About Denise Allen

Two professionals who fell in love with Cape Breton and want to share it with the world.

Why Denise Allen chose Cape Breton Island

The Grove offers all amenities with a private beach (owned) for guests who can swim, sunbathe and enjoy a small fire. The home is new, modern and within walking distance to Baddeck and Bell Bay Golf. We offer a fire pit on the property for adult enjoyment. We also have little things available that travellers appreciate - spices and laundry soap for example. We know what it's like to organize a meal away from home. No sterile hotel settings here - great views and manicured lawns with abundant wild flowers and birding.

What makes this bungalow unique

Guests of the Grove enjoy a PRIVATE beach with quiet enjoyment atmosphere, absolutely no smoking anywhere on the property, and no use of chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Natural beauty and an abundance of wildflowers and birds.

We had a wonderful experience at The Grove!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful home and grounds! Just what we needed for our family's vacation. Denise was awesome giving us great tips on what to see and where to go and ensuring that we had everything we needed...and more. The home was impeccable and had all the amenities to make it a relaxing and enjoyable experience. Very central to everything in Cape Breton we were able to make the most out our weeks stay! We would definitely come back!

The Grove was true relaxation!

  • 5 of 5

Upon arrival, Denise greeted us with a warm Cape Breton welcome. She gave us a tour of the house and showed us everything it had to offer. The house was immaculate, beautiful, and comfortable. The tranquil porch, yard, and view made it impossible not to relax and enjoy. We cannot wait to go back to the Grove next year!

Wish I were there now...

“Why stay in a hotel when, for about the same price, you can have a whole house?” That was my thought when I booked the Grove. We had just stayed in a B&B on PEI for several nights and were ready for more privacy and some home-cooked meals. As others have mentioned Baddeck is an excellent base for exploring Cape Breton and the Highlands. (This was our first visit.) It has a good grocery store, restaurants, shops and activities like sailing tours and hiking. We drove the Cabot Trail, having lunch in Pleasant Bay and stopping for ice cream at the lighthouse in Neil’s Harbour. We also went hiking in Mabou and visited the Glenora Distillery, all an easy drive from the Grove. But perhaps the best memories might be just of having an early morning cup of coffee on the covered porch while watching the clouds move over the lake.

The house itself has a large open main room with views down to the lake. It is nicely decorated with modern furnishings. The kitchen is really well equipped and a joy to prepare meals in; the owners have thought of pretty much everything. They (Denise and Chris) were just a text or a phone call away if anything was needed (it wasn’t). The yard is attractive and well cared for, with patches of wild flowers off to the side and potted plants on the deck. We’ll remember our stay at the Grove fondly for a long time to come.

Ideal location, beautiful setting/home

  • 5 of 5

You can't find a better location if you are looking for a base to tour Cape Breton and the Cabot Trail. Denise & Chris are ideal hosts and this house is beautiful and well equipped. The site has a breathtaking view of water and is located just up the road from town with everything you need to enjoy your stay. The area is very interesting, who knew Alexander Graham Bell was so prolific? We enjoyed everything that the area had to offer and the house was first class. Book this!

If you're in Baddeck, stay here!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous stay at Denise Allen's wonderful home in Baddeck. Perfectly located to be a base for our Cape Breton day trips, the property is comfortable, has new fixtures and plenty of room. It was very convenient to have everything on one level so my 83-year-old mother could get around with no trouble. We especially enjoyed using the grill most nights, and the fire pit enhanced our enjoyment of the evenings. The view of the lake was also splendid. We can't recommend this property highly enough.
