Charming, Peaceful, and All the Comforts

  • 5 of 5

We loved every minute of our stay at the beautiful 'Sunrise Cottage'. It was welcoming and comfortable, private and very charming. I especially enjoyed the beautiful little garden that's connected to the cottage patio. The hosts were incredibly thoughtful and I appreciated their willingness to accommodate the requests we made about the beds.

I would highly recommend this cottage for anyone looking for a quieter place in Victoria - that's still pretty close to town.

Looking forward to our next visit!

Cozy, clean and perfectly located!

  • 5 of 5

Had a really marvelous week enjoying the cottage, storybook garden and the clean fresh ocean air! Fabulous spot surrounded by nature with all the amenities of our favorite hotels, including a claw foot bathtub...plus kitchen!

Since WIFI gives me headaches, it's great that we could turn it off at night, unlike hotels... We're already planning for our next visit!

Comfy, private, beautiful cottage...

  • 5 of 5

This cottage and the surrounding property is perfect for a week of relaxing and enjoying Victoria. Mary and Michael are wonderful hosts, and their cottage and the gardens reflect their nurturing attention they give to their guests. From the moment we stepped inside, we felt welcome. The cottage is cozy and comfortable, and the patio is peaceful and private. You are just steps from the sea and beautiful views of the mountains that surround it. I hope we can return someday!

Owner's Response: We are so lucky to have met over the years so many gracious and enthusiastic guests in our cottage. The Krueger's were charming and we enjoyed them immensely. Mr. K. even washed my car along with his in the driveway. That was very impressive.

It's is as cozy as it looks.

  • 5 of 5

The Sunrise Garden Cottage was perfect for us Californians looking to escape the heat and fires. The setting is fantastic as well as the gardens surrounding the cottage. We had dinner on the patio several evenings and a bald eagle joined us in the tall fir tree near the cottage. Driving into Victoria and other sites was easy and we loved coming back to the cottage every day. We highly recommend staying.

Charming and private cottage in upscale neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

The Garden Cottage is as it name suggests part of a wonderful garden, and the design with a wall of windows facing that garden give both a sense of openness and privacy. The decor is as vintage as the building itself, yet it is comfortable for a couple staying a week or more. Access to the attractions of Victoria is easy (though a car is a must) but you are staying in a quiet waterfront neighborhood in the village of Cadboro Bay.

The hosts are gracious and accommodating without being intrusive. Mary gave us a tour and showed us how things worked rather than just handing us keys, and even came by with some homemade wine to celebrate both of our anniversaries.

Although we loved the cottage prospective renters should consider: the comfortable bed is up steep stairs (there is a new half bath upstairs also), kitchen facilities are small and basic, making a complex meal would be difficult, and getting the washing machine to work was like playing Vegas slots, if you kept spinning dials and pushing buttons eventually something would happen. For us these limitations did not detract from sitting in the garden drinking and afternoon glass of wine with hummingbirds visiting the abundant flowers or walking next door to Smuggler's Cove to gaze at Mt Baker in the distance.

Owner's Response: We almost called the cottage Hummingbird Haven and are so glad that you enjoyed them. We now have a new mini washing machine (Maytag) and I will print out some clear and concise directions for guests to follow. Thank you for giving us 5 stars.

Peaceful, bucolic setting with Oceanside seating

  • 5 of 5

Sunrise Garden Cottage charms you the moment you drive up! The grounds include beautiful cottage gardens with two Adirondack chairs beckoning to you to observe the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Olympic Mountains in the distance! There are many more points of ocean scenery awaiting your discovery as you meander around the naturally beautifull neighborhood. The owners are charming and gracious tending to any need for the cottage.

I loved cooking family dinners for our daughter, a resident of Victoria and her her husband. Cozy gas fireplace really adds to the ambiance in the cool mornings and evenings amongst the antique furniture. I felt we were in a cozy English cottage! Flowers from Mary's garden were a special touch along with welcoming goodies in a basket!

Note: must be able to climb stairs, as the gorgeous king size bedroom is in the loft and the bath (claw foot tub) is on the main floor. Must also be completely independent with your own car as no bus is near. Only suitable for two people as there is only one bed.

Although only 15-20 minutes to downtown Victoria, the heritage cottage is near a secluded cove that is a haven for wild ducks, geese, eagles, oyster catchers and herons. A lovely garden of perennials, annuals and shrubs is surrounded by an ancient English Laurel hedge for absolute privacy.
