Keuka Lake House Rental Photos and Description

3 Large Bedrooms, 1 Bath & Amazing Setting Right on the Lake! Pet Friendly.

Welcome to Water's Edge!

***Winter 2016 brought exciting renovations: Brand new kitchen and bathroom, plus fully renovated main level.***

Water's Edge is a beautifully renovated cottage set right on Seneca Lake. It's just minutes from dozens of wineries, breweries and the quaint town of Penn Yan. With more than 90' of beachfront, a lush and level yard, a covered porch, picnic table, plus a 30 foot dock -- it is the perfect spot for you Finger Lakes vacation.

The main level features a fully renovated 'great' room with the kitchen, dining area, and family room - all surrounded by 3 walls of windows offering a panoramic view of one of the widest sections of Seneca Lake. The picturesque fireplace made of local river stone and new tongue & groove pine ceiling bring the natural beauty indoors. The side door leads to a private covered outdoor patio for another spot to relax in the shade or away from the rain (should Mother Nature send some your way.)

At Water's Edge you can get away from it all, yet still have the comforts of home:

- The new kitchen features granite counters, all-new stainless steel appliances, new cabinets, a built-in microwave, full-sized refrigerator, toaster, coffee maker, coffee grinder, blender, baking sheets, mixing bowls, utensils, grill tools and more.

- Settle into the cushy leather sofa and love seat to enjoy the view, play a game, read a book, or - if you just can't leave technology behind - watch one of the hundreds of channels on the Satellite TV or use you own devices with the complimentary WiFi.

- As you head upstairs you will pass the brand new bathroom which is now one of the most luxurious rooms in the house. In 2016, we greatly expanded the shower and finished the whole room with high end ceramic tile, lighting and fixtures. It may not be huge, but it is beautiful.

Upstairs you have a sitting area with a queen size futon sofa/bed. Each of the 3 bedrooms feature comfortable queen beds (new in 2015). Plus, we replace the bed linens, pillows and bath towels with new sets each season. (All bed/bath linens are included with the rental.) We've decorated each room with beautiful prints taken by a local, professional photographer - and furnishings you will enjoy. Dressers, mirrors, side tables and lamps make each room both comfortable and functional.

And the views, oh the views! Leave the drapes open a bit and you might just catch the sunrise over the lake.

Aside from all of the cottage renovations, the best feature may very well be the lot.

Water's Edge is located on a private lot at the end of a private road with only 4 other homes. The flat, level yard is perfect for games of badminton, whiffle ball, corn-hole, frisbee - or for just lounging around a campfire.

You get more than amazing lake views -- you get direct, easy access to the lake! The private beachfront is great for wading and swimming or launching a kayak or canoe. And the dock gives you a spot to secure and launch larger boats or jet skis. Whether you bring your own boat or rent one, there is a boat launch just a few minutes down the road.

There is truly nothing like spending quality time at the lake with family and friends!

About Todd Cerino

I was first introduced to Seneca Lake by my wife in 1994. She 'convinced' me to visit the lake with her family because she was from Rochester and her family had been going to Seneca Lake since the 1930s. So, I reluctantly went along. When I got there I was absolutely floored by the beauty of the region and by the vast scale and size of the lake. From the first day I arrived in 1994, I knew I wanted to spend as much time in the Finger Lakes Region as humanly possible.

Todd Cerino purchased this house in 2014

Why Todd Cerino chose Keuka Lake

Our home truly has a unique combination of accessibility, privacy, level yard, lots of beach frontage, and ZERO steps to the beach. It absolutely is the perfect property where you can gather with friends & family - and has the perfect location for you to unwind, relax and become clear-minded.

