Enjoy an unforgettable Olympic Peninsula vacation at Blue Bay Retreat, a spectacular property with two fully equipped houses--spacious enough to accommodate ten guests. The three bedroom main home and one bedroom separate guest house combine to give you ample room and privacy. Sprawl out and explore the area's surroundings from this great location just doors from John Wayne Marina where you can rent a boat or bring your own to tie up to the property's private dock.
Situated on three acres of pristine Sequim Bay waterfront, you will discover a property of beautiful gardens and sprawling grounds. Wake early to a panoramic sunrise over Sequim Bay. BBQ your evening dinner and dine at water's edge watching the northern sunset over Mt. Baker and the San Juan Islands in the distance. On days of low tide, bring your buckets and shovels for clam digging on your private beach and tide lands. A multiplicity of recreation possibilities abound: Explore the world-renowned Olympic National Park; hiking and bird watching at Dungeness Spit or enjoy fields of fragrant summer lavender. Whether it's the endless, arctic light of summer or the blustery seascapes of winter, you will always remember your time at this very special home on the northern tip of the Olympic Peninsula.
We live in Seattle and bought this home when we had five kids living at home. We had many years of great fun at the property.
Kathleen W purchased this house in 1998
We took a day trip to Sequim and the Dungeness Spit with our two daughters. It was grey and dreary in Seattle, and we heard Sequim was always sunny, and it was! We checked the area out and on our way out of town, we stopped at an open house, saw the property and fell in love with it. It was May and the large garden was in full bloom, rhododendrons everywhere. It was a compelling site and captured our imagination.
This is a wonderful property, sitting on Sequim Bay with a large dock and access to the tidelands. The property includes the main house, large gardens and a guest house (rented separately or as an add-on) making it ideal for gatherings or family or friends.
Having owned my own VRBO I was disappointed with the house. First of all the house has a huge mouse problem. Our friends found mouse pop in there bed after they striped it. Also had to put all our food in the frig, cooler or microwave because they would eat it otherwise, which happened on our first night. Also we where not informed that they are remodeling the house. The floors in the master bedroom where torn up and caused for a sharp edge in between the bedroom and bathroom, also not safe on bare feet. The other bathroom is only accessible by going through a bedroom, whoever has the third bedroom needs to go through a bedroom to use it. That bathroom was also being remodled. The toilet was not properly bolted down, which made it rock when you sat on it, no outlet covers and Mirror was not hung. The water pressure is 2 clicks above a mister in the shower, don't expect a end of the day revitalizing shower. Otherwise I agree with the other comments as far as the property and surrounding area. We will not be staying here again.
We were actually very surprised that this rental had all 5 star reviews. We expected a beautiful, well kept home, but it just wasn't that. The house is very old and in desperate need of care and remodeling. When we arrived, the house was filthy. The floors and kitchen were very dirty. We called the property manager and they sent a cleaning crew that spent 10 minutes cleaning one room. Then they left to go crabbing and threw their dirty rags in our washing machine. The house also has mice that we heard running around at night and left poop in the laundry room. Now to the positives - the beds are comfortable, the owner is very nice and responsive and the location was to die for. The view is incredible! There is a path down to the beach with a dock. You can watch crabs running around in the water from the dock. You can also walk to the John Wayne Marina which has a great restaurant. The house is also close to downtown Sequim and lots of lavender farms. Overall, it is a decent place but no frills inside the house. I'm not sure that I would stay here again because I feel like the price is too high for the condition of the house.
This was my 6 vacation to this Great Place, There were 9 of us on this last trip, We had a great time, I docked my Boat at the dock, we went Crabbing every day and Limited out . My wife Jerry and 0ur 7 guest, from Hawaii, Alaska, Auburn. And Grand daughter and husband from Germany sat out in the yard and watched the boats come and go whale we were cooking crabs and drinking bloody Mary's, and margaritas. The owner Kathy was there to greet us, She is a Wonderful person. I just made new dates for a week in October. I really do recommend this Beautiful Home. Just not on the days I want it. Ours was a family vacation focusing on exploring nearby Olympic National Park. This house was great for that. The home is spacious, surrounded by private grounds and waterfront property. Everything was as described on the site, and Kathleen was very responsive to our questions. I would definitely recommend it for families, couples, etc. It was easy to cook meals at the house, which was helpful since higher-end dining options in Sequim proper are limited. We did have a great meal at Blondies though.
Blue Bay Retreat was perfect for our recent stay of 3 weeks. The house has everything one might need with a well-equipped kitchen. We loved looking out of the picture windows or being out on the extensive waterfront grounds. The weather was unusually hot in Sequim but it was always very cool at the waterfront of the house. Spectacular views of Sequim Bay to the right and open to The Straits of Juan de Fuca to the left. We observed great blue herons, kingfishers, towhees, white-crowned sparrows, rhinoceros auklets, an eagle, hummingbirds, seals, otters, black-tailed deer strolling the grounds and comical crows. There is a private dock where one could moor a boat or kayak. The marina is a short walk with an excellent restaurant and kayak rental. The house is convenient to the entire peninsula, Port Angeles and the ferry to Vancouver Island is 15 minutes away, Hurricane Ridge a 30 minutes drive, and all the wonderful areas of Olympic National Park available for day trips. Port Townsend is 40 minutes away with restaurants, galleries, boating and Fort Worden. This property is just spectacular for access to activity or for peace and relaxation. We have stayed at many vrbo places, some great and some not so great, this house and location was the best ever!
We 3 older couples stayed for 6 days and had a wonderful time, We limited out on crabs, I docked my 22 foot Grady White boat at the dock, we crabbed for 5 days, The weather was beautiful sonny and worm. Everything in and out of the house was Perfect. Kathy (the owner) Really goes out of her way to make sure our stays are Great, we have been there 3 times and it gets better each time. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone. Except on the Dates I want of course. we sat out at the waters edge hours on end just watching the boats going in and out of the John Wayne marina, watching people crabbing right out in front of us. Its just a wonderful place to relax and have a great time. I try to go twice a year for a week. with different groups of my friends. anyway myself and my friends love this place.
