Our vacation home is located within a 10-mile radius of over 15 wineries, a distillery and two microbreweries. We are surrounded by vineyards and located on a fully-paved town road. Comfortably sleeps six in a 3-bedroom, Single Bath Cottage with a sleeper sofa to allow for eight guests; includes Screened-in Porch with view of the lake.

NOTE: Ideally, we would like our rentals to be a full week; please contact us if your plans are otherwise. (check-in is 3:30PM, check-out is 10:30AM)

About Eileen

My husband, Bruce, and I purchased this lakefront home in 2014 with the hopes of being able to 'semi-retire' here some day. We have both grown up in the Finger Lakes area and love boating on the water. I'm content to just relax on the front porch and read a book with a glass of wine at hand. Bruce loves to stay busy so he's always working at projects around the cottage. We hope you have the same enjoyment we have staying in our cottage.

I love the quaintness of the cottage as it brings back memories of my grandmother and a less hectic pace in life--she had the same painted floors, the beautiful cobalt and green glass that is plentiful in our area, and her flower gardens. I want to pass along that same relaxed feeling to our guests.

Nice rental but some items need to be noted

We had a nice week in the cottage however, there are a few things that I wish I knew going into the rental.

Pros: nice sitting area and fire pit near the lake, nice information about the area available

Cons: There are 7 'alerts' ... 1) The location is listed as lakefront when, in fact, it is lake view. To get to the lake you have to cross the road and walk down an inclined road. While we all could make the walk, someone older or with a physical issue might have issues getting to/from the lake. Lakefront to me means that I can walk out my door and I'm at the lake. 2) The bathtub faucet dripped A LOT the entire time we were there. I hated wasting all that water and hearing it. 3) Although technically you can sleep 8, there isn't seating for 8 in the kitchen or the living room without pulling chairs from around the house. The kitchen table isn't big enough for dinner for 8 and the living room only has a couch and chair (seating for 4). 4) The supplies in the kitchen are very old and need to be replaced. We cook a lot on vacation and I had to buy a better frying pan for the week. 5) This rental is listed as 'dog friendly' ... which it is. However, the neighbor has (beautiful) golden retrievers that are off the leash all the time when outside and they ran towards our dog. The one dog is not dog friendly so I felt like I had to sneak out to walk our dog. This should be noted. 6) Check out time was 10:00am and the owners were cutting the grass at 8:30am. This was uncomfortable. 7) Finally, the owners had personal issues and did not provide us wine, a tour, or really check in. We had to contact them about light bulbs and the drippy faucet. (We own a shore house that we rent and I always check in with our renters.)

Owner's Response: 1. Yes, the location is not directly on the lake but it is a very short walk down the path to the lake front. The road that our cottage is on is not busy, and it’s a dead end. I honestly consider it lake front. 2. We have had plans to replace the faucet but we have been incredibly busy with our construction company; it will be repaired before the start of this next rental season. 3. The kitchen is not very big but is comfortable enough to have a meal inside. There isn’t room for 8 chairs in the kitchen which is why we have provided alternate chairs within the cottage. The Table in the Dining Room opens up to seat at least six comfortably. We have picnic tables right outside the door to the kitchen that can seat many people. I would like to point out though, you had listed only 5 people to be using the cottage. 4. Kitchen supplies?????? 5. Our property is very dog friendly. We bring up our golden retrievers every weekend; they're very friendly and like to meet new dogs. I mean, they’re dogs… they don’t have manners like people, of course they are excited to meet a new dog and will greet accordingly. The pet addendum states that our dogs are home and not on their leashes; renters must agree to this addendum. The old “unfriendly” dog has unfortunately since passed away. 6. In our lease, it states that we may be on the property for upkeep. My husband is very busy and likes to get the weekend chores done early before it gets too warm. He figured that 8:30 am was a reasonable time to mow. 7. The personal issues that you are referring to was that the ceiling had collapsed in the area of our house where our son and his fiancé were living. We had to rush to get them relocated and try to clean the mess up as it had been raining that weekend and much of the ceiling had become saturated. I explained to you that we had an emergency and that was also why I did not reach out to you during your stay. I hope the answers clear things up for any understandings. I would also like to note that you were very pleasant every time you called and did not address these concerns to me during our conversations. I also am confused to why you would wait until December to review us when your stay was in August.