What makes this house unique

Our home offers incredible views of the lake from every room. You are intimately close to the 'Waters Edge' - so much so that the gentle lapping of the waves at the shoreline from your bedroom window will undoubtedly lull you to sleep each night. Last, the level yard allows you to spread out and enjoy family games of badminton, corn-hole, frisbee, etc. As soon as you step foot onto Waters Edge you'll immediately immerse yourself in "The Lake Life" @ Seneca Lake.

waters edge

  • 5 of 5

Our time at “Waters Edge” was very peaceful and relaxing. The reservation process was simple, and the house was exactly as we expected - not a new home, but very clean and true to the photos. We have two small children, so we had 4 at the house. My wife and I took advantage of the quiet time before the kids woke up each morning to make coffee & watch the sunrise. All I can say is WOW! Incredible views across the water every day. Really relaxing - especially while sitting & listening to the gentle lapping of the waves on the beach. The entire time we were there the kids alternated between swimming and playing in the yard. The house is located right in the middle of the western side of the lake, so it was ideally situated along the wine trail. Penn Yan is a 10 minute drive from the house. We also took the owner up on several suggestions for dinner spots. The Himrod Eagle was great, and Seneca Farms fried chicken in Penn Yan was phenomenal. We made two quick trips to Watkins Glen State Park to hike the Gorge Trail and also did the Outlet Trail starting in Dresden. The house is centrally located to everything. We ended up visiting 10 wineries total. Be sure to note that most of them close at 5pm. A few are open until 6. Fire pits by the water each night with S’mores was a great way to end each day. Great weather capped off a great week!

Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

My family had a great time at Waters Edge. We are a family of 4 with two sons - ages 12 and 14. The kids not only loved swimming and fishing in the lake, they also had a blast playing frisbee and badminton in the yard, exploring the nearby stream and making bonfires in the fire pit. The cottage was very cozy & clean and the room sizes were very generous. The owner was great to deal with throughout the booking process and was easy to get a hold of while we were there and we called with questions about nearby places to eat and where we could rent kayaks for the boys. The location was close to Penn Yan and Watkins Glen - which was important for grocery runs. We thought we’d get out and do a lot more hiking and sightseeing, but we found ourselves relaxing at the house and not wanting to leave. The house is literally at the waters edge (very appropriate name for this house!) and the yard is flat and plenty big enough for whatever games the kids wanted to play. The house is located on a private lot at the end of the street - yet it is not isolated at all. We loved this house and we’ll be back!”

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words. We find that when we stay at the house we also end up ratcheting down the pace much more than we planned. Our kids also love swimming in the lake and exploring the yard and stream. Thanks again. We'd love to have you back next year! Todd.

Lot of potential but has some shortcomings

  • 3 of 5

Pros

- Great location on the lake, with a nice, private side yard

- Downstairs has a great view of the lake

- Open layout kitchen+dining+living room areas which makes for a cozy downstairs

- Easy booking process and a helpful, responsive owner

Cons

- The bathroom is not modern. That part of the home description is not accurate. The bathroom is small and cramped, and does not look like it has been renovated for a long time. While we did not see any mold, some in our group complained about a background moldy smell. There are no photos of the bathroom on HomeAway which is not an accident.

- While the photos of the other rooms are generally accurate, the rest of the house has not been renovated for a long time either. Clean, but old. Since the price of this home is a bit higher than some comparable rentals on Seneca (based on my research), something to think about.

- The covered outdoor patio was pretty dirty when we arrived and is not furnished. There are plenty of chairs, but no table. We ended up buying a folding table at Walmart.

- No kayaks included. This is clearly communicated in the home description, but nevertheless it's a con since renting 2 kayaks for a week cost $250.

This home has a ton of potential as a vacation rental, but it's either a bit overpriced as is, or needs some refurbishments to warrant the price.

Owner's Response: I'd like to thank this guest for their review of the house. First and foremost, I agree 100% with this guest's statement that "this home has a TON of potential as a vacation rental". As any owner of a lake front home will attest, there is always a project or two in the works/planning stages and improvements that can be made. I feel that we are about 90% there with this house. My family and our guests absolutely love spending time at the house, and enjoy all that the house has to offer. We own and manage 6 rental properties on Seneca Lake. The 3 characteristics that we consider most when evaluating lake house rentals are: #1. Location. This home has THE nicest & most private yard & beach for the money #2. Cleanliness. This is a VERY close #2. We have a fantastic team of housekeepers! #3. Bedding and linens. All of our bedding, linens and towels are less than a year old As for this guest's comments about the covered patio, I'm not sure what they expected to find. The patio is a simple, covered concrete patio located off the kitchen - and is broom-swept clean. The guest said they found "plenty of chairs" but claimed it was not furnished. The covered patio is meant to be a sitting area, not necessarily an outdoor dining area. We have a picnic table for outdoor dining. Last, we definitely don't advertise that canoes or kayaks convey with the rental. I am always happy to make recommendations for things to see and do in the area. Whenever I'm asked about the availability of canoes & kayaks I go out of my way to recommend to our guests that they reserve those items at Reagan's Canoe & Kayak Livery. Reagan's is great, they are close by, and they deliver & pick up right at the beach. Thanks again for the review! Regards, Todd. ***Please note: we have completed EXTENSIVE renovations since this review was submitted (during the winter of 2015-2016). This is essentially a BRAND NEW cottage. My partners are Class A contractors and they did the renovations themselves with high quality workmanship and attention to detail. Please feel free to call me with any Q's. Thanks! Todd.

