warm cozy cottage in a spectacular location

  • 5 of 5

Philomenas cottage was just what we were looking for - a little getaway in beautiful countryside. We felt right at home in the little cottage which was clean and had everything we needed. She and her daughter were welcoming and helpful.

A short walk away was an amazingly beautiful hike along the sea - we cut through the meadow (two track road) to the Blasket Island center where a map of the hike was available.

We spent another wonderful day on Great Blasket Island The boat is a short walk from the cottage.

Our nightly routine was a glass of wine and some cheese and crackers out on the picnic table looking at the sea before going in to light a fire and cook (or riding into town for dinner).

There is a firm four night minimum policy and a 90 day cancellation policy but you

ll want to stay longer :)

Dear Philomena,

We enjoyed your cosy cottage very much.

All was fine, wie missed nothing.

Perfectly equipped, especially the washing- machine and the dryer.

I am very tall, maybe the bed for me and my wife could be a little bit taller.

We love Dingle.

Wishing you the best, especially health.

Beautiful Spot in A Beautiful Place

  • 5 of 5

We've just been here for 2 days and are so excited to have 5 days still left! This cottage is absolutely perfect for a family of 4 - the location is exactly what we had hoped for. Our evening walks as the sun set were experiences that we only dreamed we would have in Ireland... nothing but the song birds and lambs up on the hillside. You're away from it all, yet close enough to everything you need. We keep gasping in delight around every bend - it is just so beautiful here. The cottage has everything you need to be comfortable and is very clean and bright with lots of natural light and a cozy atmosphere. It's in a friendly neighborhood with kids over the back hedge who love to play! We're delighted to have had the chance to stay here and highly recommend it - so happy we decided to stay outside of Dingle and experience this "real piece of Ireland".

The most magical three months

  • 5 of 5

Now that it's over, what can we say about our three perfect months living in this cottage, Baile Na Ratha in Dunquin? It almost seems a dream. Could it have been so perfect? It was. Words fail as I try to do justice describing just how magical these months were for us. It goes without saying that Philomena, Alec and Sharon are the most gracious and kind hosts one can hope to have. They're attentive and helpful when needed and equally respectful of your privacy. As our stay in Dunquin was long-term, we were fortunate to discover they’re also the sort of people you wish could be your "real" friends back home- truly wonderful people. The cottage, too, was just as we hoped. Sweet, cozy and perfectly appointed, we wanted for nothing. Most mornings we'd start the day with a coal fire, a cup of tea and a peek-a-boo view of the Wild Atlantic Way just down the road. We lived in the cottage from January through March so we had a fair share of wild, Irish storms, which we loved. We marveled to see waves bigger than we'd ever seen and colors in the ocean and sky that were simply heavenly (and unrivaled in any of our other travels.) But for any stormy weather, we also had an equal number of lovely days – many more than expected. When the sun comes out on the Dingle Peninsula, be ready to stand amazed: it’s like nothing you’ve ever seen. (You know you’ve found a special place when even the locals marvel at the scenery.) We were never at a loss for things to do and see. Often, in the afternoons - rain or shine - we'd venture out for a walk or for a drive. We're explorers at heart and Dunquin and the greater Dingle Peninsula are an explorers dream. Just walk out the front door of the cottage and you’ll have to choose which nearby wonder to see. Turn left and head up the bohereen for a walk to the top of Mount Eagle and stunning panoramic views of all the peninsula…or down the road and over the bridge to a beautiful and nearly-always deserted beach…or across the way to meander along the most quintessential and dramatic oceanside cliffs...Beauty is everywhere. If you like winding roads, sweet streams, wild beaches, green hillsides and friendly, welcoming people, you’ll love it here, too. We traveled all over this beautiful country and we loved it all – but nothing matches this perfect little spot in Dunquin. Thank you for a most amazing winter at Baile Na Ratha.

A cool spot on Dingle

  • 5 of 5

We loved the cottage! The location was a bit of a challenge to find , but Philomena's daughter Sharon, who was charming, was there to help. There were 4 of us, and we had plenty of room. The kitchen was well stocked with equipment for food preparation. The fireplace ,with peat! added the Irish ambiance we were looking for. A wonderful community to explore with great hikes, towns and scenery.