“Great place”

We rented this cottage for 4 days and it was absolutely great. The cottage was very cozy and equipped with everything we needed. The view of the lake was magnificent and the evenings were so peaceful. The kitchen was fully equipped and having a grill was great. The sunporch was great. Thank you for the hospitality. Would highly recommend.

Perfect Place to Unplug

This was our second summer getaway in the Finger Lakes region and we really enjoyed our time at the Peach Orchard cottage. Eileen and Bruce were very accommodating from the moment we arrived with Bruce giving us a tour of the property and surroundings to get us acclimated. The cottage was well equipped for a family of six and there were plenty of opportunities for our kids to get away from their "screens" and enjoy Seneca Lake. We had use of two kayaks (a two-seater and a single-seater), a dock, a firepit, and plenty of chairs down by the beach. There was a gorge with a waterfall a short walk from the cottage that our kids really loved. We hiked there every day! Having some familiarity with the Watkins Glen area from the year before, we knew there were opportunities a short distance from the cottage. We took advantage of one of those by renting a ski boat from a local marina. We took this out for a mini-tour of the southern end of the lake and dropped anchor a couple of times in shallow swimming areas for the kids. One word of caution - marinas are no longer allowed to rent or supply skis or tubes with the boats. This was something that changed between the time I reserved the boat (in late May) and the time we used it. We still enjoyed the boat, but were a little disappointed not to have a tubing option for the kids. We would recommend this cottage for a relaxing, enjoyable getaway with plenty to do for all members of your family or group.

Not As Advertised

I'm glad the other reviewers had a lovely stay. My newlywed wife and I do not share their positive sentiments about this property or its owners.

When we arrived, the owner pointed out that a previous tenant had just left, and it was clear that the owner, who asked asked us to wait for two hours so she could clean the place, did not do any serious cleaning. The whole house was filthy.

Cooking utensils for the "fully stocked kitchen" were sparse and not properly cleaned. The oven was disgusting, and lacked proper heat controls, but had spider webs and some kind of noxious chemical heavily coating the inside. We had to clean the stove and oven ourselves before using it. The outdoor grill was in no better condition -- filthy from previous tenants' usage.

Mold in the bathtub and shower curtain was months-old and excessive. The tub dripped incessantly. The health department would have a field day in the basement, which reeked of mold and mildew. When we couldn't figure out how to work the TV and called the owner, she was unable to help us. Most of the light fixtures did not even have working light bulbs.

We have photos to prove how we found the place.

The final insult was the need for multiple emails to the owner requesting the return of the security deposit. This despite her text thanking us for how we left the place, neat and clean. The owner finally returned our security deposit only when threatened with legal action.

We planned our visit months in advance, and expected a warm and clean place where we could enjoy one another's company, and cook for ourselves, since there are few restaurants in the area. The region is beautiful and we'd love to visit it again, but we will seek properly managed and maintained lodging elsewhere.

Owner's Response: Just a few words: a) the renters were to check in at 3:30PM; they arrived at 1:00PM , unexpectedly. I was still in the process of cleaning. b) The house was not filthy at all, although it may have been cleaned in a rush (see a) c) as for the TV, he wanted to see a DVD; he's right, I couldn't understand what he had changed on the set-up as it was working the previous week, he called at 9PM, and I was located 45 minutes away. d) there were plenty of lights, one lightbulb was out in the kitchen and he said no bother e) I had requested a signed rental agreement; he never provided that so I had no mailing address with which to mail a refund; I finally figured out how to get the refund out to him through Homeaway and did so. This man's wife was lovely, he however was a bit difficult.

Great Location, Friendly Owners and neighbors

I must start out saying the owners are very friendly and accommodating. We were a party of 4 adults in for a weekend. We had emailed about an early check-in if possible and we were glad to hear we could get in early. The home has all you need to cook in or grill outside. The fire pit by the lake was awesome, and they supplied "tons" on wood for us to burn. The area is quiet and on a paved road so it is easy in, easy out. Very close to one of our favorite restaurants (Stone Cat). We were grilling and ran out of propane, the owners were there in two minutes with a replacement! Simply awesome. As we are dog lovers we found it fun to have the neighbors and owners dogs around to play with. We had left our dog at home, but he will be all in next trip.

Had a lovely stay

We really enjoyed our stay. The location is wonderful, with views of either the lake in the front yard or a vineyard in the backyard. It was great to be able to bring our dogs with us--and both the dogs and our kids had a fabulous time down by the lake. It's a great location and a charming little house at a great price.
