Sunrise Garden Cottage charms you the moment you drive up! The grounds include beautiful cottage gardens with two Adirondack chairs beckoning to you to observe the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Olympic Mountains in the distance! There are many more points of ocean scenery awaiting your discovery as you meander around the naturally beautifull neighborhood. The owners are charming and gracious tending to any need for the cottage.
I loved cooking family dinners for our daughter, a resident of Victoria and her her husband. Cozy gas fireplace really adds to the ambiance in the cool mornings and evenings amongst the antique furniture. I felt we were in a cozy English cottage! Flowers from Mary's garden were a special touch along with welcoming goodies in a basket!
Note: must be able to climb stairs, as the gorgeous king size bedroom is in the loft and the bath (claw foot tub) is on the main floor. Must also be completely independent with your own car as no bus is near. Only suitable for two people as there is only one bed.
The red door and promise of a perennial garden right outside the windows were the factors that compelled us to rent this property. We were not disappointed. Our 'red door cottage' was a true find. Everything is exactly as outlined in the listing. However, the cozy ambience and warm feeling we had when returning home to our hideaway, from a day of discovery in Victoria or from visits with our grandson cannot be so easily related, except to say, we always felt like we were coming home. We took our morning coffee down to a bench looking out on a lovely cove (about 30 paces from our door) and enjoyed the birds flitting about in the garden on a sunny afternoon. The owner was attentive, helpful, friendly while at the same time, gave us our privacy. Initial inquiries were promptly answered. We consider ourselves lucky to have found this property to rent. There is a wonderful grocery, wine store and restaurants nearby and downtown Victoria is easily accessible by a short car ride.
Although only 15-20 minutes to downtown Victoria, the heritage cottage is near a secluded cove that is a haven for wild ducks, geese, eagles, oyster catchers and herons. A lovely garden of perennials, annuals and shrubs is surrounded by an ancient English Laurel hedge for absolute privacy.