Great place for a weekend away

  • 4 of 5

We stayed with our daughter and husband. It was a great spot for our long weekend with them. The house is close enough so you see and hear the water, which was lovely. The rental process was easy and the property was as depicted. Reagan's delivered canoes to the property which was a great option.

Poor maintenance/housekeeping

  • 2 of 5

We had some issues with our visit. The outside maintenance was atrocious. We're guessing we were the first guests of the season, though we were told we couldn't check in early because it was rented up to the day of our arrival and housekeeping needed that time to clean it. The grass was mowed but lots of limbs and branches you had to step over. Dead foliage lined the fence at the front of cottage. The back porch had a huge pile of leaves with a DEAD squirrel in it. Once inside I spent the first several minutes picking up dead millipedes and spiders. Tracks of windows filled with dead insects and flies. The bathroom shower had mold around the bottom seam and the trim was falling off. After stripping the beds our final day, we found dead crushed leaves under the sheets in the one bedroom. It's a shame because it's a great location and cottage could be so much more with some maintence. We won't go back, lots of other cottages.

Owner's Response: To clarify, these were our second HomeAway guests in 2015. We open the house on April 1st each year. Our first HomeAway guests of 2015 rented the house April 6-10. My family stayed at the house the next two weekends: April 17-20 & 24-27. We loved our time at the house and had family stop in from Rochester both weekends. The guests writing this review stayed at the house the weekend of May 22-24. I always tell our guests that we maintain a check-in of 4pm so our housekeepers have enough time to clean the house thoroughly in case we have a group departing on the day of their arrival. We had family scheduled to stay at the house prior to the arrival of this reviewer, but they had to cancel due to a change in their work schedule. In this case, I found out that our house keepers cleaned the house following my family's stay, but they confirmed that they did not go back to re-clean the house prior to the arrival of this reviewer. This is ENTIRELY my fault, and I take FULL ownership for not coordinating the additional cleaning with my housekeepers (who are an awesome group of local ladies!). Our house is literally sited right along the shore of Seneca Lake & we have woods that surround the house and the lot - as you can see in the photos. During the month of May the trees, shrubs and flowers literally explode and come to life at the lake. Over the course of the 4 weeks when the house was not rented or cleaned it really is no surprise that there were some flies and some insects that made their way in to the house. As for the sticks and limbs in the yard, I am sure they were the result of Spring storms that rolled through the region. The "dead foliage" this guest refers to is a flower bed that we are converting back to grass. I honestly do not have an answer for the squirrel. My head housekeeper went to the house right after I forwarded this review to her. She texted me photos of the house and wrote "no squirrel sighting". Last, I was in contact with this guest by text and email during her stay. While she requested additional linens, she did not mention anything about the cleanliness or the condition of the house or lot. If she had, I would have addressed the situation right away. ***Please note: we've completed EXTENSIVE renovations to the cottage since this review (during the winter of 2015-2016). This is essentially a BRAND NEW cottage. Please call me with any questions whatsoever. Thanks. Todd.

Well thought out amenities!

  • 5 of 5

Everything about this place was perfect. I left coffee and charcoal at home by accident and dreaded a trip to the store. Luckily both of these items were at the rental already. I don't think that's something they guarantee as an amenity but it saved my life. The children enjoyed fishing from the dock every day and kayaking. The neighbors were pleasant as well but the property is secluded enough to not have to worry about privacy anyway.Thank you so much for the great stay. We will be back!
