left a voice mail, a text message, and a VRBO message for her, hoping to hear her reasoning. Three days later, I sent another text informing her that I had extended my time to leave a review. It was then that she responded to me. After that, our dealings were professional and informative, but I still couldn't help but question her motive- was it to have a satisfied customer? or just to get a good review?
For the record, the original complaints I had, and the reason I did not leave a positive review to begin with, were:
1. A "rotten egg" smell of hydrogen sufide in the water source- more prominent with showers and hot water use
2. The lake is not for swimming. The mud is the consistency of poop and my children would not go in it. Fife lake is great, though.
3. The neighbors are very nice people, but they really are in close proximity, and one of their dogs is aggressive (not mean, just excitable). We are a family of dog lovers, but we couldn't let our kids play outside without us while he was around.
To be fair, the cabin is well equipped and clean and comfortable. I really am quite neutral when weighing the good and bad of this experience. And no, I never addressed the above complaints with Colleen. I was going to ignore them, but I guess I changed my mind.
I cannot even begin to describe what a great time we had at Colleen's Fish House! So comfy, so pretty, great fishing, peaceful, quiet, clean, nice neighbors, lovely scenery, and of course perfect weather this Labor Day too! Thank you so much!
My husband and i, and our 2 dogs, rented this cabin on the lake for a week for our honeymoon. We needed something that would accept our 2 big dogs without charging us an arm and a leg. Colleen was nothing but nice about it. She didn't request a bunch of information or a deposit for the dogs. The house was impeccable, clean and tidy. We actually brought things that were already there for us. The lake was perfect for kayaking and boating (which my husband did pretty much every day). The area is quiet and peaceful and it was just what we needed to get away from our busy, stressful jobs. The beds are comfy to sleep in as well. We didn't go out an explore very much in the area of Fife Lake. We traveled to the next town over, Kingsley, for pizza. The pizza from A. Papano's Pizza was very very good. We definitely recommend it. We went to Traverse City for an afternoon. It was convenient because it was only about a 25 minute drive. I guess the only downfall/recommendation i think i would have is that a curtain or blinds need to be installed in the living room area. When you are relaxing on the couch when the sun is setting, it shines directly into your eyes, which makes it very difficult to read, nap, or watch TV. But otherwise, my husband and i are thinking this will be an annual vacation to this home every year!
Always wonderful staying here. The cabin was very clean. Everything there that you need to have an outstanding stay. Not that we needed anything, but Connie is always available to help, get you anything or answer questions. Some non-fisher said there were no fish in Pickeral Lake. News to us! Caught lots of fish, one large bass 18-20" 4 pounds. We have now rented there 5- times. We will be back next year. Very pieceful place. Met the neighbors next door, greatest people you could ask for.
You would be crazy not to want stay there, and will wish you could live there.
Pretty setting. There were several small problems with the property. We had to make the beds and the sheets set out on the queen bed were not the right size so I had to hunt down the right size sheets. The light bulb in the shower was burned out so the shower was very dark and the owner was not able to tell us how to fix it.
It's advertised that the small lake has good fishing but it's extremely shallow and has very few fish. My husband was not able to catch any fish at all.
We were unable to see the lake very well from the deck due to extreme overgrowth of vegetation.
The neighbors were sanding and sawing the whole time we were staying so it was too loud to sit on the deck.
Overall we had a good stay but I don't think we'd visit again.
We still love this property, but was not as clean as we had been used to. We had to clean the couch as there was pet hair all over it. The kitchen sink also seemed not to have been cleaned. All floors had been vacuumed & cleaned. & clean bedding. Maybe because such a busy schedule, cleaning not as thorough. However, we had a wonderful week. It is such a beautiful property, quiet and relaxing. We enjoyed the boat and deck/porch immensely.
